Anyone know of a 3-in-1 pram system with a carry strap on the folded chassis?

Camp-follo

Calling all mum's out there. My husband and I are looking at purchasing an Icandy Peach system for our babe-to-be, problem is I'm loathed to spend all that much money! Does anyone know of any other similar travel system/ 3-in-1 prams that have the same carry strap attached to the chassis when folded to allow you to carry it over your shoulder? It's really only the strap and the one handed folding mechanism that are selling it to me, I'm not worried about 'designer names' or anything.
I just need to be able to get it on and off public transport on my own (and i'm pretty much a titch)

I just wondered if any of you lovely ladies (or gents) have come across a similar design on another pram make/model?

Answer
baby jogger prams have a i pull strap to easy fold that the pram can be carried but it doesnt go over the shoulder some prams can have straps attached to the lockig clips my quicksmart allows for it as its designed to be carried

Mums to be - Please help, I cant decide on Concord Neo or Bugaboo?

What is the best stroller to buy for a new baby?

Kim B

I seen those travel system strollers but they are so bulky! Any suggestions? I am looking for something that is compact and easy to lug around- if that is possible. :) Thanks!

Answer
Aha! I can answer this one! I did tons of stroller research and I found the perfect one! It's the Valco Latitude. It is a 3 wheeler but not a jogger and it is only 17 lbs. If folds very small and is super light. The front wheel swivels or locks out. It has a nice, roomy cargo basket underneath. It comes with the attachment straps to add the carseat when baby is a newborn and when baby gets a little older the seat is super adjustable. Baby can sit almost completely upright to see the world or even lie completely flat for naps. It has a nice big canopy for sun shade and even comes with the wind/rain cover and cold weather boot! All the other strollers I looked at that were in the same category ended up being much more expensive because the accessories are sold separately. I paid almost $300 for the whole thing and it was worth ever penny! It is able to be used up till 50 lbs too! So you should never have to buy another one down the road. Also I like to travel a lot and its super light for gettin in and out of the trunk or on and off the plane etc. It has a telescoping handle too so if you are on the tall side it's still very comfortable to push. Very maneuverable, smart design, looks great! I can't say enough goos about it! Check it out online at: http://www.babystrollershop.com/valco_latitude_single.htm

I love it!!!

What is the best jogging stroller that will fit in a compact car?

Leslie

I am looking for the best bang for my buck in a jogging stroller to fit inside the trunk of a Honda Civic. I have been searching for a while now and have yet to find an answer to this question. I do a sizable amount of jogging along with trail hiking and would like to find something suitable to my needs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to those that have responded! We checked into the baby trend expedition and really like that one! For the last gentleman that wrote or anyone else let me go into a little more detail to maybe get a good idea! We want to use it just walking the lake or running the lake, disney, etc. reg stuff. But one thing we do is offroad trails, so we do need one that offers a smooth ride on gravel or dirt as well. Then of course the above mentioned that is also compact enough to fit in our trunk. I agree the BOB is the best my sis in law has one but a little more pricey then what I want to pay. Now if someone was giving me one, ok I'll take it, lol! But looking to spend between 100-200! Again thanks so far for the answers. Also to the last gentleman have you heard about the baby trend expedition that the first lady mentioned?

Answer
It depends on what your needs for the stroller are. If you're only going to use it for jogging yo could buy a stroller like the Instep Ultra Runner. The Ultra Runner has a fixed front wheel, weighs only 17lbs, folds up very compactly and is suitable for a child 6 months and older. You can buy them on Amazon for around $130.

For an inexpensive all around jogger you can look at the Baby Trends. Just do a search for advise on the specific model you are considering. Baby Trends front wheels tend to loosen up and require more maintenance than most models. Some models are worse than others, with the newest one we sell being the worst. The whole front wheel assembly has fallen off twice just being tested around the store. When you remove the footrest to fix it there is a label telling you how to fix it. I guess the label is cheaper than finding a better system.

A higher end all around is the BOB Revolution. I have spoken to around 100 people that own BOBs and have yet to hear a complaint other than it being more expensive than others.

From your description I would recommend the instep. Besides being economical, it has the least amount of resistance of all the joggers I have tested.

Yes I sell the Baby Trend Expedition and a few other Baby Trend Models. I would google the exact model of Baby Trend that you're looking at, because some of them have problems with their front wheels. You also can't go by price with the expeditions, as some of the cheaper ones are great, and some of the more expensive ones I wouldn't recommend.

Here's my buy/don't buy list:

The Expedition strollers sold as travel systems seem to hold up well, but I'm not a big fan of the Baby Trend Infant Carrier, but at $200 or less it may fit your needs.

Baby Trend Expedition LX Jogger Stroller - Sonic $130; has some front wheel problems, so expect to adjust it monthly, you'll need a phillips screwdriver, adjustible pliers and about 15 minutes.

Baby Trend Velocity Jogger Stroller - Matrix $180; I would never recommend this stroller. The front wheel assembly actually falls off. I have read reviews that said people don't realize the front wheel is supposed to come off via the quick release. That's not the problem, it's the whole front wheel assembly comes apart inside the housing and the wheel and fork fall off. This has happened twice while a guest has been pushing it around the store. If you try to overtighten the wheel to keep this from happening it becomes hard to turn an greatly increases the resistance of the jogger.

Baby Trend Expedition LX Jogging Stroller - Rocket $120; this is one of the Baby Trends I recommend most. They have changed their front wheel assemblies many times, and this seems to be one that has the least problems.

So my recommendation for you would be the Instep Ultra Runner for $130 on Amazon, or the Baby Trend Expedition LX Jogging Stroller - Rocket for $120 at BabiesRUs.

Hope this helps,

Alan

What is the best jogging stroller at an affordable price?

I am looking for a good jogging stroller. I have a 19 month old son and I have been using the Graco travel system stroller when I go walking jogging. I go almost every morning and bring my son with me. The Graco stroller is not ideal for jogging because it has 4 wheels and I struggle and get tired very easily when I start to jog. Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer
Jogging strollers can get pretty expensive. You can get the Baby Trend Expedition jogging stroller for a decent price. Its not the best jogger out there but great for the price!

Check it out: http://www.stroller-obsession.com/baby-trend-jogging-stroller.html

Looking for a second hand one is a good idea too, I second that!

Good luck!

First time expecting mom seeking advice on infant car seat and strollers vs travel systems etc?!?

kjfdhgks

Hello
I am a first time expecting mother and am pretty confused on all the baby gear options. I've ruled out that, although a convertible car seat saves money and stuff, that I do want to go with an infant car seat so that I don't have to wake the baby every time we get out of the car...Maybe? lol Im also torn between using a travel system or just getting an infant car seat and a light weight stroller. I do plan on getting the baby Bjorn as well. Im only 4'10 and I have concerns with a travel system being too bulky and heavy. I also want to make sure Im going to get use out of it. I would love opinions from experienced mothers on what worked for you or even expecting parents and what your planning on doing. This is all so confusing and overwhelming as a first time mother because im not really sure what will work and all. Thanks=]

Answer
Definitely 100% get a travel system. We got one and it's made life much easier. The carseat snaps right into the stroller when they're little so you don't have to move them out of it and into a stroller. They make lots of lightweight ones- if you look on the internet at some, just check the weight- it will say how much in the description.

We had a baby bjorn too but only used it maybe 5 times. Barely ever used the bumbo either- both were waste of money in our case.

convertible car seat vs infant car seats?

I was wondering if I could get some insight on purchasing a convertible car seat rather than an infant car seat for my baby. The convertible seat we are looking at can be rear facing and forward facing and sits from 5-65lbs. Or do you think we should just purchase the infant seat? Thank you in advance!

Answer
I bought a travel system with an infant seat. Itwas handy because I could move my baby in and out of the car without waking him. We moved him into the convertible seat (a Britax Boulevard, my son still loves that seat! He's 3 now) at about 9mths, rear facing, and he was a lot more comfortable in there than he was in the infant seat at that point. The infant seats have a lot of positive while your baby is young, but once they hit about 9-12months, you'll find your baby's head getting close to the top of the seat (the baby's head should be completely below the seat and within the side wings for maximum safety), and you might want to change. In the long run, it's cheaper just to buy a convertible now, but if money's not an issue and you want the convenience, then an infant seat is definitely a good investment.

Best travel system?

Q. I am going to buy a travel system for my baby. (has a car seat, and stroller combo) I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice as to which ones are the best? I was looking to spend around $150-$200.
Forgot to mention that I'm having a boy.....don't know if that will help or not?

Answer
I am so glad I found this question. I have been eager to recommend the travel system we use to someone. It is the Chicco Cortina Travel System (Sahara is the style) http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2373617 and we LOVE it! (I think there are more colors too. Check in store for colors since they are not accurate online.) I had never even heard of Chicco. We ended up purchasing this system after we could not find an infant seat that would fit in our car. This was one of two that did fit. That is another recommendation I have; try the seats out in your own car before you buy. Babies R Us let me do this. We will soon be moving to a convertible car seat and I wish Chicco made those too! This travel system is such great quality. We noticed most other infant seats look cheap compared to this one. I was able to get the whole system for $200 plus tax. I used a few coupons to get it down from $279.99. Although, it IS worth that much. I had a coupon for (I think) $20 off a stroller over a certain price, one for 15% off any item, and I also used my remaining registry items coupon - an additional 10% off. Babies R Us has great coupons and they let you use a few at a time (read the fine print) so sign up on the web to recieve them! More about the travel system... I think my recommendation is based on quality, look, price, and enjoyment of use. The only downside is the small storage space underneath. I think it is enough room, but we have to take the infant seat off the stroller to get the diaper bag in and out. Don't know how other travel systems do in this area. That is such a small bother for me considering how much I love this product. So I don't mind at at all, plus I can throw the diaper bag on my shoulder if I want or use a smaller one. I love using this, and look for excuses to do so more often. Another tip for car seat purchases in general: check the foam thickness underneath the cover. I like to buy the thickest foam I can afford, as it absorbs the shock rather than your baby's body. Congrats Mom2be!
PS. The infant seat doesn't latch on to grocery carts... which is another thing that doesn't bother me. I always shop with someone so I can push the stroller and they can push the cart or vice versa. Just don't put him on top of the cart! I guess you will have to weigh those things and see which are important to you. Always check the store because there are so many great products that you would not otherwise know about. Be sure you really want whatever you are going to buy!

Best infant car seat brand/travel system?

I'm thinking graco and already have graco travel system but just wondering if I made the wrong choice this is my 1st child and have no experience with car seats. Should I get a convertible?

Answer
The Gracy Snugride 35 actually was rated one of the best infant seats on the market. The Snugride that goes from 20-22lbs actually are fine as well. The problem tends to be that babies outgrow them before 2 years old, and the tests say that a baby should rear-face to 2-4 years old (4 years old according to most of the research.) Now if your car seats are already in use, then I'd say just keep using them. They're safe, but you'll probably have to buy a new one in 6-8 months. A convertible gives you the ability of using the seat hopefully for the next 6 years and keeping them rear-facing longer (also after 6 months, when the baby is sitting up, they're more comfortable.)

I don't like travel systems as much because the strollers packaged with them tend to be heavy and hard to push. Plus, SIDS recommendations are that your baby sleeps on a flat surface not at a tilt. Car seats basically are the best place for a baby in the car, but when you take them out of the car you shouldn't keep them in a car seat. So a stroller that lays flat, or a chest carrier/sling you can use is safer for the baby to be in. And remember that an infant seat cannot sit on a shopping cart. Shopping carts (and car seats) are NOT made for that. Also, when you take an infant seat out it increases the weight of your baby by whatever the seat weighs, 20lbs sometimes, and it can really hurt your back hauling a bucket around like that. After your baby is 4-6 months old you can get a stroller that sits them up more safely (they're sitting up on their own more by that point) and are much easier to push.

If you have the money, I prefer the Britax-70 line. They rear-face to 40 and forward face to 70lbs, and I like the fact that Britax will replace your seat if there's an accident, but also that they guarantee it's safety in a small accident (most other seats require you to replace after a small accident as much as a large accident. Since Britax tests at higher impacts, they can guarantee it's safety after a short accident.) I like how this line actually has a steel bar on either side, and each is independently latched to the car's Latch system, plus the fact that it allows anchoring even rearfacing. Anchoring is when the top of the car seat is tied down to the floor of the car. In an accident where the seat belt fails or the latch fails that anchor can keep the seat in place.

With my children, I used a Graco Snugride for my first, and a Graco Snugride 35 for my second. With my first I hauled the seat everywhere and just about broke my back and arms. :P The stroller was a monster to deal with (and actually got recalled.) She was switched to a Britax Decathlon at 16 months about. Because of fitting issues, we didn't go directly to the Britax with my second born. With my second, we got the Snugride 35 and left it in the car, taking him in and out, using an Ergo carrier. That was far more enjoyable and when he was crying or teething I could put him in the Ergo and bounce on my exercise ball or do things around the house and he'd calm down and sleep. If I was at church or something I could put him in the Ergo and walk and he'd fall asleep. It was far better for both of us. At about 10 months old, I put him in a Britax Boulevard 70 and we tried it on my newborn preemie nephew and he fit it as well. I'm impressed at the changes, and like it a great deal. If/When I have a third, we will go immediately to a Britax Boulevard 70 (or whatever has been updated.) They're more expensive, but should last the full 6 years until it's expired, and I have no complaints.

Hi, I'm traveling to Hong Kong from Gatwick soon with my wife and 6 month old son?

gmar96

Our budget means we are unable to buy a seat for him and are considering reserving a baby bassinet seat. Question is are these seats safe and comfortable?

Anyone out there experienced the same thing?

Thanks

G

Answer
What do you mean by "safe"?

Will it support the weight of your child? Most likely. Each airline uses different bassinets, which means there is no standard sizing. There are height and weight restrictions, but because every airlines bassinet is different, those vary from airline to airline. Also, some airline put an age limit on them (10months seems to be the norm for those who have it). You will need to check on that. Some airline even mandate that a child can only use the bassinet while sleeping. Once the child is awake s/he must be taken out of the bassinet.

If you are asking will the bassinet protect your child? No. In fact, bassinets must be taken down and stowed away for taxi, takeoff, turbulence, descent, and landing. Bassinets do not have any system for restraining the child.

Bassinets usually attach to a bulkhead, lavatory or galley wall right in front of the parent's seat (in the bulkhead rows).

http://www.erieaviation.com/images/Baby-bassinet.jpg
On some British Airways planes they rest on a table that folds down from the wall.

http://daddytypes.com/archive/twin_airplane_bassinets.jpg
Airlines even use just over sized boxes that a parent can place on the floor. http://www.averyflight.co.uk/images/AmSafe-p9_02.gif
http://www.averyflight.co.uk/images/AmSafe-p9_01.gif

The very first time I traveled with my eldest I used an airline bassinet (I didn't know better). For the trip from Europe to the US I was given the cardboard box that goes on the floor to put her in. I didn't like it because it was too easy for other passengers to drop something on her.

For the flight back from the US to Europe I was given a bassinet that attaches the the bulkhead wall. While it was better then the box, it was still easy for people to push into when they were walking to/from the bathrooms, and this would cause the bassinet to sway (which of course worried me that it would fall).

If you do choose to use a bassinet make sure that you position your child so their feet are towards the aisles that way is anyone inadvertently bumps them, no real damage done.

If you haven't booked a separate seat for your child, be nice on check-in and see if they can "block" the seat next to you. They will then only use it if they absolutely need it. This way you can get a seat for your child free so you can have him/her secured in a car seat. (but only if it is available, and that won't be know until last minute).

I've been flying internationally and domestically with my children since they were 2 months (now 8, 6, & 3 months). At least three trips a year are the children and I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. In addition to that, we do another 8-10 international and domestic flights a year as a family. I have never had any problems with my children on any of the flights.

I wrote a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives security rules and regulations for the US, EU, UK, and Australia, offers tips and tricks for the travel, etc. http://www.angelfire.com/jamiehassen79/flying_children.html

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Are pregnant Mainland Chinese allowed to come to Taiwan now to have their babies?

We left an

I see what has been happening in Hong Kong.

With the expansion of travel from Mainland China to Taiwan granted by the KMT, how long will it be before a lot of mothers-to-be start planting their PRC children in Taiwan?
http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2011/05/06/chinas-wealth-drain/#axzz1lfWNzC00
In the past decade the number of babies born to mainland women who are not married to Hong Kongers jumped from 620 in 2001 to 32,563 last year.
"Honey, I'm going into labor. Get me on a plane to Taipei, NOW!"
(We can talk about how "all Taiwanese became Chinese" at a later date... OK?)

Answer
I am no immigration law expert, but from what I know, the short answer is yes.

The situation in Hong Kong is that pregnant Chinese women are going to Hong Kong to have children, leading to locals to stage a protest, arguing that public health resources are directed toward non-local people. As a result, public hospitals are crowded out, forcing Hong Kong women to seek higher priced medical service at private hospitals. While the number of pregnant women in mainland China traveling to Hong Kong have increased, it is thought that most of them are wealthy enough to buy their way into Hong Kong, the financial barrier is still great for most mainland Chinese.

From the public health perspective, Taiwan is already facing this kind of pressure, because Taiwanese doctors have all but fled the more traditional roles (pediatrics, surgical units, internal medicine, and obstetrics/gynecology), more and more doctors are seeking to practice in cosmetic surgery, which is much more lucrative in terms of effort and income ratio. If pregnant mainland Chinese come to Taiwan to have their babies, it is bound to have some impact on Taiwan's medical resources.

I know you are concerned about the issue of immigration, more so than the problems with Taiwan's public health. So here is my opinion.

There's a gradual increase of Taiwanese marrying mainland Chinese, and vice versa, happening in recent years, the government have set up tight control over who gets to enter Taiwan from mainland China. However, it does not seem there are tight rules over pregnant women seeking to have their babies in Taiwan. The same issue with having babies elsewhere, in Hong Kong or Taiwan, is the financial barrier. Taiwan's universal health care does not cover foreign individuals, therefore patients are required to pay at the full cost, which is quite a heavy sum.

Now if the situation is that PRC parents coming to Taiwan to have children, the current rule is that you still have to apply for legal status, which may or may not be approved. If one of the parents is a Taiwanese national, then you have a greater chance of being approved, providing that you have proof of parental DNA relationship. Both situations above require many paperwork, and is not easily fulfilled. To be honest, I think most mainland Chinese prefer to immigrate to the US, given that they can afford it. By the way, Hong Kong people also have a greater chance of being accepted to Taiwan.

In my opinion, Taiwan can probably take advantage of mainland Chinese immigrating to Taiwan. First of all, communist China will probably hesitate to raise a war with Taiwan, because it will cause casualties on their side. This might ease the tension across the straits. Secondly, to a raise a child in Taiwan is no small feat, Taiwan can harvest a lot of taxes off those rich mainland Chinese parents. Lastly, immigrating to Taiwan is very complicated, though I cannot definitively tell you there are no loopholes, I will tell you that once a mainland Chinese baby go Taiwanese, there's no turning back, because our system plainly works better.

Maclaren Quest stroller help please?

tequila

I am planning on purchasing a Maclaren Quest stroller. i was just wondering if anyone knew if there were any differences between the 2009, 2010 and 2011models (besides color). Specifically, I'm interested in the weight of the stroller. I'd appreciate any information on this. Thanks!

Answer
I know you asked for weight, and dont quote me here, but Im almost positive they are the same, the differences will be felt in improved functionality, comfort and seen in color/style. Ill see if I can locate a cust svc number you can give them a quick call and ask.

Two more things - I have this one (this is my umbrella stroller, I also have a Peg Perego "Travel System" - which I LOVE!!!, but I did want both, a hefty and a light stroller, and this is my light stroller and Im VERY pleased with it...) - http://www.albeebaby.com/maclaren-techno-xlr-stroller-black-champagne.html

I dont think you can go wrong with this brand, I believe youll be very happy. I know you CAN go get an umbrella stroller at Target for 4 bucks, and these are pricey, but let me tell you, quality wise, they are sooo worth it. NOT ONCE has one of these collapsed on a child and they were engineered by a guy who first started out building airplanes (cool huh!).

If you do get a hold of cust svc. make sure to ask them if your lil zipper side protectors will automatically come with your order, or if you need to order them separate. Maclaren did have a major recall a few years back, and their strollers have a MAJOR pinching (as in children losing fingers) hazard involved in their collapsing function - not to worry tho, they corrected it with these lil covers that you zip on urself (mine came with my shipment, I had to look it up on YouTube to see how to install em and where exactly they went tho...directions didn't make sense to me...eh???). So just make sure you get those, or dint use the stroller until they come.

Overall, youll be VERY happy with this stroller mom - its state of the art, high class all the way!!

If ur interested...Peg Perego products (travel systems, high chairs, infant carriers) are excellent. As well as Recaro convertible car seats (u can use from birth thru 70 lbs).

Im not a "rich" mom, but for some things (stuff Im going to use every day, and safety items) - Im willing to pay a lil more to get the very best. If youre just starting out buying baby stuff, you may wanna look at some of their products as well. I bought MANY a thing I did NOT need, and Id be happy to tell any mom about that...just like I always am happy to tell of the things that are "worth their weight in gold" in my house.

PS - here ya go - and theres an email address - yay!

Take care mom!!!

Now that my baby is almost too big for the carseat carrier...?

amykissing

what is the next best stroller? I LOVE my Snap-and-Go lightweight frame that you set the carrier into. I will miss it terribly. What should I get? I have a big old travel system (that I hate and is completely useless) but I just want something light and easy-- comparable to the Snap-and-Go but an upgrade from an umbrella stroller. Thanks

Answer
If you can afford it, a Maclaren Quest (or Quest Sport...they're the same thing..) is amazing. GREAT quality and very easy to use. The only weigh 13 pounds and the recline is amazing for an umbrella stroller. They hold up to 55 pounds, so its something you can use for a while. The average close to $200 though; but for the quality and durability its worth the price.

If that's a little too pricey, the Graco IPO is nice. Also has a good recline, and is fairly easy to use. I think it holds less than the Maclaren, but I can't recall the exact number.

Nothing beats the quality of a Maclaren umbrella stroller though!

Go into a store where you can play with the products and see what works best for you though.

Tips on traveling with a 1 month old?

Isabel

My husband and I are expecting a child in September of this year. We had already made plans to visit a friend in Montreal in September, but we decided to push it back due to the baby coming. We are planning on visiting friends for a few days, then coming home. Assuming our babe is healthy and there are no other reasons we shouldn't travel, we hope to go up there around the time the baby will be 1-1.5 months old. We live in VA and will be traveling by car.

We have taken the trip a few times without an infant (but with a 2-4 year old) and I was looking for any advice on traveling with a one-month old. I know she will still be sleeping a lot, and I know that between feedings and changings and stretchings we will have to make numerous extra stops, so we are planning to add a few hours at least to the trip. Our son will be staying with relatives for this one, so we won't have him with us.

Please, no condemnation of the decision to travel; we are quite adventurous when it comes to our kids and I want to take advantage of the fact that I won't be working; I'm not one of those moms who barricades herself in the house until the babe is older. Our friends can't wait to have us and the baby stay with them, so there shouldn't be any issues there. My only fears so far are about exposing her still new immune system to a totally different environment, any advice on extra protection on that front?

I read that below 3 months of age, you only need the baby's birth certificate to cross the border, is that true? We are taking a station wagon, and we were wondering what to take, how often to stop, and for tips on how to keep her entertained. Also, anyone who has stayed a few days outside home with a one month old, feel free to tell me about your experiences. I've heard it can actually be easier since the babe is still imobile and completely attached to you (I plan to put my Maya Wrap to good use).

Thanks, All!

Answer
I traveled from Philadelphia to Atlanta by car with my son when he was just two months old. I don't know the required documents, but I think you will need a passport or passport card. I do also know that traveling with a newborn is as easy as you make it. You really don't have to worry about entertaining a baby that young, but just be ready to stop and feed the baby on demand or better yet take turns sitting in the the backseat with the baby, so that you can feed him/her on demand. Also, stop every three hours or so for diaper changing. Be sure to also add on travel time for these stops. Good Luck, and this link should help you.

Answer
While I don't claim that the Canadian Health Care system is perfect, I do believe it is better than the American system. That said, even if Canada had a similar health care system as the U.S, there would still be people that crossed the boarder. For different reasons.

Large American cities are sometimes closer than large Canadian cities. Cities such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, are few and far between. So it's sometimes its faster to go to an American city. An example is Windsor, which is about 5h from Toronto, but just across the bridge from Detroit. Large cities, also, develop expertise in certain fields. Such as Oncology, Pediatrics, Neurology, Cardiology, and so on. Again, Canada has has only 3 major cities, where as the U.S has many.

Just because a few Canadian go to the U.S for health care, doesn't makes the American system better. It's just a red herring. There is a growing amount of Americans traveling to third world countries, like India, to get treatment. Does that mean that India has better health care?

As for baby Joseph. I want to know what you think of the following article.

Would you recommend the Chicco Cortina Travel System (stroller/car seat)?

Linds

Why or why not? Thank you!

Answer
i bought the keyfit 30 infant seat and the chicco trevi. i wanted a lightweight stroller because we travel a lot and didnt want a big bulky stroller. the cortina is a fullsize stroller that has nice features but the trevi works better for us. i love the keyfit 30. it only fits in shopping carts at one store so i started to sling the baby when i go grocery shopping. it is easier than having a bunch of people oohing and ahhing over my baby while i try to grocery shop anyway. ive had a graco travel system before and i liked it but that was 10 years ago. the chicco is really nice and i loved the extreme pattern. i also have the chicco play yard. what ive learned in baby products is you get what you pay for. the chicco line is top rated.

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?
I live in northern Indiana. I can order online (for stores that offer online purchases)

Answer
Things to consider. Why? I mean, except for transporting your baby in the car, a car seat should not be used for things like riding in the stroller, or on shopping carts, or things like that. It comes from the studies done in the last year or so that shows that a baby left to sleep or sit in an inclined position for too long can get into an oxygen lowered state. Ie, it's not good for them to be in an inclined position like a car seat for longer than 2 hours full in a day, until they're older than about 6 months old.

Now, since recalls done on strollers are far less than recalls done on car seats, you can get the stroller from someone selling second-hand (just doublecheck recall lists) and get a better car seat. The Chicco brand stroller, for instance, lays flat, making it usable from newborn on up. :) On Ebay, I can see a few for under $100 (make sure they say fully reclining.) I'm sure you could find some at Craigslist as well. :) Otherwise, you could consider using a baby chest carrier for the first few months until your baby is old enough (3-6 months) to sit at a slight incline, then you can get a stroller that nearly reclines all the way.

If you do that, my favorite travel system is the Baby Trend, at least to recommend to people. It's under $200, the car seat is one of the top safety rated (though the buckles are a pain in the neck I'll warn you now), and the stroller is a jogger that you can use as a stroller. I LOVE ours. They recline far enough back for about 2+months, so I wouldn't put a newborn in it, but if you can last the 2 months then it lasts to 40lbs. Only negative is that the basket is only rated to carry 5lbs, so you can't bring a huge diaper bag with you (or if you do you have to carry it.)

Shoot though. If you're dead set on a travel system, you can always find someone selling the stroller that goes with a travel system, buy that for a cheaper price, and then use the rest of the money to get the car seat, and get it cheaper that way. But I'm not a fan of travel systems. To me it seems like it ropes folks into thinking a baby should sleep in the car seat and it's just not safe.

Baby Travel System Help?

Rocio

Okay so we are shopping for baby items now! Yay!
My husband and I really want a convertible car seat, particularly this one "Safety 1st Complete Air⢠65 Convertible Car Seat - Great Lakes" (here is the link http://www.sears.com/safety-1st-complete-air-153-65-convertible-car-seat/p-04918152000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2)
But we are wondering if this car seat, or a similar convertible car seat would work for those new "snap n go" strollers, where its just a base, and you should just "click" the car seat in.
We want a travel system, but wish they wouldnt come with just the seat for the infant. Which is why we want the convertible seat, it lasts longer.

(this is what that snap and go stroller im talking about looks like http://www.sears.com/safety-1st-clic-it-33-infant-seat-carrier-black/p-04901811000P?prdNo=23&blockNo=23&blockType=G23 )

Please help.

Answer
The Safety First Complete Air is a great car seat... but it's not an infant snap-n-go type of seat. There's no convertible that will work with the snap-n-go strollers because they are all 'install and keep it there' seats. But really you don't need the snap-n-go Travel System. They're not worth it.

First, SIDS recommendations are that babies lay flat when they're not being carried. Even sitting in a car seat causes their oxygen level to dip and babies have died sleeping in car seats. Car seats are the safest place for them to travel in the car, but it's not for sleeping or spending long periods of time in.

Second, a snap-n-go stroller is cheapest NOW, but once the baby outgrows the infant seat (some as early as 6 months, most by a year or two) the stroller is garbage. You can't use it without the infant seat. And I'll tell you now, most babies want to sit up more from 6 months on. Compared with a normal stroller that will go to usually 50lbs and will last you for 5 years? No contest which is the better stroller. If you want something that lasts longer you do NOT want the snap-n-go, you want a normal stroller. I personally like the Baby Trend 'jogging' strollers with the big wheels for an economical choice. Try them out in stores. Small wheels tend to have problems going through sand (like at parks) and going up and over curbs/cracks/stairs are harder with small wheels.

To point it out, strollers are also rarely recalled and you can buy them used without worrying about an expiration date. So you can go on craigslist and buy a used one without it being an issue. The strollers that don't lay flat the baby can use once they can sit up while propped and their head is steady, usually from 4-6 months on. In the meantime, babies are usually very easy to carry, or get something like a Moby Wrap or Ergo and wear them (for the record, you can't put a baby seat on shopping carts, and using a stroller to go shopping is hard since it's not a cart, but put the baby in a sling/wrap/carrier and they'll fall asleep. It works WONDERFULLY.)

If you really want a snap-n-go you may be able to find one and a car seat to go with it on craigslist. Do NOT use the car seat in the car, that's not safe. However, if you're just using it for the stroller, then you should be able to do that.

poll: travel system OR light weight baby strollers?

Rodi= Yass

i like the travel system, but its so heavy and bulky even when its folded..
i like the light weight because its light!! but i still need a car seat... what should i do?
@ jen, i wish they were that cheap in my counrty :( the travel system costs around 480 $ and the light weight is around 130 $ :(
i cant afford both

Answer
OK, so I have both....Travel system and convertible seat and light weight stroller. Yes the travel system is conveienant when they are newborns and sleep alot, b/c the infant carrier can just be taken out of the car, without disturbing the baby. It's very nice that the infant seat secures to the stroller too. Especially b/c most light weight/umbrella strollers don't recline or have infant neck support. However.....Had I known that my son was going to outgrow his infant seat at 7 months, I would have skipped the travel system completly. My travel system was extremly expensive, Graco Quattro ($250), and now that my son is 1 year, it barely even gets used at all (the stoller stays at my moms now, just for when he goes there sometimes). I love my convertible seat, I have the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 ($100 @ Costco or BJs) and never need another car seat again. The lightweight stroller I have is the Chicco Capri. It's a very good quality umbrella stroller, that wasn't cheap either ($80) It's not a flimsy plastic type. The handles are higher up,(my fiance is 6' 2" and doesn't have to be all hunched over to push it), the frame is metal, but it's still super light, and I love it. Once I finally started using that, I questioned myself why I was such a jack*** to be luggin the big heavy stoller around all those months. If you can't afford both, I highly suggest getting a good convertible seat and a nice lightweight stroller....Both of those will be used for MANY years, whereas the travel system will probably only really be useful for several months (at least the seat part anyway), you can use the stroller for many years, but they are very bulky, and you would still need another carseat anyway.
Hope I helped.

Here is what I have

What is a travel system and why does it cost £900?

Trixie

Apparently it's something to do with a car seat because that question said the car seat was included. But can't you get a really good car seat for well under $200? Why spend a thousand a bucks on a "travel system"? What all does it come with?

Answer
A travel system comes with:
A stroller
An infant Carseat which fits into the stroller
A base for the carseat which stays in the car

I was bought one for $1300 NZD for my baby, and it's a great combo - the stroller can be facing you or away from you, a bassinet for younger babies, an umbrella to keep the sun away, a storm cover, the infant Carseat, the Carseat base, interchangeable coloured padding for different looks, a large diaper bag and a storage bag with wheels. The stroller lays flat for a newborn, and holds up to a 4 year old.
I would never buy this for myself.
I spent a lot of money on a diono radian RXT for my baby, my 4 year old can still fit rear facing in it. The diono is a convertible seat from 5-120lb, so I don't want an infant seat.
My mother in law bought the travel system for me and out of politeness I have had to use it (the stroller is great, but I hate the infant seat) if it were my choice, I would have bought a cheap $100 stroller and use my diono radian RXT and not used the crappy infant seat.

will the be a high demand for a Nurse anesthetist in the year 2013?

shady s

Answer
yeah theres a high demand for nurses and sooner as well as the baby boomers age. i find the current nurse system really redundant, lots of paper pushing as well as very little each nurse does. a physical therpy nurse and occupational therapy nurse can be consolidated into 1 since both are real basic. as more baby boomers come into the picture then nursing companies would do something to consolidate the field so nurses does more work than travel.

Andy f

In terms of game-play and keeping things fresh?

I only have WA and NL

So out of the following, which ones would you say are a must have? And which ones aren't worth the money?

Ambitions
Generations
Pets
Showtime
Supernatural
Seasons
University (To Be Released)
Island Paradise (To Be Released)

Also, what Stuff Packs do you think are worth getting? Or has the most content?

High-End Loft Stuff
Fast Lane Stuff
Outdoor Living Stuff
Town Life Stuff
Master Suite Stuff
Katy Perry's Sweet Treats
Diesel Stuff
70s, 80s & 90s Stuff

Thanks!

Also, a bit unrelated...but is it just me...Or does it seem that Sims 3 just doesn't quite have the same charm as it used to have in Sims 2? Or even 1 for that matter? Will any of these expansions bring that charm back?

Answer
If you enjoy playing with careers or want your Sim to have the ability to be self-employed (writer, painter, gardener, etc.) or like the idea of being more involved with your Sim's actual work, then you would like Ambitions. It added many new professions and self-employment, and added new education career. You can follow your Sim on the job as firefighter, architect, stylist, spirit hunter, private investigator. It added a salon, fire station, inventions, junkyard, sculpting, and a consignment shop to sell your art and various other things. The time machine is an awesome invention!

If you enjoy playing with non-traditional Sims, Supernatural is an excellent EP that added fairies, witches, genies (if you have Pets), and werewolves; enhanced vampires and ghosts; and allowed selection of non-human Sims at creation. It also added a lunar cycle, some interesting new venues, alchemy skill, the ability to grind your own gemstones, the fortuneteller career (mystic and psychic branches), and a consignment shop that is open 24/7. EDIT: Since you have Late Night, when I got Supernatural, it gave me the option to opt out of the celebrity system and/or remove celebrities altogether, YAY! It also added several new cool recipes and plants like mushrooms, ghost chilis, and honey.

If you enjoy the family aspect of Sims and want that more enhanced, then Generations is good. It added the daycare profession, which your Sim does at home, and several new toys for the tots and children. It also added after-school activities, boarding schools, pranks, discipline, learning/teaching to drive, sleepovers, and teen parties while parents are away.

If you crave realistic weather, they did an excellent job with Seasons. It added seasons (of course lol), very realistic weather, new recipe pumpkin pie, community festivals, new parties, trick or treating, snowboarding, rollerskating, iceskating, flowers to pick for simoleons, slow dancing, online dating, egg hunts, kissing booths, eating contests, tanning, swimming in the ocean.

I'm not as enthusiastic about Pets or Showtime. But between the two, Pets is the much better. It adds wildlife (turtles, lizards, etc.) that you catch and keep or sell, cats & dogs & horses you raise from babies or adopt as adults, an equestrian center to do races and breed horses, a training field for racing and jumping horses, new dog and cat parks.

Showtime wasn't worth the money, IMO. It added three new professions that you basically have to "babysit" your Sim so they don't bomb on stage as they do their constant gigs, and after playing awhile, the stage performances are extremely repetitive. If you play more than one Sim, it's difficult to do that because you have to really keep on top of what the performer Sim does.

And IMO, no stuff pack is really worth the money. The 70s, 80s, 90s pack was especially disappointing. They barely added anything, and they had SO many possibilities that they just didn't bother with.

I'm looking forward to University Life (baristas, brewing teas, "herbs" [drugs], and a ton of new social things) but Island Paradise? I'm just about beside myself, lol, waiting for it to come out in June! Houseboats, speedboats, jet skis, traveling between islands, living in the middle of the *ocean* if you want and not tied to any land, ladders, fishing off the boats, scuba diving with (they promise) sea life and not a rabbit hole, snorkeling...

UPPA BABY STROLLER? ANYONE?

A new day

Has anyone taken an uppa baby vista on an airplane?? Im planning on going to NY next week and was wondering if anyone has, did it come back all scratched or damaged at all? and what about the bassinet feature? I use the bassinet right now my son is only a month, will they except the bassinet part or do I need to use the actual seat???

Thanks!
wow I finally got some answers lol, I have posted this question about 5 times!

so thanks to you both for some answers

I would like to add that the bassinet feature I dont plan on bringing in the cabin but wanted to know if it could be checked at the gate along with the stroller, so the baby will have a bed when we get to our destination, also the carseat I just wanted to bring along so when our friend picks us up we will have one for the car ride..
fyi continental is garbage!! they dont tell you any info, they also failed to tell me that they charge for each bag none are free anymore, with a newborn you would think they would mention this knowing I will need extra baggage grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! the cost of my baggage way exceeds the price of the ticket!

ticket - $190
baggage both ways - $280
and that doesnt include an extra $100 each way if I want to bring the carseat!

RIDICULOUS!

Answer
I want to address something first - Regulations do not stipulate that a child needs to be in a CRS (Child Restraint System - otherwise known as a car seat), but the

FAA (Federal Aviation Administration - USA),
CAA (Civil Aviation Authority - UK),
JAA (Joint Regulatory Authority - Europe),
and CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority - Australia)

among others, and all airlines recommend children under 40lbs (18kg) have their own seat with a child safety device. In fact, many airlines offer half-price tickets specifically so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device.

I strongly advise using a CRS. I have always bought a seat for my children and used their car seats for them in the plane. It is the only way to ensure safety for your child - especially during turbulence. Depending on how bad the turbulence (and it can come on suddenly) anything not secured will go flying (I don't want to scare you, but I have seen it happen first hand). There are other reasons as well, many of which are not regularly spoken about (so as not to make parents afraid). The truth is, accidents and incidents with planes are rare, but when they happen, they can be more detrimental than an accident by car. Having your child in a car seat also makes children feel secure, is more comfortable for both you and your child, will help your child sleep, and gives you both the opportunity to relax a bit as well.

A CRS is a hard-backed child or infant safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

In order to be certified for use on an airplane, the car seat has to met the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Check the labels on the side of your car restraint for a sticker (words will be printed in red) for verification that your seat is safe for airplane use. Here is a picture of what the sticker would look like: http://jamiehassen79.angelfire.com/flying_children_pics/FMVSS.jpg

Now about the stroller, all airlines differ on what kind of stroller you are allowed to take, but all allow an umbrella stroller. Continental does not specify as to which type of stroller they allow, so if I were you, at the very least I would print out the page that talks about strollers being allowed. If an agent questions you on it, show them to prove to you where it says the type you have is not allowed.
http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/baggage/infant.aspx

Gate checking means that you are allowed to use your stroller up until you board, and it will be waiting for you as soon as you deboard the plane. Here is how gate checking a stroller works:

When you first check-in, let the agent know you have a stroller. They will put a a luggage tag on your stroller just like they do the rest of your luggage, except you are able to use the stroller throughout the airport. They will also give you the claim ticket for your stroller like they do the rest of your luggage. If you plan on using a stroller bag, le them know and they will give you the tag to put on the bag later once you have your stroller securely inside it, but before boarding.

When you go through security, you will be asked to fold your stroller and place it on the conveyor belt to be X-rayed. Because of this, it is always best to make sure that any "extras" you have on your stroller are taken off so that they are not damaged and so that the stroller can pass easily through the X-ray machine.

When you are boarding, whether you board first, in the middle, or last, there will be an agent that will take your stroller from you. Again, make sure that any extras are taken off so they do not get damaged during the flight, and secure your stroller in the closed position. The agent will place the stroller in a special compartment under the plane for the duration of the flight.

When you exit your flight, the handlers will have your stroller waiting for you at the end of the jetway, near the gate. Should you have a bus arrival instead of a gate arrival, they will place the strollers on the ground near the buses for parents to collect.

I've been flying internationally & domestically with my children since they were each 2 months (now 9&6, 10 months and currently pregnant with #4). At least three trips a year are the children & I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. We do another 8-10 international & domestic flights a year as a family. Due to this, I have written a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives up to date security rules & regulations for the US, EU, UK, & Australia, offers tips & tricks for the travel, etc.

JW's, How will we travel in the new system?

An Earthl

If we wanted to visit brothers and sisters across the continent would we travel different than we do now?
There will be a wedding I will want to attend in Australia.
We can walk no matter how long it takes. :)
I wonder how fast I'll get to Australia swimming from California? lol

Answer
Yes, you will indeed need to travel to Australia! :D :D :D

..This is also a topic myself and other brothers and sisters have spoken about, especially those with relatives that live in other counties!

I personally think that we will not only walk or ride horses. If you think about it, some of man creations are amazing and we now only use a small part of our brain. When we reach perfection and are using our brain to the fullest, i think that we will be able to invent means of travel, that will not destroy the earth etc..

..Having said that, I'd be happy to sit on an animal and travel.I'm quite adventurous and think it would be fun :) ...When I went to Thailand, my husband and I got a small taste of the Paradise. We went Elephant riding.....AMAZING!!! Played with the monkeys. Went OX cart riding. Sat with an patted a Tiger, bottle fed the baby tigers and played with lots of other animals. ...Was Great.

I can imagine that after Armageddon the Elephants will be helping us clean the earth and so will the monkeys...They are such great helpers. After the Tsunami in Thailand in 2004, the Elephants were the ones pulling logs and other heavy things.

..Sorry went a little off topic. :)

What pram would you get for a baby boy?

what pram would you get for a newborn baby boy??
Pictures please :) thanks :D

Answer
I have had 4 so far.

The 1st one was a century travel system that was rubbish and to hard for my son
2nd was a Graco Mosaic that was okay until the brake almost stopped working
3rd was a Mothercare Trenton Duluxe this was brilliant to start of with. Many different compartments for things and very light to push. But the back lever was getting stuck to often
4th and final one is a Sliver Cross Linear Freeway. this is one is the best for me son. You can have it parent facing or forward facing and he just loves it. You can adjust the handle and the hood goes over quite far

Mothercare 1
javascript:fnOpenWin("/richContent/B001SADRYM","606","594");

Graco 1

Silver Cross 1

Sadly I cant find a pic of the century one

what do you think of it? do any of you have it/seen it? pro and cons. and any opinions on it? :)

Answer
Ideally you want a pram where the baby can lie down at first. This pram does say from birth but its so much more practical if you get one that can convert both ways, flat and upright which is suitable for when they can support themselves. Also I've heard a lot of bad reviews about Maclaren being unsafe and children trapping their fingers in parts. Silver cross is the pram I have and I love it to pieces, its the 3d version and is so easy to put up and down and my little man seems to love it. Its a good make to go for but you should go for a 3 in 1 / travel system pram at least while they're young.
The juicy couture one would be a good one for when baby is a bit older, its good looking!

How to travel with a six month old?

Heidi

I have to travel alone with my six month old daughter from South America back to the US. The last time I traveled back alone was very difficult- and now she tends to wiggle around in my arms- any suggestions as to how to hold her on the plane?

Answer
I've been flying internationally and domestically with my children since they were each 2 months (now 8&6, and 5 months). At least three trips a year are the children and I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. In addition to that, we do another 8-10 international and domestic flights a year as a family. I have never had any problems with my children on any of the flights. Here are a few tips and suggestions:

1.) You will need to have all your baby's documents in order. It is a good idea to keep a copy of her notarized birth certificate with you. Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up. Another thing you should consider bringing with you is your childs immunization book. That way if any emergency should arise while you are on vacation (no matter where you are) the treating physician will at least have some verifiable information to go on. This book also usually includes what your child is allergic to, and some small but very helpful notes from your doctor. Since it is an international trip, you will need a passport and possibly a visa for your child as well. Verify what travel documents you will need in advance to make sure you have everything.

2.) Since your child is under two, you are allowed to hold her as a lap child. Try to book a bulkhead (front) seat where you will have more room, and a bassinet. Bassinets are limited, and not available on every flight. If the bassinet is available (they can only be used in bulkhead seats) it will attach to the front wall for you to put your child in (however you can not use this during taxi, take-offs, landings, or turbulence).

This is not the safest way for a child to fly and the airlines recommend children under 40lbs have their own seat with a child safety device - a CRS (Child Restraint System) - because it is safe for the child (especially during turbulence), makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, will help your child sleep, and gives both of you the opportunity to relax a bit. A CRS is a hard-backed child or infant or child safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

In order to be certified for use on an airplane, the car seat has to met the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Check the labels on the side of your car restraint for a sticker (words will be printed in red) for verification that your seat is safe for airplane use. Almost all car seats pass this requirement.

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. You should call your airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats.

If you haven't booked a separate seat for your child, be nice on check-in and see if they can "block" the seat next to you. They will then only use it if they absolutely need it - giving you a free seat!

3.) You can take a stroller and gate check it (you can also do this with a care seat). It will not count towards your checked luggage. This means that you will be able to use it all the way up until the time that you board, and one of the handlers will take it from you at your departure gate, tag it, and put it in a special compartment for you. When you exit the plane, it will be waiting for you at the door as well.

4.) Not all children have a problem with the pressure changes in their ears. If yours does however you'll want to know how to help. For take-offs and landings (the WHOLE way up, and starting from the BEGINNING, or TOP of descent), the best ways to alleviate ear pressure are to:

*If your child is nursing, nurse her
*Give her something to drink (formula, water)
*Give her a pacifier to suck on
*Place hot damp towels (usually like the ones distributed to first and business class before take-off and landing to freshen up with - just ask a flight attendant for them) or paper towels that have been soaked in hot water and wrung out, at the bottom of two paper or styrofoam cups, then hold the cups over the ears
*Gently but with some pressure, rub her neck repeatedly from the chin to the base of the neck. This will cause a swallowing motion that will relieve pressure build-up in the ears.

5.) As long as your child is with you, you are able to take as much formula, breast milk, regular milk, juice and/or baby food that you will need for you child for the duration of the time you will spend in the airport and on the flight (as long as it is within reason). And no, you will NOT have to taste it - no matter what form you bring it in.

All that you must do is:

1. Separate the milk from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size (1 liter) zip-top bag.
2. Declare you have the items to one of the Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
3. Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening

New regulations also allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz (100ml), -OR- beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of yogurt, cheese, puddings, etc. with you also as long as they are in containers less than 3oz (100ml)

Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the Flight Attendants will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

6.) Keep your diaper bag well stocked with plenty of diapers, wipes, ointments and other essential things. Just remember the new law regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use. One thing I always like to carry with me is hand sanitizer! I always wipe the trays down with that (followed by a baby wipe) and use it for my kids after taking them to the bathroom (even though they wash their hands). I know that airplane bathrooms are not the cleanest, so that is why I try to be vigilant.

Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your child. You will need this in case she gets sick, spills something on herself, or in case your luggage gets lost. Bring any medications that you might need for your child should she get sick or that she takes regularly. Remember that if they are not prescription medications, the 3oz (100ml) rule applies to them and they must be kept in a clear plastic bag.

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well. I have also seen where it backfires; a parent gives their child a dose of Benedryl to make them sleep, but instead it gets the child more hyper and the parents get absolutely no rest on the flight (and neither does anyone else). Most young children will fall asleep on the plane due to the gentle vibrations.

You should be respectful of other passengers and always change your child's diaper in the restroom. They do have diaper bed changers in there, although they can be a little small. Usually the bathrooms with the diapers beds are the handicap ones (they usually tend to be toward the rear of the plane), so they tend to be a little bit bigger and it does help. I also know some people who say that instead of using the changing table, they say to put the toilet seat down, use the toilet as a seat for yourself, and lay the baby across your knee to change their diaper. To make it easier on yourself, make sure that you undress your baby so that she has just a diaper on while at your seat. Grab your diaper, wipes, and ointment or baby powder (whatever you use for changing your childs diaper) and head to the bathroom. This will help to make the procedure faster and easier. Try to change your childs diaper as close to boarding as possible. This will help to make you baby feel fresh and more comfortable for take-off (which could also mean less problems).

7.) Pack plenty of things to entertain your child. Books, small toys, a portable DVD player (be sure to bring extra batteries) or let her use your laptop (make sure it's fully charged) with a few movies is usually entertaining as well. Also be sure to pack one or two comfort things such as a favorite blankie or stuffed animal. I always bring a small pillow & blanket from home for my children (even now) because I know 100% that they are clean, and my children are accustomed to them.

My children bring along a Rose Art kit which is great! It has crayons, markers, coloring books, coloring sheets, & stickers that they can color. It definitely keeps them entertained! http://www.megabrands.com/en/products/description.php?product_id=1031&brand_id=36&cat=4&age=
I take the contents of the kit out of the box & place them in something a little travel pack. Here is what my sons looks like:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/2577667314/. - outside
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hassen/2577681352/ - inside

You can also play games like pat-a-cake, or I-spy, & tell stories to your child as well. If you tell a story, try to make it an interactive one where she has a part in it so she stays interested.

You might also consider going to the store & letting your child pick out a few inexpensive toys or other things that interest her to be used only once you are on the plane. Be sure to pick out a few toys without her seeing so that she has an extra surprise.

8.) Don't worry about what the other passengers are going to think or say should your baby cry. This will only add stress, which your child can pick up on, and it could make her cry longer and harder. Instead, just relax, and handle the situation like you would if you were at home. Most times the other passengers are very understandin

Which baby stroller I should Buy ?

I want to buy a good quality baby traveling set stroller. what's You recommendations..

Answer
Well... my first recommendation is to study the negatives to using a car seat as a carrying device outside of the car (that's what I think of when you say traveling set.) First is if you keep a baby in a car seat for long periods of time or leave them to sleep in it they are more likely (especially in the first 4 months) to have oxygen deprivation (they recommend your baby sleep on a flat surface, and you don't have a choice while in a car, but you do in a stroller.) Second is the more you take it out of the car the more likely something is to happen to the car seat so it's less effective in an accident. Third, the weight of a car seat plus baby is ridiculously high.

So then consider strollers. There are many that lay flat. The only negative to most of the strollers (in America anyway) are that most face away from mom/dad. Studies have shown that parents are less likely to engage with their children when they can't see their faces, and babies are less likely to laugh, make eye contact, talk, etc in a stroller facing away from the parents (forward facing.) You can find them though, especially if you live in the UK Prams are not uncommon or that terribly expensive. But, so long as you take the time to talk to your children and spend time face to face with them when you can, then you can work around that negative of a stroller so long as you keep them laying flat until they're old enough to sit up.

Another option is to think outside the box. Consider a chest carrier, wrap or sling. The Ergo and Moby Wrap are my favorites. There have never been any studies showing an oxygen deprivation moment in these (or most other carrying devices, except the weird slings that curled them up that were recalled.) And so long as baby is facing you then they are getting the face to face contact, hearing you talk more often, you are more likely to talk more often, getting rid of the developmental delays that happen when they don't get that enough. The Ergo goes to 40lbs, but the Moby Wrap is an easy one to use especially in the first 6-12 months until they are a good sitter then you can get a more lightweight and easy to use stroller. And as far as traveling, wearing your baby is a lot easier on busses, in airports, in malls, anywhere really, as opposed to a stroller.

So strollers I recommend. For newborn up, you need a laying flat one. Chicco strollers ALL lay down flat and many Graco do now as well. The Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe lays flat and is compatible with their car seat, and all Chicco carseats fit in their strollers, so there ya go. Though I wouldn't use them like that, those are what I would recommend if you want to go with a set. I'd recommend personally buying the car seat nice and a bit more expensive and just getting a Chicco stroller used though since they are almost never recalled and that gives you a bit better car seat for your buck. For about 2 months up, the jogging strollers (though you can't jog until they're older) are my favorites as they are thin, easy to maneuver, and can go through anything (gravel, snow, sidewalks, sand, grass, etc.) The Baby Trend joggers are my favorites because they're simple and rarely have recalls. The baby Trend also make car seats that fit on the strollers, but I HATE their car seat fastener system so try it out before you invest in that.

Baby stroller travel system grows with baby?

Erik7

Our first baby is due early June and we are in the market for baby stuff. I'm reading reviews on car seats, and we think we would like to get a stroller travel system for the convenience.

My question is:

Once our baby outgrows the infant seat, is there another baby seat that will fit into these strollers? I'm kinda confused about that. In the videos I've seen about these strollers, a 2 or 3 year old is shown riding in the stroller without the baby car seat. So what does the baby ride in in between infant and 2 years old? is there another car seat that i need to buy that will attach to the stroller?

This is one of the travel systems we are looking at.

Thanks,

Answer
We skipped the 'travel system' and went with a stroller that reclines flat for a newborn. (chicco cortina). And we bought a good convertible to fit our tiny 5 pound newborn.

Infant car seats can be outgrown as early as 6 months of age. You cannot put convertible seats in a stroller, they stay in the car. And after about 5-6 months please put baby in the stroller to see their world. Nothing worse than seeing a baby that age struggling to look around, only to give up because they are strapped in a car seat (that should have stayed in the car). Plus, babies that age are too f darn heavy to lug around in those seats! Also, the bigger the baby the higher level of injury risk
for baby when those seats are used outside the car.

The 'travel system' stroller will allow you to put baby in at a certain age depending on recline, and can be used without the car seat. This stroller also reclines flat according to the website, so you can use this without the car seat for a newborn. You can even buy just the stroller, and not as a set.

Our lil guys were all out seeing the world as tiny babies, carried in ring slings and not some plastic bucket. After a couple of trips. baby gets used to the routine of getting in and out of the car and falling back asleep. We used the sling, or laid them flat in the stroller. Car seats are for cars, not for carrying babies.
