Answer
I have a Graco Alano (third one) and I love it! The stroller is super easy to fold up:) The pink is so cute too! It is a little tough to keep clean (Oxy Clean makes it look like new again) I got mine on clearance at Target. The travel system was marked down to $80! So, if it's coming out of your pocket check there just in case:) If not, who cares lol! Good luck to you and happy baby shopping! It's so fun isn't it?

Im having a baby girl..Opinions on this travel system!!?

What Light Weight Stroller System do you Recommend??

MommatoONE

I'm starting to look into stroller combos for an infant, and would like to purchase one in future once I have another baby next year. I've been browsing online, but I'm not sure which ones are good and lightweight. I don't have a huge, heavy bulky stroller. I had one of those for my 1st, and i hated it. Any advice would be great, thanks :)

Answer
Most travel systems that have a carseat/stroller combo are pretty horrible to travel with. I mean, I know they are travel systems, but that just means that you can take the car seat out of the car and clip it on the stroller and go. I would suggest looking for a stroller that folds up smaller than most travel system strollers do, and not worry about a travel system.

I've heard really good things about bug a boo strollers, blut they are very expensive. http://bugaboo.com
Depending on what you are wanting a stroller for you may be able to get away with an umbrella stroller with a small cargo area underneath.

Another option, if you don't use a stroller often, could be to get a wrap or a sling. Super portable, super light weight, and no bulk like a stroller! Okay, that isn't what you're asking, but they may be good for you. Good luck!

Please help! Which travel system you thing is better?

Answer
Don't get a Safety 1st travel system at all. They're not rated well, they're not as safe as others on the market. You get what you pay for. The car seats do not crash test as well as other brands do. You can't put a price on safety. If something should happen to your child in a car accident, you don't want to be thinking, if only I'd have bought a better car seat. Get a Graco car seat. Strollers don't matter--go ahead and get the Safety 1st stroller, but don't get a Safety 1st car seat.

Other brands in the same group include Cosco Juvenile, Maxi-Cosi, Eddie Bauer, and Quinny. The are notorious for product recalls, and cheap parts.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-carseats-special,0,7744829.story

EDIT: Well, Graco isn't the best name, either. Safety 1st is the cheapest brand on the market. They're notorious for crappy products that do not test well. Period. Graco is a middle of the road brand that is the most affordable to the most people which is why it is the most popular. If you truly want what's safest for your child, you'll get a Chicco car seat or a Peg Perego car seat. These offer side impact protection in an accident. Plastic with cute fabric stretched over it (Safety 1st or Graco) do not. I don't really know why you're wasting so much time researching stroller safety (since there are not any studies out there on it). You need to buy the safest car seat for your baby and worry about the stroller second. The car seat's what going to save your baby, not the stroller. If you want the best stroller out there, you're going to get an Uppa Baby or a Bugaboo, neither of which is probably in your price range if you're looking at Safety 1st travel systems. Most strollers can be turned into travel systems in this day and age with an adapter bar. The only exception is umbrella strollers.

Baby Trend Expedition LE Jogger? (travel system)?

amber17sw

I just registered for this stroller at babies r us. Just wondering who's used it, and what they thought?
Is there a better jogger travel system out there?

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2571210

Answer
I haven't seen that before. Wish they made it when I had mine.
The jog stroller is great, but takes up a whole lotta room in the trunk, even folded. And if you are the sort to use your stroller in the grocery rather than a cart the jog stroller can be pretty big.

But it looks like a good idea. And having an 'offroad' stroller is great. Beaches, parks, even out in the yard.

I can't choose which travel system to get for baby, help Im going mad!!!!!!?

its between

both good travel systems. & i love the way they look and the reviews are good. of course not EVERYONE will love it but the majority did. I love the first one. well the look of it better. but the other is just idk I love it too.

Answer
Get the Baby Trend stroller, but not the car seat. The car seats are a pain in the neck to buckle (you have to hold the buckle parts together while you push them in, at the same time, which can be very difficult and annoying.) The stroller though is easy to push, quiet, and works very well for 2 months up. I wish mine had the speakers. :P We bought a speaker for $20 though, and that works well. The large wheels make it easier to push in sand, dirt, grass, up curbs, over cracks, etc. So I definitely love that stroller.

As for Safety First, I'm not a fan after we had one and it started giving problems after a short period of time (car seat I mean.) The stroller also looks like a basic one, and they tend to give handling problems. I'd have to go to Babies R Us and try the stroller to see how far back it lays. It says it has a multi-position recline, but it doesn't say at what age you can use the stroller. From what I'm reading, they expect you to use the car seat in the stroller to use it from newborn on... which is dangerous. You don't want to use car seats in strollers do to breathing problems.

I'm not a fan of being roped into a travel system. You can usually find the car seat and stroller of your dreams if you don't try to buy them together. Baby Trend jogging strollers are wonderful, but I don't like their car seats. The Chicco strollers lay completely flat, making them perfect for newborns up (and you can usually find them on craigslist or used for cheaper) but I don't particularly like them because the wheels aren't those large wheels that work so well for obstacles. Car seats, I like the Chicco, Graco Snugride 35, Britax... the Safety First one might be okay but like I said I ran into problems with their brand in the past.

Add: For the record, the Baby Trend is classified as a jogger, but the instructions say to use it mostly as an 'all terrain', and not just a jogger. I've never jogged with mine. You don't have to jog to use a jogger, they're made for more than that.

Baby Brands...............?

MrsMurray<

Hey girls!

I am starting to slowly build my little princess room =)
And i just want to you to tell me from either recommendation or personal experience the best brands for babies as far as car seats and buggies go!
websites are best as my family is a bit spread out,and i live in a lil town were they have nothing due to my husbands job! lol
Any advice appreciated!

Thaaanks!

Answer
One of the safest carseat & stroller sets is the Grace Quattro Travel systems. The infant carseat can now hold 32lbs. instead of only 22lbs. I totally recommoned this travel system. I have one in the DECO print and I love it! My son is 13 months old and can still fit in the carseat. The stroller is more on the big & heavy side, but its super comfortable for my son and it rides and steers great. They sell them at Walmart, target, & babiesrus.com

Is Baby Trend a good name brand for a travel system, if you have a B.T. please answer!?

Q. Well I have been looking for this Travel System for a while, but only online. I would like to see it in person before purchasing it though. But I was wondering is Baby Trend a good name brand? I have'nt really heard of them. Just wondering. Here is the travel system I really am in love with. It has all the feature I want and need, very spacious, very affordable, and great design.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8342690

Is this a good choice? Anyone have this travel system or any Baby Trend travel system? Thanks

Answer
I don't have a Baby Trend travel system, but I do have a Baby Trend carseat. And it's great. They make good, sturdy products that will last through just about anything. Mostly I've found them at Babies'R'Us so that might be why you haven't really heard of them. Head over there and you'll probably be able to see a couple of their travel systems up close and personal. It's always better to see them in person so you have a good idea of what you're buying.

Would you recommend the Chicco Cortina Travel System (stroller/car seat)?

Linds

Why or why not? Thank you!

Answer
i bought the keyfit 30 infant seat and the chicco trevi. i wanted a lightweight stroller because we travel a lot and didnt want a big bulky stroller. the cortina is a fullsize stroller that has nice features but the trevi works better for us. i love the keyfit 30. it only fits in shopping carts at one store so i started to sling the baby when i go grocery shopping. it is easier than having a bunch of people oohing and ahhing over my baby while i try to grocery shop anyway. ive had a graco travel system before and i liked it but that was 10 years ago. the chicco is really nice and i loved the extreme pattern. i also have the chicco play yard. what ive learned in baby products is you get what you pay for. the chicco line is top rated.

Best infant car seat brand/travel system?

I'm thinking graco and already have graco travel system but just wondering if I made the wrong choice this is my 1st child and have no experience with car seats. Should I get a convertible?

Answer
The Gracy Snugride 35 actually was rated one of the best infant seats on the market. The Snugride that goes from 20-22lbs actually are fine as well. The problem tends to be that babies outgrow them before 2 years old, and the tests say that a baby should rear-face to 2-4 years old (4 years old according to most of the research.) Now if your car seats are already in use, then I'd say just keep using them. They're safe, but you'll probably have to buy a new one in 6-8 months. A convertible gives you the ability of using the seat hopefully for the next 6 years and keeping them rear-facing longer (also after 6 months, when the baby is sitting up, they're more comfortable.)

I don't like travel systems as much because the strollers packaged with them tend to be heavy and hard to push. Plus, SIDS recommendations are that your baby sleeps on a flat surface not at a tilt. Car seats basically are the best place for a baby in the car, but when you take them out of the car you shouldn't keep them in a car seat. So a stroller that lays flat, or a chest carrier/sling you can use is safer for the baby to be in. And remember that an infant seat cannot sit on a shopping cart. Shopping carts (and car seats) are NOT made for that. Also, when you take an infant seat out it increases the weight of your baby by whatever the seat weighs, 20lbs sometimes, and it can really hurt your back hauling a bucket around like that. After your baby is 4-6 months old you can get a stroller that sits them up more safely (they're sitting up on their own more by that point) and are much easier to push.

If you have the money, I prefer the Britax-70 line. They rear-face to 40 and forward face to 70lbs, and I like the fact that Britax will replace your seat if there's an accident, but also that they guarantee it's safety in a small accident (most other seats require you to replace after a small accident as much as a large accident. Since Britax tests at higher impacts, they can guarantee it's safety after a short accident.) I like how this line actually has a steel bar on either side, and each is independently latched to the car's Latch system, plus the fact that it allows anchoring even rearfacing. Anchoring is when the top of the car seat is tied down to the floor of the car. In an accident where the seat belt fails or the latch fails that anchor can keep the seat in place.

With my children, I used a Graco Snugride for my first, and a Graco Snugride 35 for my second. With my first I hauled the seat everywhere and just about broke my back and arms. :P The stroller was a monster to deal with (and actually got recalled.) She was switched to a Britax Decathlon at 16 months about. Because of fitting issues, we didn't go directly to the Britax with my second born. With my second, we got the Snugride 35 and left it in the car, taking him in and out, using an Ergo carrier. That was far more enjoyable and when he was crying or teething I could put him in the Ergo and bounce on my exercise ball or do things around the house and he'd calm down and sleep. If I was at church or something I could put him in the Ergo and walk and he'd fall asleep. It was far better for both of us. At about 10 months old, I put him in a Britax Boulevard 70 and we tried it on my newborn preemie nephew and he fit it as well. I'm impressed at the changes, and like it a great deal. If/When I have a third, we will go immediately to a Britax Boulevard 70 (or whatever has been updated.) They're more expensive, but should last the full 6 years until it's expired, and I have no complaints.

My daughter is nearly 16 weeks old...I have a travel system...here is the link for it http://www.mothercare.com/My3-3-wheeler-travel-system-Black/dp/B00116V3NK/sr=1-1/qid=1225284758/ref=sr_1_1/276-6114477-7420761?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42803041&mcb=core

anyway...I have a really really tough time removing the pram section, and the carrier seat from the frame, it gets stuck all the time - which is a nightmare when im trying to get it into the boot of my car in the pouring rain(living in Ireland-its mostly raining!!) sometimes it takes 5-10 mins of pulling it shaking it to remove it, which is not convenient with a newborn baby inside it.

I paid â¬600($766) for this, and if you look at the reviews(which i only saw after i bought it) many of them say they have the same problem.

Anyway i brought it into the store today and the girl working in there said they would have to send it away to be fixed...I dont want it to be fixed, im actually so annoyed with it that i just want a new one all together...do i have any rights to get a full refund? would you demand it? after all it is faulty- i do not want my precious daughter in a faulty pram!!and i dont want to risk it happening again

sorry for the long rant, im just so annoyed, i got soaked wet today AGAIN whilst trying to remove the carrier seat!
lol no we dont have wallmart here...I have kind of decided that im not going to accept anything other than a refund. So i am just waiting for the girl from the store to phone me back.

Answer
Under Mothercare's terms and conditions you have the right to a refund if the pram is unused or displays a manufacturing fault within 28 of purchase.

If you feel that the problem with your pram has been existant from day 1 then you could probably argue it is a manufacturing fault. I just skipped over the terms quickly but I think if the 28 days have expired you then only have a right to have the pram repaired free of charge, provided you are within your gurantee period.

Worth taking it in and having a chat with them though.....

Travel System?

Kierstn an

Okay so I was looking for a stroller and car seat. I would like one of those car seats that hook into the bottom thing, that always stays in your car you know, not the kind you strap the seat belt over the top or anything.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9870497

Okay, is that the same thing? And like does that car seat somehow clip into the stroller? I think that would be a good idea. Or are they just seperate, and you just put your baby in the stroller?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
That's it...the base stays in your car. One thing I will mention...when I was looking at travel systems, I found out that The Safety First brand had a lot of recalls. I opted for Graco as I found that it was better, and less problems.

What do you think of the Baby Trend brand stroller/car seat travel system?

wonderingi

Particularly the "Venture" style. And, did anyone order it direct from the website? If so, where can you take it if there is a problem?

Answer
Love the stroller, hate the car seat, would never buy the travel system.

You can try out the strollers or at least some of the models at Target and Toys R Us/Babies R Us. I love them, they're comfortable for my kids, easy to maneuver, easy to go through sand, dirt, grass, whatever, and I haven't tried out a nicer stroller. I love the large wheels that are bicycle wheels so that it's easy to fix them and for them to go over obstacles. :)

However, I don't like the car seat because you can try them at Target as well, and you have to put the two hooks together then push them into the seat-belt latch, and when working with a restless baby that would be a nightmare. Graco and other infant seats let you push in one side then the other, which makes it a lot easier when you're working with a restless baby.

I also don't like people putting the baby in a car seat outside of the car. It makes the car seat at risk for knocking against things and becoming damaged, as well as it curves the baby. SIDS research says over and over that we need to lay the baby flat or be carrying the baby, and research has proven that while car seats save their lives in an accident you should limit their time in a car seat (or anything that tilts them) to less than 3 hours in a day and no more than 1 hour at a time, and basically not use it in anything but the car.

So the stroller is nice, get the stroller, but order it through something like Target or Walmart's or babies r us so that you can take it there if there's a problem. Skip the car seat, get one that is better and will work better. Carry the baby for the first 4 months, either your arms or a Moby Wrap for a cheaper alternative to something like an Ergo, it's really not hard. Do a search on car-seat breathing and you'll find the studies done about the dangers.

Add: Looked at the stroller. It's not the jogger that I prefer. If you're going to go with that style of stroller, look at the Chicco strollers. They lay completely flat, so it's better for the SIDS aspect, and have better reviews. I honestly wouldn't get a Baby Trend stroller that's not the jogger because they don't push well, don't maneuver, don't move well. It's all about the wheels and those little wheels always are a pain in the neck on strollers.

This is one similar to what I thought you were talking about. They're approved for babies about 2 months up.

Do you think a light pink baby travel system will get too dirty?sk?

;-)

I have seen a travel system that I want if I have a girl. It's a graco and it's light pink. Would it get dirty fast because it is light pink? Or should I buy another color?

Answer
Do you plan on having any more kids after this one? if so I dont recommend buying pink because if you were to have a boy after, I doubt you would want to use it. I'm having a little girl and went with gender neutral so I can use it again with my next child. How dirty it would get depends. My trunk can get kind of dirty sometimes with everything going in and out (especailly dirt on the stroller wheels) so you might find it would get dirty in there. Its up to you.

I want a travel system for a baby girl under $250?

KayceeL

I want it very bright or busy, it needs to go BAM! I can't find anything I like. I'd prefer a pink or turquiose. Car seat and Stroller! I'm due in April and I can't find anything I like! Help

Answer
Have you actually gone to Babies R Us to "test drive" a travel system? You really should. You might get the color you love and then hate the stroller part.... I suggest you start with a travel system you've "test driven" then find the color you like.

Good luck.

Best stroller/ baby travel system out there?

Mrs. Troy

I am due in July with my first baby, and I am having second thoughts about the stroller that I picked out. I picked out a Graco Stylus Travel System. The car seat holds up to 35lbs, and the stroller holds up to 50 lbs. I have read all of the reviews, and the only thing I am kind of worried about is how heavy people say that it is. Not pregnant, I am not a big person, only weighing in at about 120 (pre-pregnancy) and I'm only 5'2".

Do any of you all have any suggestions on a really good baby travel system? You can see the travel system that I picked out originally if click on the link below :).

I am having a baby girl by the way, but I would like to keep the stroller somewhat sex neutral just in case I end up having any more children.

Your input is greatly appreciated :)

Answer
There are a lot of things you can easily pick out by looking online. However, some things just need a first hand look. I think baby equipment is one of those things. It's helpful to see things in person before deciding on things like strollers, car seats, cribs, and travel systems. I suggest you go to several stores such as Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Target, Walmart, Sears, JC Penney, or any other local stores that carry baby items. Take some time to push the strollers and practice folding them. See first hand how heavy they are and how much room they take up when folded. Feel the fabric on car seats and check out how the latching system works. Sometimes looks alone just can't give you a good idea as to what you are going to get. After you find the items you like best than you can do some research to find the best web site to get the best price deal on exactly what you want. Personally, I don't think there is a best or really good travel system only because each one has their own set of pros and cons depending on what your wants and needs are. All are going to meet minimum safety standards, so it will take some investigation to find the one that suits you best.

What are the best baby brands for...?

Stroller
Bottle
Car Seat
Formula
Diapers
And anything else you can contribute on from experience

Answer
maclaren, graco quattro tour deluxe travel system
playtex ventaire advanced; older baby...drop ins
britax
enfamil lipil/ AR for babies with reflux..we have used both
pampers swaddlers, everything else leaked

here's my book.....

well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the e

Pram/Pushchair/Buggy safety Q?

Katja Dafi

Boyfriend recently bought us a SilverCross 3D, which was lovely, but wouldn't fit in the car!
Since, I've been looking at the lightweight and smaller ones, with room for growing - but damn if they don't look unsafe!
I don't know if I'm over reacting, but since I read the complaints (horror stories) about the iCandy Cherry and the seat practically falling off (what could have happened in the middle of the road) I've since been going through any pram I'm looking to buy with meticulous care.

I love the Obaby Zezu, but in the pictures it looks like the only thing supporting the seat is the plastic connector bits (what's the name? :/) is that really going to be strong enough to support a baby, or toddler, when he gets bigger?

The reviews all look good, and there's nothing that I can find about them breaking, but it looks so flimsy :/ what exactly is supporting the seat? Could it possibly be dangerous?

Gosh, never used to be such a worrywart. Thanks for any help!

Answer
Many of the more expensive umbrella strollers, especially the Mamas and Papas and Peg Perego have a full layback option and the option of a SOFT carrycot or bassinet attachment that will make them suitable for a newborn. Some of them are even travel system adaptable, and most have a good STURDY mounting set up for the carseat.
Have a look at these ones, as they WILL fit in even the smallest of cars, they are sturdy and will take a LOT of abuse without having the topple risk that a lot of the trendier travel systems have.

Can anyone give me advice on a stroller/travel system??

allybd76

Any advice? good/bad.... Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated.

Answer
Go to Babies R Us and test drive strollers.. We got ours as a gift a Graco Travel system.. The infant car seat was nice, but we didn't use the stroller very much.. Then when we had another baby two yrs. later we ended up buying a tandem stroller with a standing/sitting jump seat.. Joovy ! I love it.. Becasue it folds nearly flat and weights quite a bit less than our Graco. The infant seat adapter comes with it! I would suggest maybe buying a used or borrowing a Graco travel system if you can.. They are nice, but really heavy and take up a ton of room and they are a pain to fold... If it were me and I was looking for a stroller I would opt for getting a car seat that was for 5lbs-40lbs or 80 lbs and getting a regular lightweight stroller... Especially if you have more than 1 vehicle if you wanted a base for each car atleast for the graco strollers it's an extra $40... However, I got one at a garage sale for $10.. It's all dependant really on how much you want to spend and how much you are going to use it.... Look at ebay or Craigslist and see if you can get one used.. I'm selling ours with an extra infant seat/base for $70. The Graco's atleast retail for $170 for the travel system.... Good luck

Price matching at Babies R US?

Gina

Does anyone know if they price match at Babies R US. They have a deal to get a Gifr Card if you buy an item but the same item is on sale at target for $10. So, I would like to buy it for $10 and get the $5 Gift card.
Regardless of how expernsive they are the the price difference is not that great, it is a better deal to get the item there even with out the price match and recieve the gift card for $5.

Answer
They do on certain items. I have a mailer I just got from them yesterday and it says within 14 days and in store only and a list of what counts.

Anyone know what car seat I can use to fit 3 across?

MOMMYOF2

I need to fit 3 carseats in a 2010 Dodge Avenger. Right now I have a 2 yr old weighing 26 lbs in an evenflo "chase" convertible carseat and a 9 month old weighing 17 lbs in a Evenflo infant carseat. I Have a new baby coming in the beginning of July. Hopefully the 9 month old will be big enough to put in a convertible carseat. Does anyone know where I can go (maybe online) to figure out how to fit 3 carseats in my car? With the seats I already have there is not much room.

Answer
You can go onto car-seat.org
From there you can search for successful 3 acrosses of car seats. Many have been done and have been successful. You can also post your info :)

Kids can use convertible car seats from birth, as long as the convertible car seat has a low minimum weight limit (of 5 lbs) and a low harness height of 7 inches. Many convertibles come with infant inserts in them. Convertible car seats can be installed rear facing up to 30 degrees from vertical which can help achieve more leg room for the driver and passenger. The 45 degree rule only applies to newborns and other children without head and neck control.

Since your 2 year old only weighs 26 lbs, I would highly recommend that you continue to rear face him (or her) much longer. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends to rear face a child until at LEAST 2 years of age. Many kids can make it to age 3 and for some smaller kids to age 4. Kids are 5 times safer rear facing! Rear facing is the safest method of travel. A child under age 2, should NEVER be in a front facing car seat. If you were in a crash of low speed, I can guarantee you that your child will suffer from severe injury, if not death. If you were to front face before age 2, I can guarantee that your child will suffer from broken legs and/or a broken neck! In fact, broken legs are the most common injuries for front facing children. When a child is front facing, the child's legs fly forward, hitting the driver or passenger seat in front of him. Regardless of weight, a child under age 2 doesn't have the bone density to take the force of a crash.

If you aren't going to turn your 2 year old back to rear facing, then ALWAYS use the top tether provided by the car seat. All car seats have this and all cars manufactured after 2002 have a factory installed top tether anchor. All you do is attach the top tether (a strap connecting the back top half of a car seat) and hook it on the tether anchor and tighten. It takes literally 5 seconds. Federal standards for head excursion without the top tether is 32" and 28" with the top tether. If you were to measure this in your vehicle, you may notice that 32" runs into the driver or passenger seat, and that 28" make be cutting it VERY close.
the latch system (to hook a car seat to the car with the metal hooks on the car seat to the anchors factory installed in the car) can only be used in the outboard seating positions unless your vehicle's owner manual says specifically that this can be done. This is because on the outboard positions the lower anchors are connected by a metal bar for reinforcement. The center seating position may or may not have that reinforcement. This means in most cars, you cannot install a car seat with latch in the center seating position.

It is most preferred to have the forward facing child in the center seating position because the rear facing children are much safer. If you can install the forward facing child in the center seating position with less than one inch of movement (rock solid install is better), then have the child sit front facing in the center. The center seating position is 43% safer than the outboard seating positions

A rear facing car seat is outgrown when ONE of the following happens:
-the child has hit the maximum weight limit of the seat
-the child's head is 1 inch away from the shell

Torso height is the height from the child's bum to the very top of the head, when the child sits crossed legged against the wall. Many car seats have shell heights of about 23 inches and have weight limits of 40 lbs. Overall height (from head to toe) doesn't determine when a child outgrows a car seat.

The Diono Radians are very narrow car seats. They are so narrow that having one of them will help you fit 2 other car seats across. The R120 and RXT both have a rear facing weight limit of 45 lbs, and a forward facing weight limit of 80 lbs with a 17.5 inch top slot for the harness. Despite being narrow, it can take up a lot of room front to back because of its tall shell. Diono has created a foam wedge that will adjust the angle of the child seat. It may help take up less room front to back. Before you buy any car seat, make sure that you try it in your vehicle!

As a side note, the Evenflo chase is not a convertible car seat- it is a combination seat. A convertible car seat converts from rear facing to front facing and a combination seat converts from front facing with the harness and then the harness is removed and the seat is used as a booster. (A booster seat positions the adult seat belt correctly on a child).

Car crashes are the leading cause of injury, disability, and death for children under 12 years of age in the United States.

Taking my truck on a 2,000 mile trip?

.

I'm making a round trip that's gonna add up to about 2,000 miles and I'm taking my 93 Explorer, it's only got 53K Miles on it and seems to be running fine. What all should I check to make sure it won't break down on the way? I won't have a ton of money on me to get it fixed if anything goes wrong.
Jesse, are they free? And do you think they'd lie to me like alot of car places do so they can get $$$? lol

Answer
Lets start with MY Car Travel Checklist:

1. Planning your road trip close to the summer months is nice, but if you're going during July and August, be prepared for crowds at the national parks and other popular destinations and make your reservations early. Camping Check List
2. Service your car and have a mechanic ok your car for the long trip.
3. Bring tools, extra fan belt, quart of oil, gallon of water, Hand Wipes, flash light, tire pressure gauge (check tire pressure often), car manual, garbage bags, tire chains if expecting snow, matches, can opener, pillows, babies special items, Vector Power Inverter, cooler & picnic items. Picnic Tips Picnic Supplies Folding Table & Folding Chairs
4. Check your spare tire and make sure you use your car jack to make sure it works & if all the cars tires can be removed.
5. Have a Road Emergency Kit with jumper cables and a gas can. Survival Books
6. Each person should have there own set of car keys. Don't forget a Portable First Aid Kit, and some Sun Screen & Lip Balm.
7. Buy a Rand McNally 2010 The Road Atlas and maybe buy Driving Software to find campgrounds and points of interest along your chosen route. Try a Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Automobile Navigator but also have maps just in case the GPS stops working but also to verify the routes your taking because GPS systems are not perfect.
8. Find out if there are any special events happening along your route that you might want to see or avoid. News Papers Events
9. American Automobile Association (AAA) is a good place for resources. If you become a member you might be able to get some discounts at certain places. Automobile driving links to check for road closures and safety tips
10. Make reservations to campgrounds or Hotels if needed.
11. Make a list of things and gear that you might need. Recommended Gear.
12. A few days before you leave, pack your car with all your gear to see if everything will fit.
13. Follow the rules and regulations of the places you are visiting and always be nice to the small town locals.
14. Make a Travel Check List.
15. Cell Phone & charge cord. Check with your cell phone provider to see if you have coverage in the places you are visiting. Write down and input emergency phone #s into your cell phone of the places you're visiting, hotel phone #, tour group phone #, car rental phone # & the airlines 800 # in case of flight changes, embassies, police, hospitals & your doctor to name a few.
Travel Cell Phones and GPS Rentals Wireless solutions for over seas
16. Leave plenty of extra time on your trip to be spontaneous. Try to avoid driving in congested areas during rush hour traffic.
17. Driving long distances is tiring so take breaks and share the driving. Also bring things to entertain yourselves, like music, games, toys for kids and a journal to write about your trip. Bring a camera too.
18. Bring your sense of humor and be prepared to get under each others skin because not sleeping good, not eating good and being out of your comfort zone makes everyone a little more susceptible to irritations from travel mates. So be aware that this is usually unavoidable even on short trips. Talk about these moments before you leave. Stay safe and stay in control. Enjoy.

What are your top ten baby products ever?

Expecting!

I am starting to shop for the new baby and i am worried i will forget something. What were your must haves? What was a waste of money and what do you wish you had but didn't.

Answer
1 - carseat (I like the travel system with stroller kind)
2 - baby carrier - I love the Ergo carrier but also have several others that seldom get used. A Moby wrap is nice for nursing though & good for newborns
3 - clothing of course & whatever type of diapers you plan to use (cloth or disposables)
4 - diaper changing table/station - ours is downstairs & it makes it so much nicer than going up & down stairs all day.
5 - breastpump - but I had to go back to work - it's not as necessary if you stay home & then of course all the stuff that goes with that...breastpads (I think Johnson & Johnson make the best disposables AND cloth ones) - Lansinoh cream for nipples, milk storage bags (they warm MUCH faster whether frozen or just refrigerated), bottles of some sort....my preference is Second Nature
6 - exersaucer - my first LIVED in this thing as soon as he could set up & still asked to get in after he could walk...LOL
7 - Boppy Pillow or Breastfriend - whether you nurse or not - it is a back saver!
8 - Swing - baby may or may not love it. My first hated the swing & never never took to it - but you can't know until you know & many babies love them. They will be a lifesaver if baby likes them for things like showering.
9 - Bumbo Seat - my first loved this thing & we used it until he didn't fit in it. He loved to eat there instead of the highchair..so we packed the bulky highchair up after a certain point & I don't plan to even bother getting it out this time. Our Bumbo has a tray & everything - so it's totally sufficient.
10 - Swaddle-me blankets. Both my babies have loved swaddling but I never got one of these until this time - now I own 5...LOL They are wonderful for a baby that likes swaddling!

Stuff we didn't need that we bought or were given:
With my first - the swing - total waste, same with the highchair
We bedshare with our babies, so I don't really need a bed for them that first year...but I do keep a bassinet for naps, etc. I bought a crib for my first after he was a year & attached it to our bed to give us all a little more room. We didn't need one or want one until then. The nice part is because I waited & just kept an eye out for a deal I got a nearly $500 crib for $99 ob clearance. You definitely don't need a bed in a bag for your crib. They recommend you don't use any bedding in with baby & also no bumper...so just buy the sheets & bedskirt as that is all you are supposed to use anyway. I didn't even do that - since it was attached to our bed I bought an extra twin bedskirt to match our bed & twin sheets. The I made the bedskirt work with tucking & safety pins & I use these: http://www.google.com/products?q=snug+sheets+clips&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=Gz7NS5SDA4WsNe_ciNMP&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CDEQrQQwAg to make the sheets snug. It's very easy.

How much does a baby cost?

Rensa Flae

I'm in my early twenties, in a stable relationship and engaged. I'm not planning on having a child now, or soon - I still want to do things as a "childless" individual. I'm just curious, and I'd like to be prepared for when I make that decision. How much should a couple have saved before trying to conceive.
I appreciate the numbers thus far, but I am looking more for an answer in the form of a number.
I know that children cost a lot (and only increase in cost as they become older and have more expenses), and that once I do have children, there is a probability I will be financing them past their twenties.

Like I know I'll have to set aside a good amount for diapers, medical expenses, clothes, months that I'll be on maternity leave, things for a nursery, maybe a nursery school etc - I'm just not sure of HOW much to set aside initially.
I appreciate the *ANSWERS (is what i meant)

Answer
Figuring out how much money to save before hand is dependent upon you really. If you are planning on buying everything very expensive and brand new you'll need a lot, probably at least $10,000 - $15,000 for the first year. My husband and I have only spent maybe $800 - $1,000 on our daughter total so far (she's almost 3 months old now and we started buying things when I was 20 weeks pregnant) and the only thing we'll need to buy for her is a couple packs of diapers once she grows out of size 3, otherwise we have everything we need for her for her first year. I breastfeed so we don't spend any money on formula. We bought her pack and play and stroller/car seat travel system on clearance, 60% of her clothes were given to us, either as hand-me-downs or gifts at our baby shower and the rest we purchased on clearance. We stocked up on diapers and wipes on sale while I was pregnant and paid next to nothing for them and received a bunch of stuff we needed for our baby shower. We will be feeding her what ever we are eating once she is old enough to be eating solids so we won't be spending any extra money on baby food. Also, all of our daughters medical expenses are covered by our insurance. All in all for us our daughters first year is not costing us that much money, neither will her second or third year. I suspect we won't start spending that much money until she's about school age. Parents who formula feed, feed jar food and baby cereal, buy diapers at regular price, buy all of the priciest things, buy all brand new, name brand clothing and have medical expenses not covered by insurance will easily spend upwards of $10,000 in the first year.

What's your favorite travel system? Why is this your favorite?

luv my 2 b

include picture if possible please.
I need help choosing a travel system, I want one that's a neutral color so I can use it for the future.
Thank you.

Answer
We bought an Evenflo Aura and I absolutley LOVE IT
We live in a small town in BC Canada... we get about 20' of snowfall per year and the city isnt great at getting it off the sidewalks. My son was born in December 07. The shocks on this stroller are awesome. A few weeks after my son was born we started going for daily walks. This was his favorite time and always fell asleep. It has a large storage hanger under the seat and it holds alot!! There are 4 cup holders in total, 2 for baby and 2 for parents. + a bunch of zippered compartments and waterproof ones too. It even has a thing by the handles that you can put whipes into with a dispenser out the top (I havent used this but what a good idea!) We got the system in a brown plaid, It is masculine but I feel it could work very well for a little girl aswell.
The only negative thing about this stroller is when you are using it without the infant seat, the back doesnt sit all the way up, it stays a little reclined. This is not a big deal for me at all because my son sits up very well on his own, so he doesnt need the support of the back.

I am so glad they invented travel systems! It is SO easy to take the carseat out of your car and clip it to the stroller, especially when baby is sleeping.

Good luck with your decision and congratulations!

i thought Canada had free UHC so why did a couple get a MILLION dollar bill for a baby delivery?

..........

http://news.yahoo.com/australian-couple-1-million-hospital-bill-baby-born-080702717.html

and why does it cost Canada 1 million to deliver the baby anyways? i thought their HC costs were lower than the US?

Answer
Canada has free UHC for Canadians; this couple is Australian. The bill wasn't just for delivering the baby, it was for her three-month stay in the neo-natal ward.

I agree that the amount seems outrageous, but it seems the couple didn't do their homework before travelling.

"John Kan and Rachel Evans had taken out travel insurance and extra coverage for Evans' pregnancy without realizing the policy would not cover the birth or the baby"

Oh, I'm Australian, not Canadian, just so you know I've no reason to defend the Canadian system.
