What is the best stroller?

volata_bio

I am going to be a first time mom and I need help finding a good stroller!! :)

What I am looking for:

Light weight as possible (I live on the 3rd floor)
Easy to move around corners
Has a sun shield
And most important.....
Is a stroller that has a removable car seat so I can use it for when my little girl is a newborn, infant, and toddler. I just don't want to have to go and buy a new one with each stage :)

thank you!!!!!!!

Answer
Strollers that lay flat are safe for a newborn, strollers that use a car seat actually are less than ideal because the car seat scrunches their back, tilts them forward more and can cause breathing problems as well as possible back issues. The SIDS studies still recommend laying a baby flat to sleep, not leaving them in a car seat. Also, hauling the car seat in and out of the car is heavy. It makes your 7-10 lb baby into a 27-30lb baby... which is as heavy as my 4 year old daughter and 20 month son, both of whom would be able to walk up the stairs. Basically, by the time they weighed as much as that car seat + baby they would be able to walk themselves instead of having to have me carry them up. If you want lightweight and easy to move, then you have got to dump the idea of using a baby car seat as anything but a car seat.

With my daughter I used a Graco travel system and it was miserable until I got a baby chest carrier (cheap one) and I used that a lot after she was 6 months old, so with my son I got an Ergo baby carrier and skipped the whole stroller situation. Besides, I liked the single stroller I had for my daughter (baby trend jogger, they're not that heavy, easy to push, and for going up stairs the big wheels make it easy to turn them around and just haul them up, but not while the baby is in it because of safety issues.) The Ergo was lightweight, easy to put on, easy to wear, didn't bother my back, and my son really loved it. The Ergo weighs something like 1lb if that, they do have sunshields (really) and are far easier to move around corners than any stroller on the market.

After a baby can sit up (about 4-6 months) you can get any stroller out there without worrying whether it lays flat or not. So you can find an ultralight one. Also you can go on craigslist and find one that someone is getting rid of fairly easily. Link one weighs 14lbs for instance, link 2 weighs 11lbs, link 3 is 8.8lbs!, but you wouldn't be able to put a baby in it until they were able to sit up (6 months easily). Then you'd be able to use it until your child was 50lbs (which typically is 5+.) So by putting off buying a stroller at all for 6 months and using a baby-chest carrier instead for the newborn stage, you basically would be able to get a very light stroller that would last the rest of the infant-toddler-preschooler years.

But to point it out, even now if I'm going in a store where a stroller would be hard to handle in and out or too bulky, I put my son in the Ergo and he happily rides on me while I look at the books and such. He's nearly 2. Most babies don't outgrow the Ergo until 1 years old at the earliest. And your hands would be free to hold onto the handrails walking up the stairs rather than trying to balance a stroller and carrying a car seat to boot up the stairs. Far safer.

Twins......stroller help?

Q. I am looking for a double stroller travel system for twins. Do they make the double stroller that fits both car seat carriers at the same time? I have been looking every where for one that does that and all I can find is the kind the only fits in front not back.

Does anyone know if the car seat on a double stroller fits in the front and back?

I hope I explained correctly.

Chicco Side by Side Twin Stroller or Graco?

Toni L

I am going to purchase a stroller for my Sister in law who is having twins. I personally use the travel system by Chicco, came with the stroller, car seat ect...but she is having twins and told me she wants an umbrella stroller since her husband is military and they travel alot, plus her car is a Nissan Versa with a small trunk...so umbrella twin stroller it is! Now I do like the chicco stroller as it can be used from 0-24 months with the seat reclining, but the graco does the same thing....I have never used graco, but it seems good too. Also, I am going to purchase her a baby trend double travel frame for her twin car seats (a surprise she doesn't know yet) so do you think that chicco car seats would fit the frame? I have a chicco car seat so maybe I should just take it over to babysrus, but if anybody has the travel frames by baby trend please give me a heads up if it will fit the chicco seat as well. Thanks for your help!

Answer

Car seat questions: Which company is better?

My wife is about a week from her due date with out little girl. We need to get a car seat now but we're torn between these because they all have good ratings so we're wondering which you think is best(coming from people who own/have owned any)? My wife's car is a 4 door 2006 Pontiac G6 and she wants the travel system so that she doesn't have to worry about getting our daughter out of her car seat all the time since she'll be taking her with her more than I will while she's very young. These are the two we think would be pretty good but we're not sure which one is better over the other. What do you think? And if they both measure out to about the same, which color would you pick for a girl? (With the second link be sure to scroll down to the Baby Trend Stride Sport Travel System - Cherry Chocolate)

With my truck I don't have to worry about a car seat not fitting in the back. Since I don't have to, I'm just going to go ahead and get a convertible seat so I don't have to worry about getting another seat for a while. These the first seat my friend with 3 kids recommended since she uses them. The second my brother in law suggested but he hasn't used his yet(baby hasn't been released from the hospital yet). Which do you think would be the safer and better buy? If the same, which would you pick for a girl?

I get the whole "don't leave baby in car seat too long" and all that which is another reason why I'm just going to get the covert. seat. It's what my wife wants and it's a choice that's left up to between her and I. Recommendations are just that though, recommendations. If you're a parent the choice of how you move your baby around,in infant carrier or taking them out when you go into a store or to the doctors,is up to you.

Baby Trend or Graco; which is better brand for carseat and other baby gear?

baby trend travel systems girls on Signature Series by Graco Trekko 3 Wheel Travel System Stroller with
baby trend travel systems girls image

Iowagirl21

Going to be starting the baby registry and going to be getting some of the baby gear that we need for our little girl that will be here before we know it and we are trying to decide between baby trend and graco. Please help us choose which is better and also give us some possible suggestions on patterns also. We could really use the help.

Answer
My Baby Trend gear has outlasted every Graco thing we've bought, except the Graco 35. However, the Baby Trend infant seat (as highly tested as it is) has a really annoying buckle system, or used to, so I don't like that. But everything else, I'd go with Baby Trend first.

I'm not brand loyal though. Do research. If you see that there's a Graco thing that is getting high scores from folks and is doing very well according to actual usage, go with that. Or with Baby Bundle from Blah brand. Don't limit yourself. Don't get travel systems, they are often very limiting. But it's like if your dream stroller is by Chicco, and your car seat is by Evenflo, and your bassinet is by something else... well shoot. That's fine. There's no reason to limit to a brand. I do recommend though if you get a playpen, look at the washable ones and make sure they conform to the higher level safety requirements put out this year.

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?
I live in northern Indiana. I can order online (for stores that offer online purchases)

Answer
Things to consider. Why? I mean, except for transporting your baby in the car, a car seat should not be used for things like riding in the stroller, or on shopping carts, or things like that. It comes from the studies done in the last year or so that shows that a baby left to sleep or sit in an inclined position for too long can get into an oxygen lowered state. Ie, it's not good for them to be in an inclined position like a car seat for longer than 2 hours full in a day, until they're older than about 6 months old.

Now, since recalls done on strollers are far less than recalls done on car seats, you can get the stroller from someone selling second-hand (just doublecheck recall lists) and get a better car seat. The Chicco brand stroller, for instance, lays flat, making it usable from newborn on up. :) On Ebay, I can see a few for under $100 (make sure they say fully reclining.) I'm sure you could find some at Craigslist as well. :) Otherwise, you could consider using a baby chest carrier for the first few months until your baby is old enough (3-6 months) to sit at a slight incline, then you can get a stroller that nearly reclines all the way.

If you do that, my favorite travel system is the Baby Trend, at least to recommend to people. It's under $200, the car seat is one of the top safety rated (though the buckles are a pain in the neck I'll warn you now), and the stroller is a jogger that you can use as a stroller. I LOVE ours. They recline far enough back for about 2+months, so I wouldn't put a newborn in it, but if you can last the 2 months then it lasts to 40lbs. Only negative is that the basket is only rated to carry 5lbs, so you can't bring a huge diaper bag with you (or if you do you have to carry it.)

Shoot though. If you're dead set on a travel system, you can always find someone selling the stroller that goes with a travel system, buy that for a cheaper price, and then use the rest of the money to get the car seat, and get it cheaper that way. But I'm not a fan of travel systems. To me it seems like it ropes folks into thinking a baby should sleep in the car seat and it's just not safe.

Sobbing Ra

I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant and I want to be able to work from home when my baby comes.

A couple of suggestions that I've had are:
Medical Transcriptionist, Start my own eBay business, Start a Business making appointments for people around the country, and working for 1-800 Contacts.

Tell me what you think of these ideas, and please add if you've got other ideas, too!

Please don't say anything like "You're too young to have a baby" or anything rude. All I want are ideas on jobs.

Thank you!

What do you think of this travel system?

do you think its more for a boy than for a girl? or can it be for both? i dont think you could beat that price!

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8342690&findingMethod=rr

Answer
It could be for both.

The price is great but the brand(in my opinion) is NOT. We got a Baby Trend travel system for our son. It was rated fairly well at the time but I guess because it was still "new" at that time. The handle on the car seat was hell to get down, half the time I couldn't do it myself so my husband had to. Also the wheels on the stroller are pretty wobbly now and 1) our son is only 10 and a half months old and 2) we rarely use it.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, obviously if you really want it you're still going to get it. I just thought I'd give you a "review" of what I thought of ours. We'll be getting a new travel system when we have another baby and that should be within the next 6-10 months.
