I have a Safety First Designer Car Seat- Orchard, I was wondering which Travel system would work with it?

Glendabob

I really feel stupid for buying this car seat, I jumped the gun and purchased it because I fell in love with the design, I now wish that I had purchased a full travel system. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a stroller that will allow me to attach the car seat to it. I do not want a frame, I want to purchase something I can use when my baby gets older, too.

Answer
I know you don't want to buy a frame (one you just sit a car seat it, not actual stroller) but take it from me, after they grow out of the infant car seat, you really aren't going to want to use a huge travel system stroller anyway. Just buy a cheap frame type thing or even a sling for now. Then later when your child is around 5 months old use a lightweight stroller. Chicco make a $50 or $60 lightweight stroller that is really nice. I have a Maclaren that is lightweight and i never use my big bulky stroller. In fact, my daughter is 21 months and i'm thinking about selling it at our garage sale next week. Invest in a really good lightweight stroller instead, you'll be happy you did later!

what baby gifts should she register for?

My friend is having her first baby, and she doesn't know what to register for for her baby shower. What sort of things should she buy/register for that will help her the most when she has her newborn? (practical stuff only... in other words, not engraved rattles or anything like that) Advice from mothers would be very appreciated! Thanks
Just to clarify... I'm not looking for WHERE to register, but WHAT THINGS to register for. Thanks.

LOVE BEING

My husband and I are planning which items we're going to buy for our baby and I'm wondering about a stroller that I've found... the Orbit Baby travel system...http://shoporbitbaby.com/category/modes/â¦
I'm only 5feet 1 inch tall and I'm very petite so I want something light weight and easy to handle.
Is it light weight? Is it worth the price? Did you like it, love it, or hate it?
If not this one which one would you recommend?

Additional Details
Price isn't a problem...
And we also plan to have more children so we can use the stroller again and again.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Orbit-Baby-Infant-System-Mocha-Travel-System-Stroller_W0QQitemZ280484861489QQcmdZViewItemQQptZStrollers?hash=item414e335631
No, by more than one child I meant we want one at a time! There's no way I can naturally plan to have two at a time.

Answer
I'd just use a sling personally. I got the big stroller system with my first, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've used it, even now with a 19 month old and almost-4 month old twins. Big strollers are more hassle than they're worth. At most, a lightweight jogging stroller is all you need. Slings or baby carriers are easier, more comfortable for a baby, less gear to lug around and much more friendly for a petite woman.

Need a stroller / car seat combination for toddler....?

carabids

...The only one I know is Orbit Toddler Car Seat. Any others???
I'm basically looking for a stroller than handles well, and folds up conveniently to go in car trunk, that can connect to a real car seat for toddlers / young children. The Orbit seems to do this, but I am wondering if there are other examples out there. My sister has used the sit 'n' stroll but says the quality was terrible and it isn't much good as a stroller.

Answer
Kolcraft Universal Car Seat Carrier (*est. $50)

Stroller frame.

Reviews say many traditional "travel systems", otherwise known as car-seat stroller combinations, are too bulky and expensive, and that cheaper travel systems often have quality issues. The Kolcraft Universal stroller frame solves both problems. This model isn't a complete travel system. Rather, it's a metal frame with stroller wheels that will accommodate most brands of infant car seats. This is a great temporary choice for parents who plan to purchase a higher-quality stroller when the baby outgrows his infant car seat. The Kolcraft frame weighs about 13.5 pounds.

Graco SnugRider (*est. $60)

Stroller frame with adjustable handle.

The Graco SnugRider is a stroller frame, meant to accommodate a separately purchased Graco infant car seat. The only big difference between the SnugRider and other stroller frames is that the Graco has an adjustable-height handle, a nice option for parents of differing heights. The Graco stroller frame is guaranteed to fit Graco car seats (though some parents say other brands also fit). If you plan to buy a top-rated Graco SnugRide infant seat, the SnugRider frame is the way to go. If you have another brand of car seat, the Kolcraft stroller frame is the better bet.

Graco Spree 511 (*est. $160)

Full car-seat / stroller travel system.

A stroller frame like the Kolcraft Universal Car Seat Carrier, is a better choice than a full travel system, say reviews. Thatâs because many parents eventually purchase a lighter, less bulky stroller anyway. However, if you like the coordinated look of travel systems or just want one anyway, the Graco Spree pairs the top-rated Graco SnugRide infant seat with a matching lightweight stroller. Reviewers like that it folds vertically, so that the wheels never touch the handles or upholstery, and at 20 pounds, it is fairly easy to lift into the car trunk. The Spree comes with a pivoting snack tray, windowed canopy, and parent organizer tray with two drink holders.

Best Infant Car Seat/Travel System?

best baby travel systems 2011 image
Q. Hi,we are expecting our first child and need help on infant car seats. We are either going to get a full travel system or a bugaboo cameleon stroller and just an infant car seat. So if you could please suggest infant car seats and/or travel systems that would be great! Thanks so much!

Answer
I got the Chicco Keyfit 30 Travel System for my son. It's a little pricey, but it was rated the safest car seat of 2011 by Consumer Reports. I haven't had any problems with it and I felt so relieved as a new mom as well to know my baby was in the safest car seat for the year. Definitely look into it and see if you guys would like it. Good luck with your search!! And congrats on the baby. :)

A good tandem travel system?

Baby G

I'm looking for a good tandem (double) travel system stroller....one that i can snap a car seat onto it but can also b used when the child is able to sit up...like a regular stroller...the brand doesn't matter...right now i'm using an eddie bauer system and will need to upgrade come july 2011

Answer
What exactly are you looking for? Something for twins or something for an older child and a newborn?

Add: Judging from your other questions, I'm assuming you are pregnant and have your 3 month old.

Honestly? It's unhealthy to put a baby in a baby carrier in a car seat because they should only be in the car seat as little as possible. It sits them at an angle that isn't good for breathing as well as curves them so that their digestion isn't as good. So until the newborn is 4months old or so, you really don't need to worry about a replacement.

For me, I decided to use a baby chest carrier (the Ergo) for the newborn and the stroller for my 2 year old. This is SO much easier (and safer) than when I used a baby seat in the stroller for my first. It also gives you more time and more options as far as double-strollers go. You can look at a doublestroller that doesn't lay completely flat instead of having to find one that lays flat.

However if you really want a double-stroller or need it because of your back or what have you, then the Chicco Together is one of the best I've seen. It has a fully reclining back seat and is the one I'd get if I was to get one.

Which would you suggest?

Answer
Across almost all review sites, including Consumer Reports, people say the Chicco Keyfit is the best infant car seat.

Here is one baby review site that has some good reviews of the Keyfit: http://www.viewpoints.com/Chicco-KeyFit-reviews

Has anyone tried both the Maxi Cosi and the Chicco Keyfit carseat/travel system?

Determined

Answer
I have tried both and I must say that the Chicco won me over. I found that it was the only carseat that was the easiest to use. When you have kids and you take them in and out of the car, you ususally have other things in your hands (purse, keys, drink, diaperbag) It can be very frusterating when you are trying to unlatch the carseat and you keep having to jiggle and fight with it to get it out. The chicco with the keyfit snaps in and out instantly with no effort. NO jiggling necessary! This is a HUGE bonus when your baby is asleep and you want to keep them this way. It also holds your baby up to 30 lbs and has one of the highest safety ratings! The maxi was ok, but i was more comfortable with the chicco because I KNEW the baby was going to be safe, no second guessing! Hope this helps!

Traveling by plane with car seat and stroller, any experiences?

baby travel systems amazon on Amazon.com: Graco Stylus Classic Connect LX Travel System, Winslet ...
baby travel systems amazon image

Ivan

Delta said we could check both at the gate (it's a travel system, the car seat sits on top of the stroller) but I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this; such as, is it a good idea to bring your own garbage bags to stuff it in so it doesn't get dirty or do they provide that? plus any other tips you can offer.
Thanks!

Answer
As a former Flight Attendant, I urge you to try to use your car seat onboard if possible. It is the only way to fly safely with the baby. It also guarentees that your carseat will not get lost or damaged in the hold.

First, check that your seat is FAA approved;
http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/
Most car seats in the U.S. are.

When you check-in, ask if you can get an empty seat to strap your carseat into. They usually heed this request since flying with babies can be tricky for everyone. We always made an effort to get families extras seats, car seat or not.

They do sell special bags for putting car seats in. I saw a bunch on Amazon or try specific baby supply sites like Albee, etc. I have used the big plastic bags that airlines have supplied. Another option is to use a duffle bag. I bought mine at a camping supply store. These are super sturdy and fold down nicely.

Just as a word of warning, if you do get to use the car seat onboard, be sure that he's strapped in for take-off and landing. There is no reason to remove a child from a car seat during these times. It's a myth that they need to suck during take-off and landing. It's a good idea at any time during ascent (after take-off, while reaching altitude) and the most critical point is at the top of descent. This is when passengers complained. Landing (when the plane touches down) is too late.

To really prevent ear problems, see the doctor before leaving. One of mine was very good at getting symptomless ear infections. Healthy ears can handle pressurization changes. I never do anything special on take-off and landing and none of them, including one with the "history", never had any problems. I rarely saw them in my 13 years in the air either.

Before handing the stroller over at the gate, remove all "extras", i.e. cup holders, toys, even the sunshade depending on the model (I put mine in the checked suitcase). Attach the straps. Bring a bungee cord and after folding it, double secure it so that it doesn't pop open en route and get damaged.

I've been flying with my three children since the oldest was 4 months old. I fly alone with my three (closely spaced) children between Europe and California about twice a year (am I insane?). We also do short hops in between including experiencing the joys of cut cost carriers.

When I saw some of the misinformation on the web on the subject of flying with children, I put an article I wrote a few years ago on a blog to share with others. Many parents have contributed as well. None have reported problems with strollers or car seats and I never saw any with work either.

I spent many hours going through safety and security training over a 10 year period with two companies before I had my first baby. For more information from someone who actually worked in the industry as well as flown many times with my own children, feel free to visit;
http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com

Good luck getting the extra seat and have a great flight!

What kind of stroller do/did you have and do you like it?

~KGB~ Kait

I am getting new car and my travel system's stroller hardly fits in the trunk of my new car. I like to keep a stroller in my trunk, so the travel system will not work. I have a cheapo umbrella stroller that I do not like. I want a good travel system replacement.

Answer
Since your baby is almost 6 months, I would just get a convertible seat and buy a high quality umbrella stroller. I have the Chicco Liteway. http://www.amazon.com/Chicco-60886480070-Liteway-Stroller-Coventry/dp/B001OD53QI/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i

It is the best stroller for many reasons. The only downfall is that it is 19 lbs. but it's not like you have to lift your baby in it or anything. Many of my friends have the MacClaren or the Peg Perego and we all agree that this is the best. The single front wheels make it so easy to turn in tight spaces with just one hand. The back reclines ALL the way flat for naps (it becomes like a travel bed) It is very high quality, folds up super small, nice colors, trendy looking.

Mama <3

I am selling my Baby Trend Gabriella travel system. This thing was expensive! We bought it new and its in great condition but it is used. So we paid nearly $400 for the set! I was thinking $75? It this reasonable?

Thanks!
I must add its in perfect condition. I washed the pads and wiped it down. There isnt a mark or stain on it!

Answer
When selling my no longer wanted, used items. I tend to divide the new retail price in half, and then move it up or down according to condition.

$75 is a steal, but you don't want to go too much higher, as those looking for used, will buy a cheaper system brand new, rather than pay more for a pricier used model.

I'd probably list it around $125, as it's worth more than $75, but I'm just not certain you could get the full $200 for it, when you can buy a cheaper set up, brand new for under $200.

For how many years is a typical baby travel system safe?

Erika B

We have an almost 4 yr old and are due with our second child in 5 months. We have everything we need, but a friend warned me against using our carseat and stroller again, becuase it may be out of safety regulation being almost 4 yrs old. It's a Chicco KeyFit 30, and had great safety ratings when we purchased it. Any one know typically how many years a travel system is good for?

Answer
Most car seat brands are 6 years from the date of manufacture. The KeyFit 30 is still considered to be a great seat. Flip it over and look for a "do not use after" date stamped into the shell. Once you're sure it's not expired, use the model number off the seat to search for a recall- for any seat. For the KeyFit, Chicco has only had one recall since 2001 and I don't think your seat was produced between the dates for the recall, here it is http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/childseat.cfm#mfg_anchor

are there any specific features that make a travel system good?

Raina

i bought a graco travel system today off of craigslist for $60! and it really is in good shape. it included the car seat and the base and a cover and a stroller and it's cover. the stroller has 4 different levels being that the floor lays flat for baby to sleep, then 2 different inclines and a 90 degree sitting position.
but what other features should be looked for regarding safety, function and convenience?

Answer
You got a great deal!! I've looked on Ebay and Craigslist to see what deals I could get, and let me tell you...nothing like what you got! Its great that it has those different positions, i haven't seen many if any that are like that. Basically as long as the car seat has good crash safety ratings and the stroller feels sturdy im sure it will be great! Also cup holders come in handy and a place to put your diaper bag underneath the stroller.

What are the best baby bottles and the best car seat for a new born?

S.B

I am due in november and I want to know what is the best CONVERTIBLE car seat for babies and what are the best bottles to use. I plan to breast feed but just in case if it does not work i will put him on formula. Thanks for the help.

Answer
I had the Graco Quattro Tour travel system and loved it. The stroller was great and the infant carrier carseat was really good too. The stroller was easy to fold, easy to lift and put into the car. The storage basket was great becuase it went down so that you can reach items in it while the baby was in the stroller. FYI - if the baby is in the carseat, and the carseat is in the stroller, you will not be able to access the storage basket unless it comes down. I LOVED this feature of the stroller. The carseat has a base, it uses latch if you have a newer car. It also is able to be used without the base, with a seatbelt alone. Most are this way. You will require an infant carrier carseat for the first few months before you can use a convertibe carseat.

As far as the convertible carseat goes, I LOVE the Britax Marathon. I got it when my older son outgrew the infant carrier. He used it until he was 2 1/2 (when my 2nd son outgrew his infant carrier) and my youngest got the Britax Marathon and I purchased a Britax Regent for the older one. We love the seat because of their safety rating and the kids love them because they are comfortable. They are a bit wider then most carseats, and they do cost more, but when it comes to the saftely of your children... is it worth spending a little more? I thought so.

As far as the bottles go... I LOVED the playtex bottles with the drop in liners (not the bags). This made preparing the bottle and cleaning them soooo much easier. Doesn't seem like a big deal now, but when your'e washing bottle after bottle, it helps. Just stock up on a bunch of nipples - and you're golden ;) I breast feed and used formula. I had NO problems with either child switching between the two. Could be that the nipple is more like the real thing. I don't know. They also had less gas because you push all the air out of the bottle by pressing on the liner. Pretty innovative if you ask me. But the important thing to remember is the nipple. It has to be as close to yours as possible. And make sure you make the baby latch ontothe bottle just as he/she would latch onto you. This makes going back and forth effortless.

Anyway, I found that they carry all of these items on Amazon. You can even shop around with Amazon with a bunch of their affiliated merchants. I like that because it saves me time price comparison shopping. Anyway, I also found this link for a giftcard for Amazon... Any little bit helps - childrens' items cost so much these days.

Hope this helps, sorry it's so long ;)

any recomends on what type of carseats swings playpens strollers?

baby travel systems on clearance on Graco Quattro Tour Sport Travel System - Buy from Online4Baby.
baby travel systems on clearance image
Q. I am 37 weeks pregnant and need to know before the baby comes thanks please IM me

Answer
I would NOT recommend any evenflo carseats, although their strollers are fine. We have the evenflo aura elite, and have had it replaced twice....We like the stroller that came with the travel system though.

I WOULD recommend the graco pack N play for a playpen...it has a bassinet insert. We used it until our baby was 15 pounds...before we bothered buying a crib. It was the perfect size, played music, vibrated, and had a changing table insert as well. Ours had been $150, but we got it on clearance at toysrus for $40! Best deal of the entire pregnancy.

We have the fisher price swing with the "sea" motif. Very popular. I personally don't like swings. After having a cesarean, it is difficult to bend over, holding the baby, to situate her in the swing seat.

You really need a bouncer seat. Just pick one that has several reclining positions (at least 2, so the baby can sit up if he has acid reflux), make sure it can vibrate, and make sure it plays soothing nature sounds and music. Don't buy one that bounces out of control every time the baby moves, and make sure you choose one that is very lightweight....you'll be carrying it from room to room, so you don't want anything heavy.

Bottles? Use Dr. Browns.
Diapers? Pampers baby dry.
Formula? Parents' Choice (at walmart) generic imitation of Similac advance milk-based with iron (Only $11 per large can, as opposed to $26 per large can of similac!)

Pricing baby items for a yardsale?

Amber

My family is having a yardsale next month and I am going to unload some of the things my daughter has outgrown. How do you price things? I know I am unloading some clothes, a bouncer, a couple playmats (she just crawls right off them now). I am also thinking we might get rid of the carseat and matching stroller (replaced by a convertable and lightweight stroller).

What are the guidelines for good condition items?

Answer
You have to consider brands, what kind of area you are selling in, and how badly you want stuff to sell. I can go to Target, Walmart, JcPenney, Kohls, etc, right this minute and get brand new baby and toddler size tshirts, shorts, and skirts for under $4 each. At the end of the season winter clearance I got my daughter's brand new fall wardrobe for around $1.50 a piece. Used is used, people are very unlikely to pay more than a dollar for most baby clothes unless its some name brand in perfect condition. If you want it gone, price to sell.

Playmats really shouldn't cost much of anything. $2 at most if you want them gone. Used car seats are used and most parents fear them. Saving a buck means nothing if the carseat could have possibly been in a crash. I would price your travel system low, maybe $30 at most, if you want it gone.

A garage sale is mostly a way to get rid of stuff, not make big money. Not everyone will try to talk you down. Lots of people will roll their eyes at high prices and walk away.

I'm looking for travel system vs. stroller frame/car seat option.
What makes more sense?
Would you buy another travel system?

Answer
I would buy a travel system all over again. I liked it. But with baby #2 I'm not buying one because I still have my daughters so I'll just buy a double side to side stroller.

Jogging stroller versus travel system â pros and cons, & what about hiking?

Woodland H

Iâm thinking of getting a jogging stroller to use on our local hiking trails here. Has anyone ever hiked on trails using a jogging stroller? Or is it just meant for dirt roads & that type of terrain? What is it like hiking? Oh also, do jogging strollers come w/ the infant car seat? Does the basket underneath have ample storage compared to a travel system stroller?

What else are the pros & cons of jogger vs travel system? TIA!

Answer
Our Jogging Stroller turns by lifting the front wheel, which is a hassle to use for strolling around town, so we've got a variety of different types of strollers. I've used the jogging stroller on trails and mostly mulit-use paths (paved and dirts paths for biking and walking), never used it for hiking back country and while it's easier to push, I would think it would be unstable for hiking purposes (if the trails are bumpy and have obstacles).

The jogging stroller really isn't great for babies that aren't sitting up yet, it doesn't come with a special infant seat and we much preferred a standard stroller when our little guy was an infant (he could recline and sleep, plus the shade bonnet was bigger to protect him from the sun.

We opted not to get a Travel System, and it's worked out great. We've never had a problem with getting the baby in and out of the carseat to the stroller, and it's less gear to carry around. Car seats are in the cars permanently and we only used our infant seat carseat in shopping carts for a few months.

All in all, the jogging stroller is not getting used much at all, I prefer using the Kolcraft Contours stroller for our little guy. I suggest you visit some stores and see the different types personally, then shop on line to maybe save some money.

Hope this helps!
Best Wishes!

preferably one that fits a newborn, light and durable, would like ipod compatibility, budget friendly and easy to steer.

Answer
I've found that the Baby Trend Expedition fits all your requirements. Some of these strollers even come with a matching car seat. These are VERY popular in my neighborhood and they are getting consistently good reviews.

The Expedition ELX has an mp3 hookup and for the travel system, it costs well under $400. If that makes you sick to your stomach, you can get a plainer Expedition travel system for just over $200. My review below will point you to where to get the deals.

Hope this helps! It's a great stroller!
