Can you claim Job Seekers Allowance if you only want a part time job?

I have a 9 month old baby so would prefer to work part time - I am entitled to job seekers allowance but have first interview tomorrow and was wondering whether they will want me to look for full time work?

Answer
I hope this is what you are looking for;

Jobseeker's Allowance is a state benefit in the United Kingdom paid to people over the age of 18 years -- although there are circumstances when a 16- or 17-year-old can claim, mainly if estranged from their family -- who are looking for work or who work less than 16 hours a week on average. It is part of the U.K. social security benefits system and is intended to cover the living costs of the claimant. It is paid by the government Department for Work and Pensions and provides fortnightly cash payments as well as some additional benefits.

Types
There are two types of Jobseeker's Allowance: contributions-based Jobseeker's Allowance and income-based Jobseeker's Allowance. The first is provided to individuals who have previously paid sufficient National Insurance contributions (a tax, usually taken at source when working, that also goes towards your state pension). It is granted regardless of assets. Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance is for those who do not qualify for the contributions-based benefit. It is means-tested, taking into account individuals' savings and the income of their household.

Money
As of 2011, contributions-based Jobseeker's Allowance pays a weekly rate of £51.85 to those ages 16 to 24 years and £65.45 to those ages 25 years or older. For income-based Jobseeker's Allowance the rates are £51.85 for single people under 25 years and lone parents ages 18 and under; £65.45 for single individuals ages 25 years or older and lone parents ages 18 or older; £102.75 for a couple or civil partnership where both members are 18 or older. These rates are paid fortnightly to claimants by bank transfer.

Information
To claim Jobseeker's Allowance, individuals must demonstrate that they have been actively looking for work. Claimants meet with a Jobcentre Plus adviser on a fortnightly basis to assess the claimant's job search. The adviser has up-to-date information regarding possible vacancies suitable for the claimant and can advise on conducting a job search. He may also refer the claimant to relevant courses that might help her. Jobcentre Plus also provides newspapers and Internet access for job seekers to utilize.

Training
Jobcentre Plus also gives those looking for employment access to training programs. These programs are run either by Jobcentre Plus or outside agencies subsidized by the government. Such courses range from computer and interview skills to assistance with creating a curriculum vitae or résumé. In some cases, particularly after an individual has been receiving Jobseeker's Allowance for six months or more, such courses may become compulsory.

Complementary Benefits
Individuals who receive income-based Jobseeker's Allowance may also qualify for additional benefits. These include housing and council tax benefit, exemption from prescription charges, assistance with travel fares for attending hospital appointments, free NHS (National Health Service) dental treatment and free school meals for dependent children. All these benefits will be, like the Jobseeker's Allowance itself, means-tested and the level of each an individual receives will depend upon their assets and household earnings.

Two of my friends have purchased recently about 3 months ago. One of them brought it for 250 from amazon and other for 150 from babies r us. But now those deals are not there and they are selling around 300$ or something. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks for taking time and answering my question

Answer
I can tell you that no matter w hat you pay, it is worth every penny! I used this with my youngest child, and am now expecting another and will be using it again. It is AWESOME and I highly recommend it. Ours has been heavily used and is still in excellent condition.

Depending on when you are due, I would simply watch the prices at the various retailers (site and online). Look for coupons- I regularly get them for 20% off any one item for Babies R Us. You might also check the Baby Depot at Burlington Coat Factory, as they usually have great prices.

How many weeks were you when you starting buying all your baby clothes, dummies, pram, cot, bedding etc?? Or when do you think is a suitable time? Thanks in advance!

Answer
I bought a couple small things early on just to make it feel a little more real that I was pregnant. We didn't start buying anything else until we found out that we were having a girl at 18 weeks. After that we started buying some clothes and other things. We bought the stroller/car seat travel system around 20 weeks and a pack and play as well. We also started buying diapers as they're on sale and we're at the point now where we have almost everything we need short of the crib and a few small items which I'm sure we'll get at our baby shower. I'd say once you find out what the baby's sex is is a good time to start buying.

Can anyone recommend a cheap twin buggy suitable for newborn twins?

Sarah

I am pregnant with twins and I have been searching the internet for prams for newborn twins they are all sooo expensive does anyone know of a cheap side by side carrycot twin pram or one with 2 carrycots? As this is doing my head in :) thanks in advance ...Sarah

Answer
First wheels city twin do a good twin pushchair, it can be used with carry cots and maxi cosi car seats to make it a travel system. Brand new it will cost £429.99 but that is only for the pram from kiddies kingdom it will cost £134.95 to purchase the carrycots. The seat units can face both ways which is great for when the babies have grown out their carrycots it means they can still face you.

http://www.kiddies-kingdom.com/ProductsDetails.aspx?item_id=488#

If you want a bargain then have a look on ebay, you will find the exact same pushchair but with all the accesories for a good price

Good luck xx

P.S. My best friend has this pram for her twins and loves it.

If you sold your used Travel System how much did you charge?

Mama <3

I am selling my Baby Trend Gabriella travel system. This thing was expensive! We bought it new and its in great condition but it is used. So we paid nearly $400 for the set! I was thinking $75? It this reasonable?

Thanks!
I must add its in perfect condition. I washed the pads and wiped it down. There isnt a mark or stain on it!

Answer
When selling my no longer wanted, used items. I tend to divide the new retail price in half, and then move it up or down according to condition.

$75 is a steal, but you don't want to go too much higher, as those looking for used, will buy a cheaper system brand new, rather than pay more for a pricier used model.

I'd probably list it around $125, as it's worth more than $75, but I'm just not certain you could get the full $200 for it, when you can buy a cheaper set up, brand new for under $200.

For how many years is a typical baby travel system safe?

Erika B

We have an almost 4 yr old and are due with our second child in 5 months. We have everything we need, but a friend warned me against using our carseat and stroller again, becuase it may be out of safety regulation being almost 4 yrs old. It's a Chicco KeyFit 30, and had great safety ratings when we purchased it. Any one know typically how many years a travel system is good for?

Answer
Most car seat brands are 6 years from the date of manufacture. The KeyFit 30 is still considered to be a great seat. Flip it over and look for a "do not use after" date stamped into the shell. Once you're sure it's not expired, use the model number off the seat to search for a recall- for any seat. For the KeyFit, Chicco has only had one recall since 2001 and I don't think your seat was produced between the dates for the recall, here it is http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/childseat.cfm#mfg_anchor

Our budget means we are unable to buy a seat for him and are considering reserving a baby bassinet seat. Question is are these seats safe and comfortable?

Anyone out there experienced the same thing?

Thanks

G

Answer
What do you mean by "safe"?

Will it support the weight of your child? Most likely. Each airline uses different bassinets, which means there is no standard sizing. There are height and weight restrictions, but because every airlines bassinet is different, those vary from airline to airline. Also, some airline put an age limit on them (10months seems to be the norm for those who have it). You will need to check on that. Some airline even mandate that a child can only use the bassinet while sleeping. Once the child is awake s/he must be taken out of the bassinet.

If you are asking will the bassinet protect your child? No. In fact, bassinets must be taken down and stowed away for taxi, takeoff, turbulence, descent, and landing. Bassinets do not have any system for restraining the child.

Bassinets usually attach to a bulkhead, lavatory or galley wall right in front of the parent's seat (in the bulkhead rows).

http://www.erieaviation.com/images/Baby-bassinet.jpg
On some British Airways planes they rest on a table that folds down from the wall.
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9398/img0506hs3.jpg
http://daddytypes.com/archive/twin_airplane_bassinets.jpg
Airlines even use just over sized boxes that a parent can place on the floor. http://www.averyflight.co.uk/images/AmSafe-p9_02.gif
http://www.averyflight.co.uk/images/AmSafe-p9_01.gif

The very first time I traveled with my eldest I used an airline bassinet (I didn't know better). For the trip from Europe to the US I was given the cardboard box that goes on the floor to put her in. I didn't like it because it was too easy for other passengers to drop something on her.

For the flight back from the US to Europe I was given a bassinet that attaches the the bulkhead wall. While it was better then the box, it was still easy for people to push into when they were walking to/from the bathrooms, and this would cause the bassinet to sway (which of course worried me that it would fall).

If you do choose to use a bassinet make sure that you position your child so their feet are towards the aisles that way is anyone inadvertently bumps them, no real damage done.

If you haven't booked a separate seat for your child, be nice on check-in and see if they can "block" the seat next to you. They will then only use it if they absolutely need it. This way you can get a seat for your child free so you can have him/her secured in a car seat. (but only if it is available, and that won't be know until last minute).

I've been flying internationally and domestically with my children since they were 2 months (now 8, 6, & 3 months). At least three trips a year are the children and I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. In addition to that, we do another 8-10 international and domestic flights a year as a family. I have never had any problems with my children on any of the flights.

I wrote a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives security rules and regulations for the US, EU, UK, and Australia, offers tips and tricks for the travel, etc. http://www.angelfire.com/jamiehassen79/flying_children.html

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

has any one got any tips about flying on KLM with an infant (4 mts) from Hongkong to heathrow?

puzzeled U

both mum and daughter are first time flyers, what are the amminaties available. shell be flying on mums lap. do i need to book anything extra for thier flight, or will KLM take care of things? has anyone got any tips about feeding carla without all the men gawping at her? any help would be very welcome. unforutanalty I canot afored to fly out to collect them, are there any facilities for making sure she gets the right flights when she changes? are there any escorts? thanks ....

Answer
First when you book you need to specify Infant in Arms. For international flights, you will still have to pay a percentage of an adults fare. If she is going to breastfeed in flight, just make sure she gets a window seat and uses a blanket to cover herself. There are no additional services provided for traveling with children usually on any airline.

Tips for flying with children: At check-in, advise the ticket agent she will be flying "Infant in Arms" it must be documented in the record. Secondly, the agent may ask her name and birtdate. She will still need her passport though. Most likely being an infant she will still have her own ticket even though she is a lap child. Not sure if KLM is E-Ticketed from HKG-LHR. Also advise the ticket agent that she is a first time flier and will may require assistance with connections. Most agents, no matter the airline, are willing to assist people in finding their connections, especially mothers with children. There are codes to add in the reservation for all of this. For this, it's called "Meet and Assist". If the flight is not totally full and there is are two empty seats, she is welcome to bring the infant carrier seat onboard. It is also much safer and recommended by the FAA for all children to be strapped in, just like in a car. So, if she has a travel system (stoller car seat combo) take it to the gate and have her speak to the gate agent. Ask the agent if there are any empty seats so that she can have the baby sit in a seat rather than her lap. That way if there is turbulance or the captain has to stop short or lands hard, the baby is secure. The do offer in most cases an infant fare so that she will definately have a seat. It's a long flight and her arms will be ready to give out by then. The stoller can be tagged at the gate and put in the bulk bin and returned to her in the Jetway upon arrival at her connection point and destination. Let her know that she can also request pre-boarding. Most airlines will allow pre-boarding for handicapped and families travelling with small children. Just advise her to check in as soon as she gets to the gate and have her stoller tagged. Once she gets to the end of the jetway to board the aircraft, she will need to have the stoller folded down. If her hands are full the gate agents or flight attendants should be willing to assist. Just make sure she asks to preboard so that she's not trying to do all of this with 200 people behind her.

I highly recommend going to the airport websites that she will be travelling through, Hong Kong and the trasnfer point. Print them out so that she will have them and be familiar with where she needs to go. If she has time to study the maps and know where things are...bathrooms, restaurants and her gates, she will know a good idea of where she is going. Also, while looking at the airport website, type in her flight numbers as if they were today. See where they will be arriving and departing from as of today. Most flights arrive and depart at the same gates, or with in a few, every day. Being International Flights it should be pretty consistant. Even if the gates change by a few, she will still know the area.

(I know this is long) On landing and take off, she should have the baby drink a bottle, if she is bottle feeding, or suck a pacifier. It will help keep the babies ears equalized. It is not uncommon for infants to suffer a perferated ear drum because they can not equilize their ears. My nephew was adopted from China and on the flight to the US, his ear drum ruptured. They heal, but it happens. But as I said, again...if there are empty seats please have the baby in the infant seat strapped in. There have been instances of rough air and the planes do become unsteady and flight attendants have been known to hit the cabin ceiling. Not to make you nervous, but you can never predict rough air and its safer, just like in a car, to have the baby restrained.

They will be fine. Just educate yourself on the procedures for flying with children. Go to KLM's website and find the section on flying with chilren. Doesnt really say much about procedures like I told you. Im an agent with an airline in the US, so these are common practice here.

Can infant car seats rest on any stroller?

baby travel systems recall on Mega-Liquidation - Canada's Baby Store
baby travel systems recall image
Q. I've been looking at these Travel System stroller/car seat combo kits, and I haven't actually gone to the store yet. I'm just wondering, do you have to buy the travel system together, or could you buy the car seat and stroller separately? Would they still work together? I'm only asking because I thought I could ask for them as a baby shower gift. Instead of asking for the 170 dollar travel system. I'd ask for the 90 dollar stroller and 50 dollar car seat. That way two different people could buy cheaper gifts.

Answer
If the seat and stroller are the same brand, then yes, they will likely work together with one exception: The Graco SafeSeat does NOT work with all Graco strollers. The Graco SafeSeat is bigger than the Graco Snugride, and most Graco Strollers will fit the snugride, not the SafeSeat. You'd need to register for a graco stroller that specifically says it will fit the Safeseat if that's what you wanted. Steer clear of Evenflo infant seats!!! Very flimsy, constant recalls, and awful recall fixes. They just haven't mastered the art of infant carrier making yet.

The universal car seat carrier strollers can be a good idea, cheaper than a full size stroller and will fit most major brands of infant seats. Less bulk, too, in the trunk. Baby Trend makes one, so does Kolcraft and Combi.

Also, its worth noting that you don't HAVE to get an infant carrier car seat. They are nOT a required stage in car seats. Newborns can go home from the hospital in a rear facing convertible car seat. Convertible car seats last kids until their 2-4 years old (or longer) whereas infant carrier seats are outgrown at 4-7 months, and then you're out shopping for a car seat...again.

as a single parent on a seriously limited income, I now realize I should've completely skipped the infant carrier stage. Its not a 'needed' stage in car seats, its just a convenience thing, and a recent - as in the last 15 years or so - invention to have a stay in car base and separate carrier. Here's why I think its a waste: doesn't last babies very long at all. You spend $60 and up on this carrier that is only going to last 5-8 months! And then you have to purchase a convertible car seat, and somewhere down the line a booster seat. If you skip the carrier phase, you just eliminated one seat. There is now one carrier on the market that promises to fit 99% of babies up to at least their first birthday - Graco SafeSeat1, goes to 30lbs. However, there are limitations to this awesome seat. It really will fit most kids that long, but that's a catch-22. You really going to carry your 25lbs baby in a carrier?! My son was a BIG baby (still is a BIG kid!) and outgrew his carrier at 4 months. And, after baby gets above 10lbs or so, they are a pain in the butt to carry - quite awkward. So its not as convenient as it may at first seem. And some of the 'convenient' ways people use them aren't good.
Carriers should NEVER be placed on grocery carts. It makes the carts unstable and they can tip over, seriously injuring the baby. Also, not all car seats fit all carts, and they don't lock on, they're just sitting there, posing an obvious threat. And some of the carts are shaped or sized in a way that it puts the carrier at an unsafe/uncomfortable angle for the baby. I've seen babies laying in carriers on carts with their head lower than their feet - not a good idea for digestion or spit up.
The American Academy of Pediatrics says Parents and caregivers should never Place an infant carrier on top of the shopping cart. "Many infant-only car safety seats lock into shopping carts, and many stores have shopping carts with built-in infant seats. This may seem safe, but thousands of children are hurt every year from falling out of shopping carts or from the carts tipping over. Instead of placing your baby's car safety seat on the cart, consider using a stroller or front pack while shopping with your baby. "

Also, we are seeing rampant developmental delays becuase babies are in these carriers (and swings, and bouncy seats...) so much. Look around everywhere you go and instead of holding their babies, people have them in these carriers. When on their back and harnessed (and any time a child is in a carrier, he needs to be harnessed, even though its not in a car!) they can not work the muscles they need to develop to crawl, sit up, and walk. In the manuals for these carriers, it even says specifically 'for use in cars and strollers only'! But we all seem to miss that part.

So I highly recommend skipping the carrier phase. I think they are more a pain than a blessing, and a wasted of money if you don't have a lot to throw around. Instead, get a convertible car seat that will fit a newborn (more on that later) and a sling, pouch, or wrap. Not one of those silly snugli or infantino carriers, but something like a ringsling, moby, or maya wrap. Wearing your baby gives everybody what they need. Babies get much needed closeness to mom (or dad, or anyone else for that matter!) and you get your hands free to do what you need to do, as well as you can even breastfeed in one! They offer many different positions to use them in, too, and go higher than carrier car seat weights (20-22lbs). Most go to at least 35lbs, so you will get much more use out of it for your money.

OK - so if you choose to skip the carrier phase, be careful about the convertible car seat you choose, b/c not all will fit newborns well. You want it to have low bottom slots.
Perfect options:
The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. It can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode.

Cosco Scenera - $50 at Walmart/Kmart/Target. Great seat for the price. Goes up to 35lbs rear facing, 40lbs forward facing. Great rear facing seat, but is outgrown very quickly forward facing b/c of short top slots and short shell. You'll still get you're $50 worth out of it, though, as it will last most kids to at least 2 years, quadruple the amount of time of an infant seat!

As you're shopping, remember these rules about seats:
1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you're more likely to use it correctly.
2)Children should stay rear facing AS LNOG AS POSSIBLE!!!! The 20lbs/1 year rule is outdated and provides a bare minimum for turning kids forward facing. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration both recommend keeping kids rear facing as long as possible, up to the limits of their seat, preferably until at least 2 years of age. For good reason: A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone. In other countries, rear facing 2 - 3 - 4 year olds is standard, they understand that its safer.
3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can't sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c most car seats only forward face to 40lbs.
If you choose to go with an infant seat I would pick the seat you (stay away from Evenflo infant carriers, too many recalls, crappy recall fixes, overall a very cheap seat) and get a universal car seat stroller like Baby Trend Snap n Go, Combi Flash EX, Kolcraft makes one, too. That way you can spend a little less, sell it when you're done, and get a higher end stroller that will last better.

What is the best stroller/ carrier for newborns?

LondonLou

Should the baby be lying down or is a sitting position ok for newborns (my mother thinks that a sitting position will damage the baby's back, she is also against the car seat to stroller snap and go option) any thoughts?
Also do you prefer the baby bjorn carrier and if so which one or the sling?

Answer
I absolutely loved my Graco travel system and I actually cried when my son did not fit in the bucket seat any longer. It is the best invention as you no longer have to wake the baby to move them from the car seat to the stroller (and vice versa). I would definitely do some research though because there was just a big recall for the bases on numerous brands of infant travel systems. The one we have passed the safety tests and we would definitely buy it again. As for the stroller, my son is now 14 months and the stroller is still in great shape and trust me it takes a beating. The only problem I have is that it's very large. Luckily we now have a minivan but before with our compact car, nothing else would fit in the trunk.

Mom's tend to have a LOT of advice when their grandchildren are born. Although most of the time it is good, some of it may be a little outdated. I've learnt to listen to what they have to say and pick and chose what I plan to follow.

how important is it to have a LIGHTWEGIHT UMBRELLA STROLLER?

singlechic

when u already have a regular one like the big clunky one from a travel system? just curios i have limited funds and a few baby items left to buy before she gets here. is that a must=have item?

Answer
no, i have to say they are a waste! i use mine to take packages into the post office, other than that it sits in the back of the van or in the garage. it is difficult to steer and my kids put their feet down on the ground which makes it tough to use, plus for a baby it does not recline. stick with the bigger stroller!

and FYI they are only 12 bux at target, walmart and toys r us.

What are some baby items you really enjoy having?

Mrs.

I'm talking about things that the baby likes, or things that make life more convienent. Not MUST haves, but things you really like having.

Answer
well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the end of the brush, they come in diff colors mixed with white and have a great nip brush in the handles....
drying racks--again, i really like munchkins...
formula mixer: i like dr brown's formula pitcher bc you don't shake it it is only abo

Baby Trend Jogger Travel System.....if anyone owns it..... just a little question....?

Do you think the stroller is compact (when folded) enough to fit in the trunk of a 03 Mustang?

What about the car seat, is it compact enough to fit in the backseat?

http://www.target.com/Baby-Trend-Jogger-Travel-System/dp/B001O9DT1S/qid=1247198697/ref=br_1_5/184-1546255-6675816?ie=UTF8&node=3579971&search-alias=&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=3579971&rank=price&rh=&page=2
Or do you think this travel system would work better?

Answer
Hmmm... I have the baby trend system. I would think that it would fit in the trunk of a mustang. It will be a tight fit, but it will fit.
As for the car seat fitting, it should. I have a dodge caliber and it fits with a little room. Our issue is that we have to have the front seat pulled all the way up, but then again, I am normally alone with the baby in the car. You can alway buy it and try it. If it doesn't fit, take it back.
I LOVE my baby trend stroller, but I am not a huge fan of the car seat. I just don't like the way it clips together, but I don't think I would really like any clips since my son HATES the car seat :-)

Baby Trend Phantom Jogger Stroller - which car seat?

LaDiDa

I love the positive reviews for the Baby Trend Phantom Jogger Stroller, but am discouraged by the reviews for the Baby Trend Phantom Infant Car Seat. I am somewhat confused cos the Baby Trend Jogger Travel System has great reviews - I assumed it's the stroller and car seat mentioned earlier, sold as a set. Either no one likes the car seat on its own, or I'm getting the strollers mixed up.

Looking for options for car seats for the Baby Trend Phantom Jogger Stroller stroller, I dont see any mention of compatible car seats for the stroller on the Baby Trend website. I don't care if it is a Baby Trend car seat, it just needs to fit the stroller.

I'm so confused with the many strollers and car seats there are and want a set that's affordable but wouldnt fall into pieces within months. My budget is $200 for both the car seat and the stroller.

Just wondering if any of you have the Baby Trend Phantom Jogger Stroller, and what car seat do you use with it. How do you like the stroller? What other car seat/stroller combo would you recommend if not this?

Thank you very much in advance!

Answer
Personally, I think for that budget, its a great option.

The baby trend seats are known to be nice seats in the carseat world. They are affordable, and they've made some improvements in the last year or so. I read some of the reviews on target.com - frankly, I don't put much into reviews online for carseats.... 9 out of 10 people have their seat installed incorrectly. So clearly, its harder to use a seat when its used incorrectly.

(you can get the whole system here: http://www.albeebaby.com/baby-trend-jogger-travel-system-9139ct.html with 10% off by the way)

This is a good system: http://www.albeebaby.com/graco-quattro-tour-sport-travel-system-nectar.html and the seat goes up to 30lbs. The graco strollers are actually pretty good quality... they are just huge. But if I was in this pricerange, it's probably what I'd end up with.

If you can go up just a bit - what I would recommend is the chicco system... it's much more like a high end stroller/carseat then other mass produced strollers -

Stay away from Evenflo...

I'd say you're headed the right direction with the baby trend. You an also buy a stroller and combine it with a carseat individually...

like you could buy this: http://www.albeebaby.com/fraco-metrolight-stroller-in-soho.html and this: http://www.albeebaby.com/graco-infant-safeseat-step-1-8a15nct-nectar.html

if you're having a girl... this: http://www.albeebaby.com/quinny-zapp-stroller-bright-pink.html and this: http://www.albeebaby.com/maxi-cosi-micro-infant-car-seat-happy-flowers.html (LOVE This one...)

what kind of stroller should I get for my baby?

baby travel systems jogging on Jogger Travel System Stroller on Car Seat Stroller Jogging Travel ...

Amanda

I am starting a baby registry and want to put a stroller on it but don't know which stroller.
I am 5"4, so I am pretty small and don't want it to be too heavy. I do not jog, and the sidewalks here are pretty smooth. I would like it to be easily maneuverable. Is there one stroller that you love that you would recommend that is under $300? Would you recommend a travel system?

Answer
I love my travel system.. its very convenient when they are small.. mine was about $250.. it has a built in thermometer, clock, cupholders, and compartment for cell phones. The only bad part about them is the stroller is pretty bulky so it makes it difficult to put in the trunk sometimes.. especially if you have a smaller car!! mine's a coupe and it's pretty difficult

Are there any coupons for Babies R Us going on now?

N and A's

I'm looking to buy a Maclaren Volo stroller hopefully this week and was hoping to find a coupon to help the cost. I got an ad for BRU for 10% off strollers but it's only travel systems or jogging strollers. I've looked on Craigslist and Ebay.

Does anyone know of any place online(or otherwise) that have coupons available for use at this time?

Answer
I wonder if different BRU send out different coupons because I just got a coupon book on Friday which had 15% off anything in the store.

Try looking in your local PennySaver people sometimes have coupons in there for free
