Steph

My son is 13 months old now, we currently have a mamas and papas zoom pushchair. I am wanting to get something a little lighter and smaller now.

I want a 3 wheeler type with preferably a straight bar for pushing not the single handles but am open to suggestions :)

Thank you x

Answer
I recently puchased the Britax b agile travel system stroller and i must say it was a great choice, my wife loves it beacause it's ease to cary and fold and it is very confortable for the baby. The car seat is prety good.

does anyone own the Mamas and Papas pliko+ pushchair?

Girlygiggl

I'm looking into purchasing this Pliko+ pushchair and i was wondering if anyone has had it. i know you can buy the pram liner to change the pushchair into a pram, this really appeals to me as it grows with baby. ive read a few reviews on it and it seems particulary good. im also wondering about the silver cross 3D, so anyone who has had an experience with the pliko+ or mamas and papas in general i would be very grateful to hear from you. thank you

Answer
Hiya! Im due to give birth anyday... I have brought the mamas and papas pliko pramette. I put it up on friday and have been having a play with it. Its FANTASTIC!!! Also i have brought the carseat to match with the base. So its easy to go in and out of the car. You can also use the car seat on the pram base to make it a travel system. I perfer using just the pram myself. Its a pleasure to push!
My best friend had the sliver cross but i think the mamas and papas is alot nicer.

Good luck!
Jen :)

is it ok to pick my baby up from the hospitaln with moses basket?

baby travel systems in uk image

Anita

i bought travel system which comes with an infant car seat when i was pregnant, i live in the uk but went to my parents for holiday and went into labour (premature). my travel system is in the uk and am in italy. my mum had already bought moses basket as a gift for me. and am wondering if i can pick her up with it, as she will be coming home soon.

Answer
I know when I left hospital they never checked whether my daughter was in an approved car seat or not, she was but they didn't check however irrespective of the hospital the law in Italy is that any child under 4 must be in an approved car seat if in a vehicle so if you are in a car of any sort you need a car seat but you are going to need one in any case as you will need to get to the embassy to sort out her passport to get her home and then to get to the airport when you are on your way home. You need to source a car seat.

Do you have to pay extra to take a push chair on a plane?

Anon

I will be traveling from the UK to Ireland with Aer Lingus soon, I will be bringing my baby and will obviously need to take the pushchair with me, I have a travel system which is the stroller with a car seat attached, will I have to pay extra to bring it with me? Thanks!

Answer
No, they won't. But why go through all that extra trouble of lugging that around? I used a travel system with my first daughter until I said, "NO MORE! It's too bulky!" And got a sling. Your hands are free, the weight of the baby is dispersed in a way that you don't feel the added weight on yourself, and you won't be struggling with everything. Just stow the travel system away with the rest of your luggage in the cargo hold, that way you can still take it with your for the trip but not have to worry about it taking up so much space on the passenger part of the plane.

Answer
We have a system made by Baby Trend. It was the Expedition LE jogging stroller that also had a car seat that lifted out and could be put into a base in the car. The base was LATCH compatible, so it stayed in the car while we could pop the baby in and out.

I had offered to give a friend who's having a baby a used traveling system?

one person

It's a baby trend expedition jogger & infant carrier with baby seat. It's been sitting in the garage for 1 yr & when I took it out to clean it up for her I noticed it was a little dinged up on the foot rest & a bit on the snack tray. Now I remember I scratched it the first day I used it shoving it into my car & then it was burried in the garage so it's accumulated some more scratches. My question is do you think she'd mind? I feel bad cause she didn't register for a stroller cause I was going to give her this one & although we cleaned it it's not in PERFECT condition.

Answer
she knows its used and probably doesnt expect it to be in perfect condition, maybe allow her too look at it and decide if she wants it

Ok i am US citizen and have gf in canada which get pregnant and we have beautiful baby girl, can i bring my baby to visit her grandma into US,will i be in trouble? And what are the requirements in order to get in here in US, she is 1 week old now.

Answer
Are you going by Air? If so then the baby would require a Passport, it should also be 6 weeks old before it starts flying so that it does have a better immune system.

If you are traveling by Land or Sea then the baby would require the birth certificate, nothing more than that.

You yourself need a Passport, Passport ID card, NEXUS card to go by Air. If going by land or sea then the same or and Enhanced Driver's License.

Anyway you are traveling if the mother is not with you then you will require a Power of Attorney to cross the border without the other parent. She will need one as well to travel without you.

At what age can you use an umbrella stroller instead of the big bulky travel system?

babybugs19

My boy is 11 weeks old and sits up well in his big Graco stroller but it reclines a fair amount. What are your thoughts about the umbrella strollers? I really need something light and small for keeping in the house, getting the other stroller in and out is a pain! Should I get one now or wait? Should I get one with a 5 point harness (do they have those?) or just normal buckles?

Answer
I started using an umbrella stroller at 3 months but I could of started earlier. Zellers (in Canada) sells really nice 5 point harness reclining umbrella stroller for little babies. Its super light and easy to take anywhere.

baby travel systems at target image

SweetBabyC

My son is 9 months and now im expecting another one. Im going to just sell his travel system and get a new one. So that means i need to find a double stroller that comes with an infant seat. Ive been looking everywhere and cant seem to find one. Does anyone know where i could buy one?

Answer
You should be able to find new ones at any store that sells baby items... Target, Walmart, Baby Depot, Babies R Us, etc. or you can check online. For big purchase items many online stores have free shipping.

If you are looking for used check craigslist and your local newspaper ads. Once garage sale season starts you can also check the garage sale ads every weekend for ones that list double strollers... just be sure to get there soon after they open because they go quick! You can also call around to local stores that sell used children's items (like Once Upon A Child) to see if they have any or if they would put you on a waiting list when one comes in. Another option is just to ask around at work or among your mom friends to see if anyone has one sitting in their garage that they'd like to sell.

We use ours all the time for our baby and toddler and it is great for the mall and the park! If you can't find used, buying new can be spendy but I think they are worth it and they have a fair resale value when you want to get rid of it.

Help getting a stroller and car seat?

Anna

I want to buy a car seat and stroller togeather as a travel system. I looked at walmart, baby depot, babies r us, and target and can't find a neutral one that I like. ANy Ideas where I can find one?

Answer
You can't find a system you like or just a design you like. You can always find a system you like and get a carseat cover. Check out e-bay. They have tons of them. Some of the stores on their will let you pick out the colors and fabrics. We just bought 2 for our unborn twins.

Do they make travel system strollers with the 3 big wheels?

baby travel systems 3 wheel image

Adriana

My husband is insistant on having a stroller with the big wheels, and this is the only travel system one I have found.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2991668

It doesn't have very good reviews though, so I'm hesitant to buy it.
This is the ONLY one at babiesRus, that's why I asked the question.

Answer
That is the stroller and carseat that we purchased before our son was born. He is now 10 months old and we still use the stroller but he has outgrown the carseat. We really like both of them (purchased separately at Target). The only complaint I have is that the carseat is a little heavy and our baby was on the higher side in weight so it was a lot to carry around. I think it weighs about 9 pounds on its own.

Has anyone flown from US to Asia with a 1 year old baby?

Cathy

I am flying from NYC to Taipei and they are telling me that the bassinet (which I thought was required for children under 2 if we are not buying a full ticket) is only recommended for infants 5 months or younger. So China Airlines recommended me to hold my baby which I don't think is reasonable because our flight was 19-20 hours!!! Can you please share your experiences with me please?

Answer
I've done many long haul flights with my three children (since each was 4 months old) and I used to work trans-Pacifics as a Flight Attendant. I usually fly between Europe and California with them.

The bassinet is never required and actually not all airplanes have them. On Lufthansa once, they told me my year old son was too big for the bassinet. When I showed up for the flight, turns out he was well under the weight limit! Not sure what to say about the subject but different airlines have different style bassinets with different weight limits. They are convenient but safety-wise, no replacement for a car seat.

If you don't have a seat for him, request it at check-in. Ask if the flight is full, and if not, they can "block" the seat next to you, only using it if they really need it. They often do this for families.

Bring the seat to the gate, even if they are unsure that you'll get a free seat. This way, if you don't manage it, they will "gate check" your seat, sending it down with the strollers and wheelchairs. This is gentlier than checking it in at the desk.

I also recommend trying to sit at the bulkhead. These are the seats with the wall in front, located in different places depending on the aircraft. Bulkheads are easier with children since no one is leaning in front of you.

If you have a travel system, you can use the stroller until you get to the door of the aircraft and then it'll be "gate checked". If not, use a stroller frame for a infant seat. You'll have it again, by the door of the aircraft when you arrive. If you have a convertible car seat (going to 40lbs), there are a number of contraptions you can use to wheel it around.

http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html
(not promoting any of these sites, just to show you the products!)

I simply strap mine to a small metal luggage cart and that works great.

If you do have a stroller, bring a bungee cord and double secure it before leaving it at the door of the plane. They can get damaged if they pop open en route. Make sure the claim ticket can be seen and isn't squished or hidden.

Bring at least 1/3 more diapers than you think you'll need. I saw so many parents run out on flights when I was working! Wrap them in plastic bags and throw a bunch of rubber bands around them to save room in your carry-on.

For a formula fed baby, I really recommend using the bottles with plastic liners. Traditional bottles are too difficult to wash onboard because of the kind of sinks on airplanes. I premeasured the powder and rolled them up, placing the rolls in a ziplock bag. Then you throw the liners away as you use them and only have the ring and nipple to clean.

If you use bottled water, be sure to give yourself enough time to buy some once you're past security. Make sure you have enough! The water on the aircraft is filtered tap so decide if you're comfortable using that for your baby. Bottled water runs out fast on flights and we never had any extra for baby bottles.

Be sure you baby does not need the bottle warmed. Get him used to a room-temperature bottle before leaving. This is unnecessary health-wise and a real pain to do while travelling. I warmed many bottles on my flights but I wasn't there in the check-in line, the security line or the waiting area! Babies do great with room-temperature bottles.

Make sure you have at least one change of clothes. I would bring two. At that age, I simply dressed mine in sleep suits for flying. No one will care so keep him comfortable. Bring extra socks if he crawls so that he doesn't pick up anything nasty on the floor and to keep his hands clean.

Hopefully you have a good baby carrier. They're so useful for flying, especially at this age. I had a sling but other parents swear by their wraps and pouches. The Ergo is another popular carrier for travel. I liked the sling because I could slide my babies from into and out of a stroller or car seat without waking them. It also doubled as a blanket, baby changer and sunshade! My sling was magic for calming my babies during the flight. Other parents wanted one when they saw how easy it made my travels. Avoid front packs like the Bjorn since they're so bad for both the parents' and child's back. A good carrier should go to at least age 2.

Many flying tips say to make the child suck on something or drink during take-off and landing. This isn't accurate. ENT specialists say to have the child awake about an hour before landing (top of descent, landing or touch-down is too late).

http://www.entcda.com/AAOHNSF/earsandaltitude.htm

I can confirm that is when I saw problems at work. Take your child to the doctor in the last few days before you fly to make sure his ears are clear and infection-free. Heathy ears can handle pressurization changes.

About 8 years ago I wrote an article for a local expat newsletter (after getting a lot of questions on this subject). I later put it on a blog and parents from all over the world have contributed. It's entirely non-commercial and my contact info is at the end if you have additional questions.

I had an employer in UK , she wantedme to work w/ her household and to take good care of her children. we meet here in net, and we sometime exchange email message. What will I do? Do i have the chance to work w/ her soon? What visa i ned to use for my travelling. ?

Answer
You will need both a visa and a work permit. Contact the nearest UK Embassy for advice.

The UK has recently introduced a points system (similar to the USA and Australia) so it has become harder to get a work permit unless you have skills that are in demand.

Good Luck

I would like to know more about health care. Could we have socialized medicine?

Jackie

Is there a way everyone could be taxed like Canada or England for socialized medicine and health care?

Answer
Hmm. We have socialized medicine in Australia too. If I had a heart attack, was airlifted to a cardiac unit, had a triple by-pass and was hospitalised for a month, then discharged with meds - I'd pay -----
absolutely NOTHING. The active word there is SOCIALIST which the US seems to be paranoid. There is a downside to this system of course - there can be long waiting lists for treatment, you do not have your choice of doctor and you have to go to a public (eg government owned hospital). We have private health cover as well. Since it is so expensive, a lot of people with insurance use the public hospitals, which leads to over crowding. The government here is now means testing income, so this does not occur. My father was a travel agent and would advise clients who travelled to the US to get the first plane back to Australia if they were ill (obviously, they couldn't if the illness was severe). I have even heard of pregnant women flying to Australia to have their babies - because as I said, it's free. It sounds like you have seen the film `Sicko` by Michael Moore - I was horrified by it, no one should have to pay for cancer treatment. It is a cruel system, set up for profit.

What baby items did you find to be the most & least useful?

baby travel systems second hand on Jane Slalom Reverse Travel System

Malia's Mo

We just spent 2 hours in Babies R Us registering for my baby shower and we have over 200 items. I know I'm not going to get everything, and it was mainly just to show various gift options, but what items are absolute musts and what items can wait? This is my first baby so I haven't been able to test anything out yet. Thank you! =)

Answer
well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the end of the brush, they come in diff colors mixed with white and have a great nip brush in the handles....
drying racks--again, i really like munchkins...
formula mixer: i like dr brown's formula pitcher bc you don't shake it it is only abo

What should I put on my baby Registry?

Kckckc

Im only 19 weeks pregnant but I was thinking about my baby registry.
Im not going to Register now but when i do what should I put on it?
This is my first child so i don't want to leave anything out.

Answer
Diapers: Whether you're going the re-usable or disposable route, you'll need plenty on hand.
Burp cloths (fabric diapers can also double as burp cloths).
Disposable wipes. Always have a few packets on hand -- this is not an item you want to run out of.Diaper rash cream
Diaper pail: Choose one that you can operate with one hand, one that uses regular garbage bags, and has an odor control system.
Diaper bag: Make sure it hangs well from your stroller handlebars.
Baby monitor
1 or 2 pacifiers, if you want to use them. Be sure to get ones labeled "newborn."
Portable crib, commonly known as a Pack 'n Play, for when you visit the grandparents.
Co-sleeper. It's so nice to just reach over to nurse your baby at night. But you can easily substitute the portable crib if it's easier.
6 bottles, including nipples: Make sure you buy nipples for newborns.
Bottle brush
Breast pump: Go for the fancy automatic double pump if you're going back to work.
Breastfeeding pillow
Nursing pads
Lanolin lotion for sore nipples
Breast milk freezer bags or storage cups
Thermometer. The rectal kind. Don't be freaked out -- once you do it, it's a piece of cake.
Nasal bulb syringe for clearing stuffy noses
Baby nail clipper
Alcohol swabs and bandages
Infant bath tub or seat with a newborn "sling"
Baby shampoo and cleanser
Baby lotion
2 to 3 hooded towels that let you swaddle baby post-bath
Crib
Changing table with pad (you can also covert an existing dresser by topping with a pad)
Rocking chair
ExerSaucer. You won't use it for a few months, but once your baby hits 4 or 5 months, it will blow his little mind.
Swing or bouncy seat. The movement makes almost all babies very, very sleepy.
Activity mat (also called the baby gym)
Mobile for the crib: Think music, lights and movement. We like ones you can turn off remotely.
Mobile for the changing table: Distract your baby from the fact that his bum is cold.
Crib bumper
2 to 3 fitted crib sheets
2 waterproof mattress pads
2 or 3 changing pad covers
A rear-facing infant car seat with base. If you have two cars, you'll need a second base.
Baby carrier and/or sling
Stroller: Baby won't sit up for a few months, so you'll need a Snap 'n Go, a travel system or a model in which baby can fully recline.
A "take-me-home" outfit. Look for a set that's cute for photos, but practical (something warm for winter or light for summer).
6 to 8 onesies, half short sleeve and half long sleeve. Choose kimono styles that don't pull over baby's head to cut down on screams.
5 pairs of pants
6 to 8 sleepers (aka coveralls) with built-in footies, or rompers if it's spring or summer
5 to 6 sleeping gowns, which snap5 to 6 sleeping gowns, which snap, zip, or cinch closed at the bottom, making late-night diaper changes a breeze.
At least 3 sleeping gowns should have built-in mittens to cover fast-growing baby fingernails and avoid scratches on smooth baby skin.
1 to 3 sweater cardigans or zip hoodies, depending on the season
1 snowsuit or winter bunting (for winter babies)
1 to 2 pairs of mittens if they aren't included in the snowsuit (for winter babies)
8 pairs of booties or socks
4 to 6 hats, including at least one sun hat
4 to 6 receiving blankets. One should be soft and thick enough to be a blankie contender; two should be thin enough for your diaper bag.
4 to 6 bibs. At least two should be waterproof. Once baby starts solids, you'll need something you can just hose off.
Velcro swaddle. This crucial miracle item may be the key to peace in your household.
Sleep sac, for when baby outgrows the swaddle or sleep gowns, but is still too young for a blanket in the crib.

Thats pretty much EVERYTHING. You wont need all of it though (: goodluck

If you sold your used Travel System how much did you charge?

baby travel systems under 200 on Travel System by Hauck Under 300 with Next day Delivery | Travel ...
baby travel systems under 200 image

Mama <3

I am selling my Baby Trend Gabriella travel system. This thing was expensive! We bought it new and its in great condition but it is used. So we paid nearly $400 for the set! I was thinking $75? It this reasonable?

Thanks!
I must add its in perfect condition. I washed the pads and wiped it down. There isnt a mark or stain on it!

Answer
When selling my no longer wanted, used items. I tend to divide the new retail price in half, and then move it up or down according to condition.

$75 is a steal, but you don't want to go too much higher, as those looking for used, will buy a cheaper system brand new, rather than pay more for a pricier used model.

I'd probably list it around $125, as it's worth more than $75, but I'm just not certain you could get the full $200 for it, when you can buy a cheaper set up, brand new for under $200.

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?

highgoals2

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?
I live in northern Indiana. I can order online (for stores that offer online purchases)

Answer
Things to consider. Why? I mean, except for transporting your baby in the car, a car seat should not be used for things like riding in the stroller, or on shopping carts, or things like that. It comes from the studies done in the last year or so that shows that a baby left to sleep or sit in an inclined position for too long can get into an oxygen lowered state. Ie, it's not good for them to be in an inclined position like a car seat for longer than 2 hours full in a day, until they're older than about 6 months old.

Now, since recalls done on strollers are far less than recalls done on car seats, you can get the stroller from someone selling second-hand (just doublecheck recall lists) and get a better car seat. The Chicco brand stroller, for instance, lays flat, making it usable from newborn on up. :) On Ebay, I can see a few for under $100 (make sure they say fully reclining.) I'm sure you could find some at Craigslist as well. :) Otherwise, you could consider using a baby chest carrier for the first few months until your baby is old enough (3-6 months) to sit at a slight incline, then you can get a stroller that nearly reclines all the way.

If you do that, my favorite travel system is the Baby Trend, at least to recommend to people. It's under $200, the car seat is one of the top safety rated (though the buckles are a pain in the neck I'll warn you now), and the stroller is a jogger that you can use as a stroller. I LOVE ours. They recline far enough back for about 2+months, so I wouldn't put a newborn in it, but if you can last the 2 months then it lasts to 40lbs. Only negative is that the basket is only rated to carry 5lbs, so you can't bring a huge diaper bag with you (or if you do you have to carry it.)

Shoot though. If you're dead set on a travel system, you can always find someone selling the stroller that goes with a travel system, buy that for a cheaper price, and then use the rest of the money to get the car seat, and get it cheaper that way. But I'm not a fan of travel systems. To me it seems like it ropes folks into thinking a baby should sleep in the car seat and it's just not safe.

I Need some serious advice!!! I will soon be traveling 8 hours on a plane for the first time with my three year old daughter. Please can anyone give some advice on how to make this smoother and simpler for me and my child. Also how can i help lessen the pain and pressure on a three year olds ears during take off and landing thanksss to hear from you all.

Answer
I've been flying internationally with my children since they were 2 months (now 7&5), and here are some tips and advice that have always worked for me:

1.)Since you already have to buy a seat for your daughter, I advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System) because it is safe for the child, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, and gives you the opportunity to relax a bit.

A CRS is an airline-approved alternative to using a hard-backed seat and is approved for use on aircraft and for use in motor vehicles. Many people confuse it with a regular car seat, which it is not.

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. Parents should call their airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats.

Ask your airline if they can provide a CRS for your child. If so, you may not be permitted to bring your own CRS on board, and may need to check it as baggage.

2.) The best time of day to fly is whenever you are comfortable. If you can find a flight that will take off around your childs nap or bedtime, that would be easier, but of course we all know it doesn't always work out that way. The main thing is that you pick a day that you are comfortable with and try to be as relaxed as possible because your daughter will be able to pick up on any anxiousness or anxiety you might have.

3.) For take-offs and landings, the best thing you can do is give her a drink (milk, water, juice - it doesn't matter) or a pacifier.

New regulations allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz, OR beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food onto the plane with you. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the stewards/stewardess' will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

Another trick is that if your daughter is not taking to the pacifier or wanting to drink, gently rub her neck from the chin down to the chest several times - this will cause a swallowing motion which will help with the ears popping.

4.) Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your daughter. A few of her favorite toys, books, a portable DVD player and one or two movies if you have one, and any comfort things such as a blankie. The Fa's will also provide you with a toy or coloring book for your daughter also.

5.)Take your daughter to the store and buy her a small carry-on bag of her choice. Let her pick out a few new (but inexpensive) toys that will be used only once she is on the plane. Be sure to buy a few without her knowing so she will have a surprise when she opens up her bag.

6.) Pack a few instant hot/cold cereals, instant rice, and other just-add-water packets (age appropriate, of course). The stewards/stewardess' will provide you with hot or cold water upon request. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food and a few other non-perishable snack items. Dried fruit make a wonderful snack (and they're healthy too!). Drinks will be provided free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request.

7.) Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your daughter. You will need this in case she gets sick, spills something on herself, or in case your luggage gets lost. Also bring any medications that you might need for her should she get sick. Do NOT give your daughter medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well.

8.) Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it.

I hope you have a great trip, and if I can be of any more assistance, please feel free to contact me.

1.) You will need to have all your babys documents in order. Generally do not need an ID for a child when traveling domestically, but it is always good to keep a notarized copy of her birth certificate with you. There is no other special ID you will need for her to get on the plane other than her ticket. Verify what travel documents you will need in advance to make sure you have everything.

2.) Since your daughter is at an age where you have to buy her a seat, I advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System) because it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, and gives both of you the opportunity to relax a bit.

7.) If you still use a diaper bag, be sure to keep it well stocked with plenty of diapers, wipes, ointments and other essential things. Baby nail clippers and scissors are not allowed though. Just remember the new regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use.

8.) Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up.

Also it is a good idea to have a check-up with your doctor before leaving to make sure your child is healthy enough to fly. If she has even a slight cold, the pressure in her ears during take-off and landing (even if you do the precaution methods) could leave his ears aching for days after the flight.

Most doctors recommend that if anyone is sick (such as being stuffed up or already having an earache), not to take the flight because of the potential damage to the ears. I know my husband and other pilots do not work if they are sick because of this danger.

9.) Bring any medications that you might need for your child should she get sick or that she takes regularly. Remember that if they are not prescription medications, the 3oz rule applies to them and they must be kept in a clear plastic bag.

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well.

10.) Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it.
