I want to buy a car seat and stroller togeather as a travel system. I looked at walmart, baby depot, babies r us, and target and can't find a neutral one that I like. ANy Ideas where I can find one?

Answer
You can't find a system you like or just a design you like. You can always find a system you like and get a carseat cover. Check out e-bay. They have tons of them. Some of the stores on their will let you pick out the colors and fabrics. We just bought 2 for our unborn twins.

So when your shopping for you baby which one of these are you going to be getting?

Britt

So are you getting a bassinet? Has anyone ever used one of those pack and plays that double as a bassinet?
Are you getting a crib that converts into the twin bed or just a normal crib?
Are you getting a travel system? I was thinking about one that has the car seat up to 35 pounds, but it's crazy expensive and can't decide if it's worth the money or not. And do travel systems usually come with the base that makes it easy to snap into the car?

Answer
I love my pack and play bassinet. It was given to us by my in-laws, and it was one of the best gifts ever! We had twin girls first, and they shared it for a while until they got bigger, then we put them together in their crib. Now their brother was born last December and he uses it. When they get bigger, just take the hanging part out and they can use it to play in. We've taken to tons of places when the girls were younger and it was a life saver. I loved the attachable changing table too, but I don't use it now.

The travel systems are good, but they're so big. Sometimes I've seen parents struggle to push them around. Yes, I think they come with the car seat base as well.

We just used two normal seats for our girls and a double stroller, then when they turned 1 we got them the front facing "toddler" type seats. For our son we just use a normal car seat and a regular stroller. It was much cheaper for us.

Answer
We have a system made by Baby Trend. It was the Expedition LE jogging stroller that also had a car seat that lifted out and could be put into a base in the car. The base was LATCH compatible, so it stayed in the car while we could pop the baby in and out.

I had offered to give a friend who's having a baby a used traveling system?

one person

It's a baby trend expedition jogger & infant carrier with baby seat. It's been sitting in the garage for 1 yr & when I took it out to clean it up for her I noticed it was a little dinged up on the foot rest & a bit on the snack tray. Now I remember I scratched it the first day I used it shoving it into my car & then it was burried in the garage so it's accumulated some more scratches. My question is do you think she'd mind? I feel bad cause she didn't register for a stroller cause I was going to give her this one & although we cleaned it it's not in PERFECT condition.

Answer
she knows its used and probably doesnt expect it to be in perfect condition, maybe allow her too look at it and decide if she wants it

who has a bugaboo bee and what do you think of it?

baby travel systems bugaboo on Home Best Baby Travel Systems Travel Systems on Sale
baby travel systems bugaboo image

Katharine:

we are considering buying a bugaboo bee for our baby in the new year. what are your opinions and experiences with this pram?
i am currently 18 weeks pregnant so have some time to shop around, but want something lightweight and compact that suits a newborn.

Answer
I've had a look online for you and the brake issue that the other lady mentioned is now repaired.
It seems to have very good reviews for the most part as it is light weight and extremely easy to lift and fold. The downsides to the Bee seem to be that it is narrow so your baby may outgrow it sooner than other prams. The wheels are small so that also implies a bumpy ride for your little one and potential wear on the wheels.
I see more of the Chameleon out and about around town that the Bee but both seem to be very popular and Bugaboo is the brand of choice for a lot of celebs too!
It is also very pricey compared to Mothercare, Britax, Graco or MaxiCosi's own branded travel systems but it is that much lighter.
Hope that helps. Wonder why no one answers pram questions on Y!A?!

Recent mommies: what are the best baby slings, all in one strollers, and baby bath tubs/showers?

Adje J

I'm going to be a new mommy in March. My hubby and I are trying to finish up our registry, but can't seem to decide on a few last items. Any recent mommies out there have some recommendations on these items: baby slings (comfortable, easy to use preferably), a stroller that also has the baby carrier and car seat holder, and the easiest to use baby bath tub/shower center?

Thanks for the input!! :)

Answer
Slings- I can't recommend one brand because every mom is different and every baby is different.

I would NOT recommend a travel system. Most babies outgrow the carseat very quickly, and if they don't outgrow it, they are too heavy to lug around. Plus, with a baby being born in March, it'll be awfully warm to have your baby in the car seat in the stroller during the summer. I'd get a Graco infant seat and then get a really good stroller. Peg Perego infant seats are good, as are Chicco and Britax. I'd steer clear of Evenflo, Safety 1st, and Cosco (including Eddie Bauer) because they're junk. Some strollers come with infant seat attachments, but I do not recommend a Graco stroller. They're bulky and become squeaky pretty quickly. I am in love with my Maclaren stroller. They're pricey but last FOREVER (we're talking used daily with multiple kids) and still looks new after several years. The Maclaren link I gave you comes with an infant seat attachment if you really want a travel system feel to your stroller. You also can't go wrong with a Peg Perego. I'd try to find something small and compact so it doesn't take up a ton of room at home or in the car. Here are some strollers that I have used and like and they have good reviews, too!
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3572977
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3446845
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3458517

As for a baby tub--just get your basic plastic tub. You don't want one with a mesh liner because it is just a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.

EDIT: The Bugaboo stroller is fantastic--it's my favorite, but it's SO expensive. If you have a higher budget, the Uppa Baby is a close second, but still double the cost of the Maclaren.

If you get a carseat with a 30 lb weight limit, it won't fit in the seat part of the shopping cart and you'll have to use the entire basket which kind of defeats the purpose.

Also, don't get a head support insert or anything that doesn't come with the seat--just roll up a receiving blanket and place around baby once baby's in the car seat. It's never safe to put anything between baby and the seat itself because it can interfere with the seat in a crash.

I was told to give my 1 yr. son Dematap, IBprophen, just in case in has a hard time on the plane.

Answer
I've been flying internationally with my children since they were 2 months (now 7&5), and at least 3 of those flight a year are me and the kids by ourselves. Here are some tips and advice that have always worked for me and I hope will help you:

1.) You will need to have all your sons documents in order. For domestic flights you usually don't need and ID, but it is good to bring along a notarized copy of his birth certificate just in case. If it is an international flight you will need a passport and possibly a visa.

FAA regulations currently allow children under the age of two to fly free of charge as "lap children" (not required to have their own seat). If you are flying internationally, the airline might charge you (I say might because not all do) a 10-20% fee.

The steward/stewardess should place them in a front seat where they will have more room. Most airlines will provide you with a special baby seat belt that hooks onto yours so your child can be buckled up as well. And depending on the airline and length of flight, the steward/stewardess might give you a crib type thing that attaches to the front wall to put your child in (however you can not uses this during take-off and landing).

This is not the safest way for a child to fly and the airlines recommend children to have their own seat with a child safety device, but does not mandate it because of the cost to the parents.

2.) I advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System) because it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, and gives both of them the opportunity to relax a bit.

A CRS is an airline-approved alternative to using a hard-backed seat and is approved for use on aircraft and for use in motor vehicles. Many people confuse it with a regular car seat, which it is not. http://faa.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=29&p_created=1071174367&p_sid=mn66D6wi&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NCZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWNoaWxk&p_li=&p_topview=1

This website talks about approved CRS devices and their ratings: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/Index.cfm

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. Parents should call their airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats.

Ask your airline if they can provide a CRS for your child. If so, you may not be permitted to bring your own CRS on board, and may need to check it as baggage. http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/

3.) For take-offs and landings, the best thing you can do to help with the ear popping, is give your child a bottle to drink (milk, water, juice - it doesn't matter) or a pacifier.

Baby formula is fine to take, and you are not limited to the amount you can bring aboard (as long as your child is with you), do not worry. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

New regulations allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz, -OR- beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food onto the plane with you. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the stewards/stewardess' will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

Another trick is that if your child is not taking to the pacifier or wanting to drink, gently rub his neck from the chin down to the chest several times - this will cause a swallowing motion which will help with the ears popping.

4.) Pack a few instant hot/cold cereals, instant rice, and other just-add-water packets (age appropriate, of course). The stewards/stewardess' will provide you with hot or cold water upon request. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food and a few other non-perishable snack items, such as cheerios and dried fruit. Drinks will be provided free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request.

5.) Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your child. A few of his favorite toys, books, a portable DVD player and one or two movies, and any comfort things such as a blankie. It is also a good idea to buy a few inexpensive toys that you will give to him only once on the plane. It will hep to keep him occupied.

6.) Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your child. You will need this in case he gets sick, spills something on himself, or in case your luggage gets lost.

7.) Keep your diaper bag well stocked with plenty of diapers, wipes, ointments and other essential things. Baby nail clippers and scissors are not allowed though. Just remember the new regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use.

8.) Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up.

Also it is a good idea to have a check-up with your doctor before leaving to make sure your child is healthy enough to fly. If he has even a slight cold, the pressure in her ears during take-off and landing (even if you do the precaution methods) could leave his ears aching for days after the flight.

Most doctors recommend that if anyone is sick (such as being stuffed up or already having an earache), not to take the flight because of the potential damage to the ears. I know my husband and other pilots do not work if they are sick because of this danger.

9.) Bring any medications that you might need for your child should he get sick or that he takes regularly. Remember that if they are not prescription medications, the 3oz rule applies to them and they must be kept in a clear plastic bag.

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making him sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well.

10.) Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it.

I hope they have a great trip, and if I can be of any more assistance, please feel free to contact me

Does my 3 yr old need her car seat to fly American Airlines?

Q. I am flying with my daughter for the first time flying American Airlines from St Louis to Atlanta. Do I need to take her car seat or can we just use the lap belts in the seat? Is there a weight or age that you have to be before you can use just the lap belts? Also, does anyone know if St Louis airport has weekly parking rates or is it just by the day? Thanks!
She weighs around 46 lbs. I have a convertible car seat that we now use without the straps, just use the regular car belts. Is that good enough? I read some sites that said you can't use booster seats. So, I'm not sure if my carseat is considered a booster seat since it does have a back on it.

Answer
At this age she doesn't need her car seat, but I would recommend it. She is still young and small enough that the airline seat belts will not fit properly around her little waist and could pose a danger during turbulent weather. Better to be safe than sorry.

I also advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System - otherwise know as a car seat) because apart from it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, it makes them feel secure.

A CRS is a hard-backed child safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

This website talks about approved CRS devices and their ratings: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/Index.cfm

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. You should call your airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats.

I would also advise that you take your daughter to the store and let her pick out her own carry on bag. Allow her to buy a few inexpensive toys that will be used only once on the plane as well. This will help to keep her entertained during the flight, and excited about going on the flight. Make sure to also buy her a few things for her bag without her seeing so that she will have a surprise when she opens her bag.

4.) Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your child. You will need this in case she gets sick, spills something on herself, or in case your luggage gets lost.

Just remember the new regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use.

You should be respectful of other passengers and always change your child's diaper in the restroom. They do have diaper bed changers in there, although they can be a little small.

6.) Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up.

Has anyone tried both the Maxi Cosi and the Chicco Keyfit carseat/travel system? suggest?

Which would you suggest?

Answer
Across almost all review sites, including Consumer Reports, people say the Chicco Keyfit is the best infant car seat.

Here is one baby review site that has some good reviews of the Keyfit: http://www.viewpoints.com/Chicco-KeyFit-reviews

Can anyone suggest a good carseat?

Marie-Mom

I'm looking for an infant car seat and don't know where to start!!! This is one thing I don't want to go cheap on but I also don't want to spend unecessairly if possible.
Is it worth it to get the car seats that come with the stroller (the travel systems)? And what about the convertible car seats?

Answer
First - DO NOT go to consumer reports. Go to them for your car, or your dishwasher, or a bike... but not a carseat. They have the WORST way of rating carseats.

Second - don't worry about a convertible carseat. You will not be using it until at least 9 months after the baby is born, and carseats actually expire, so if you get one at your shower, you will waste at least 1 year of the life of the seat sitting in a closet. :) Plus - the manufacturers are really ramping up right now - there have been a ton of new models coming out and I'm sure even more will come out this year - you never know what will be available in a year.

As for an infant seat - I would suggest staying away from Evenflo. They make a great convertible seat, but their infant bucket has had way too many recalls for my comfort in the past 10 years.

You can go with a matched "travel system" but I always encourage new parents to expand their search - look for a stroller that you'll actually want to use for the next 4+ years... you're going to use your stroller way longer then your infant seat. Most full size and medium size strollers come with carseat adpaters or you can purchase an adapter. After you find the stroller you love, find a carseat that will work with it. Almost all strollers work with Graco Snugrides. If you go with a graco snugride, the biggest thing is to get one that adjusts in the front... and not the back. The back adjusting infant seats are a pain. You'll see a strap to loosen and tighten the harness on the front adjuster seats.

Feel free to surf around www.car-seat.org - tons of people have photos of babies in the seats, or just information about them.

You should also try the seat in your car before you buy it (babies r us does let you do this) and also book an appointment with a certified carseat technician - www.seatcheck.org

Here's the deal, my roommate was caught bringing back several ounces (11) of marijuana from Canada.
He somehow got a slap on the wrist, the only problem is that last time I traveled to Europe when I came back I was kept at the airport for several hours and finally asked if I knew him. His name was in the computer when I was traveling and I was traveling by my self.
When I came back from spending a night in Toronto with my friends, again they held us up at customs for quite some time and they went through our bags. Mine in particular, I had my European passport in my travel bag and when they handed back our passports they handed me back the second one that I hadn't shown them in the first place.

When I confronted my roommate about it he acted very chummy and almost ignored the whole situation, he practically laughed in my face.

One day I was telling a friend of mine about the whole situation and he said he would try to find out as much as he could about it but with no guarantees. He just got back to me and said he contacted someone at the airport I flew in from and said that my roommate told the cops that I was selling drugs and now my name is in there computer system as a threat to this country.

I never did anything wrong in my life, at least not at this level and I'm being treated as a suspect every time I travel.

The worst part is that I couldn't even get a straight answer from the people from home land security when they were going through my things at the airport, like the baby presents I had for my new born cousin at the time. If it weren't for the fact that I happen to have met someone with some kind of connection on the inside, I would've never really known the truth about what happened.

I would like to get my name cleared, I don't want to be considered a suspect every time I travel. I travel quite a bit since I have family in several different places. Besides being quite a nuisance when I travel, I don't really know what this means to the government or how it will affect me down the road.
Can this keep me from getting a job?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

One day left to answer, and here I am, that statement above needs to be sent to your Senator, and Representative at the legislature so they can figure how to write laws to protect the public from the government who is set up to protect us.

The first thing I suggest is find a new address to live, and get a new ID, and Pass Port, an old saying, if you dance with the devil you will get some on you, so get as far away from this person you call your friend, he is only pulling you down in his hopeless pit of despair.

You are a victim of a form of systematic harassment, or what I would like to call, "The Beast".

There is no way to clear your name, not legally that is, unless you know someone working in the government. You can gather evidence, and try to bring this to court, but I think that they think you are guilty of association. Blame your friend.

What are wormhole's?

baby travel system definition on Human Respiratory System
baby travel system definition image
Q. how are they made?

Answer
In physics, a wormhole is a hypothetical topological feature of spacetime that is basically a 'shortcut' through space and time. A wormhole has at least two mouths which are connected to a single throat or tube. If the wormhole is traversable, matter can 'travel' from one mouth to the other by passing through the throat. While there is no observational evidence for wormholes, spacetimes containing wormholes are known to be valid solutions in general relativity.

The term wormhole was coined by the American theoretical physicist John Wheeler in 1957. However, the idea of wormholes was invented already in 1921 by the German mathematician Hermann Weyl in connection with his analysis of mass in terms of electromagnetic field energy.[1]

The name "wormhole" comes from an analogy used to explain the phenomenon. If a worm is travelling over the skin of an apple, then the worm could take a shortcut to the opposite side of the apple's skin by burrowing through its center, rather than travelling the entire distance around, just as a wormhole traveler could take a shortcut to the opposite side of the universe through a topologically nontrivial tunnel.

The basic notion of an intra-universe wormhole is that it is a compact region of spacetime whose boundary is topologically trivial but whose interior is not simply connected. Formalizing this idea leads to definitions such as the following, taken from Matt Visser's Lorentzian Wormholes:

If a Lorentzian spacetime contains a compact region Ω, and if the topology of Ω is of the form Ω ~ R x Σ, where Σ is a three-manifold of nontrivial topology, whose boundary has topology of the form dΣ ~ S2, and if, furthermore, the hypersurfaces Σ are all spacelike, then the region Ω contains a quasipermanent intra-universe wormhole.
Characterizing inter-universe wormholes is more difficult. For example, one can imagine a 'baby' universe connected to its 'parent' by a narrow 'umbilicus'. One might like to regard the umbilicus as the throat of a wormhole, but the space time is simply connected.

[edit] Wormhole types
Intra-universe wormholes connect one location of a universe to another location of the same universe (in the same present time or unpresent). A wormhole should be able to connect distant locations in the universe by creating a shortcut through spacetime, allowing travel between them that is faster than it would take light to make the journey through normal space. See the image above. Inter-universe wormholes connect one universe with another [1], [2]. This gives rise to the speculation that such wormholes could be used to travel from one parallel universe to another. A wormhole which connects (usually closed) universes is often called a Schwarzschild wormhole. Another application of a wormhole might be time travel. In that case, it is a shortcut from one point in space and time to another. In string theory, a wormhole has been envisioned to connect two D-branes, where the mouths are attached to the branes and are connected by a flux tube [3]. Finally, wormholes are believed to be a part of spacetime foam [4]. There are two main types of wormholes: Lorentzian wormholes and Euclidean wormholes. Lorentzian wormholes are mainly studied in general relativity and semiclassical gravity, while Euclidean wormholes are studied in particle physics. Traversable wormholes are a special kind of Lorentzian wormholes which would allow a human to travel from one side of the wormhole to the other. Serguei Krasnikov suggested the term spacetime shortcut as a more general term for (traversable) wormholes and propulsion systems like the Alcubierre drive and the Krasnikov tube to indicate hyperfast interstellar travel.

[edit] Theoretical basis
It is known that (Lorentzian) wormholes are not excluded within the framework of general relativity, but the physical plausibility of these solutions is uncertain. It is also unknown whether a theory of quantum gravity, merging general relativity with quantum mechanics, would still allow them. Most known solutions of general relativity which allow for traversable wormholes require the existence of exotic matter, a theoretical substance which has negative energy density. However, it has not been mathematically proven that this is an absolute requirement for traversable wormholes, nor has it been established that exotic matter cannot exist.

In March 2005, Amos Ori envisioned a wormhole which allows time travel, does not require any exotic matter and satisfies the weak, dominant, and strong energy conditions [5]. The stability of this solution is uncertain, so it is unclear whether infinite precision would be required for it to form in a way that allows time travel and also whether quantum effects would uphold chronology protection in this case, as analyses using semiclassical gravity have suggested they might do in the case of traversable wormholes.

[edit] Schwarzschild wormholes

Embedded diagram of a Schwarzschild wormhole.Lorentzian wormholes known as Schwarzschild wormholes or Einstein-Rosen bridges are bridges between areas of space that can be modeled as vacuum solutions to the Einstein field equations by combining models of a black hole and a white hole. This solution was discovered by Albert Einstein and his colleague Nathan Rosen, who first published the result in 1935. However, in 1962 John A. Wheeler and Robert W. Fuller published a paper showing that this type of wormhole is unstable, and that it will pinch off instantly as soon as it forms, preventing even light from making it through.

Before the stability problems of Schwarzschild wormholes were apparent, it was proposed that quasars were white holes forming the ends of wormholes of this type.

While Schwarzschild wormholes are not traversable, their existence inspired Kip Thorne to imagine traversable wormholes created by holding the 'throat' of a Schwarzschild wormhole open with exotic matter (material that has negative mass/energy).

what is Donohue syndrome;explain?

Answer
Donohue syndrome
By Paul A. JohnsonThe Gale Group Inc.

Definition

Donohue syndrome, also formerly called leprechaunism, is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the insulin receptor gene. W. L. Donohue first described this rare syndrome in 1948.

Description

Donohue syndrome is a disorder that causes low birth weight, unusual facial features, and failure to thrive in infants. Donohue syndrome is associated with the over-development of the pancreas, a gland located near the stomach. It is also considered to be the most insulin resistant form of diabetes.

Donohue syndrome results from a mutation of the insulin receptor gene which prevents insulin in the blood from being processed. Therefore, even before birth, the fetus exhibits "insulin resistance" and has high levels of unprocessed insulin in the blood. Insulin is one of two hormones secreted by the pancreas to control blood sugar (glucose) levels. Donohue syndrome is known as a progressive endocrine disorder because it relates to the growth and functions of the endocrine system, the collection of glands and organs that deliver hormones via the bloodstream.

Hormones are chemicals released by the body to control cellular function (metabolism) and maintain equilibrium (homeostasis). These hormones are released either by the endocrine system or by the exocrine system. The endocrine system consists of ductless glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream. These hormones then travel through the blood to the parts of the body where they are required. The exocrine system consists of ducted glands that release their hormones via ducts directly to the site where they are needed. The pancreas is both an endocrine and an exocrine gland. As part of the endocrine system, the pancreas acts as the original producer of estrogen and other sex hormones in fetuses of both sexes. It also regulates blood sugar through its production of the hormones insulin and glucagon. The pancreas releases insulin in response to high levels of glucose in the blood. Glucagon is released when glucose levels in the blood are low. These two hormones act in direct opposition to each other (antagonistically) to maintain proper blood sugar levels. As an exocrine gland, the pancreas secretes digestive enzymes directly into the small intestine.

In an attempt to compensate for the high blood insulin level, the pancreas overproduces glucagon as well as the female hormone estrogen and other related (estrogenic) hormones. As excess estrogen and related hormones are produced, they affect the development of the external and internal sex organs (genitalia) of the growing baby.

Insulin mediates the baby's growth in the womb through the addition of muscle and fat. A genetic link between fetal insulin resistance and low birthweight has been suggested. Without the proper processing of insulin, the fetus will not gain weight as fast as expected. Therefore, the effects of Donohue syndrome tend to become visible during the seventh month of development when the fetus either stops growing entirely or shows a noticeable slowdown in size and weight gain. This lack of growth is further evident at birth in affected infants, who demonstrate extreme thinness (emaciation), difficulty gaining weight, a failure to thrive, and delayed maturation of the skeletal structure.

Signs and symptoms

Infants born with Donohue syndrome have characteristic facial features that have been said to exhibit "elfin" or leprechaun-like qualities, such as: a smallish head with large, poorly developed and low-set ears; a flat nasal ridge with flared nostrils, thick lips, a greatly exaggerated mouth width, and widely spaced eyes. They will be very thin and have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) due to their inability to gain nutrition through insulin processing. They will exhibit delayed bone growth and maturation, and difficulty in gaining weight and developing (failure to thrive).

Donohue syndrome patients are prone to persistent and recurrent infections. Delayed bone growth not only leads to skeletal abnormalities, it also leads to a compromised immune system. Many of the chemicals used by the body to fight infection are produced in the marrow of the bones. When bone maturation is delayed, these chemicals are not produced in sufficient quantities to fight off or prevent infection.

At birth, affected individuals can also have an enlarged chest, with possible breast development, excessive hairiness (hirsutism), as well as overdeveloped external sex organs, because of increased estrogen production caused by an overactive pancreas. As an additional side effect of the increased sex hormones released in Donohue syndrome, these individuals often have extremely large hands and feet relative to their non-affected peer group.

Why is the placenta both part of the baby and part of the mother?

Yo Momma!

Answer
It is neither,. It is the support system for the growing baby - but it isn't PART of either of them, hence why it is gone after delivery.

Interesting though, in Bali ......................................
888888888888888888888888888888
In Balinese, a placenta is called ari-ari which derives from the word ari meaning âyounger siblingâ. Balinese Hindus believe that while babies are in the womb until they are born, they are accompanied and protected by these ari-ari, of which there are four:
Bhuta Nyom (amniotic fluid)
Bhuta Rah (blood)
Bhuta Ari-ari (placenta)
Bhuta Tabunan (belly button)
These four siblings help the baby leave the womb by way of the vagina (known in Balinese as goa garbha) safely and healthily.

Since these four elements are considered so crucial, the way they are treated is also important. First of all, the placenta is cleaned and placed in a young empty coconut or a clay pot. Then, the ongkara symbol is inscribed on the lid and the ahkara symbol on the base of the vessel â these are both godly symbols in Hindu philosophy. After this, plant thorns (such as eggplant, rose or pandanus), betel nut and leaves are placed in it. Then, the vessel is wrapped in coconut fibre (ijuk) or white material and if the baby is a boy, the family buries it on the right of the side of the house entrance or door (looking outwards); the opposite is performed if the baby is a girl. If the mother doesnât live in her own house or family compound, she can also choose to have the placenta thrown in the ocean. When the placenta is buried or thrown into the sea, a mantra is recited, praying for longevity. After burying the placenta and reciting the mantra, the hole is covered with earth and black stones. Then a thorny pandanus bush is planted on the site to protect it from animals and evil spirits.

A ceremony now takes place including offerings of white rice, salt, ginger, yellow turmeric rice, red shallot rice, and black charcoal rice. Over 42 days an incense stick or a candle is lit and placed on the site. Normally, whenever the baby is washed, fed or blessed, the ari-ari are also washed fed and blessed. They are considered a real part of the babyâs life.

I have heard it described other ways as well (my cousin lives there) and it is the father's job to take care of the placenta. My cousin said he & his wife chose burial sites based on things - like the sea if you want your child to have adventure & travel, or a mountain for wisdom. I think it is kind of neat actually.

What is the tone of this poem?

roon

I believe the tone is gloomy and straightforward. Gloomy because of the description she gives and straightforward because she's saying things as they are. Can anyone help me out though? Why would it be gloomy?

Saturday morning armies
of Black women
young
and old
and, young and old in the same time
in the same face
in the same care and time and work-worn hands
you rise with the dawn
leaving home and brown babies
behind you, in the day's early light
pulling coat and scarf close
avoiding the mirror
shrinking of the cold morning of
bus ride
to prestigious street corner

you are not alone
you are with your sisters in this
Northend - to Southend
Jane Finch - to Rosedale
Montreal - to Outermont
Harlem - to Scarsdale
wearing head-rag
carrying dust-mop, scrub-bucket
in-service three days of week march in the dawn.

you possess a key, cherished girl (never woman)
of this house
you tap and scuffle and wipe feet at the back
and enter the world of
day's
day's
day's work in service
taking your place in that army of
round and strong and weary backs
moving with grace and sure familiar stride
from your kitchen
your babies
your own forgotten morning at home
to this
three days-a-week armies of Black women
in service

Answer
I feel it is more realistic of life than truly gloomy. Capitalism and for that matter any system in any age creates a hierarchy and some are at the top of the pile while the majority are at the bottom or in stages between. This poem deals with people (women) being exploited by the system but they appear to be black. For centuries those with white skins have dominated those with yellow, brown or black skins. Why is this? I feel that when the mass immigrations of around 30,000 years ago out of Africa those who travelled to Europe had their skins changed to a paler shade due to the lack of sunshine. The 'whites' found they were in latitudes that helped them develop advanced feudalism that led to industrialised capitalism, which exploits everyone whether they are black or white. If you are working class and black you will feel very exploited and this will give rise to this type of poem. Gloomy not, realistic yes.

When should i start registering for my baby shower?

Jamie

I'm having my baby shower June 12th when should i decide where to register and when?

Answer
Go ahead and register now, I am due June 29th and my showers are sometime in May, there isn't even proper dates set up but my MIL started telling me to make them three weeks ago, I haven't even given out my registry information yet and people have still got online and searched for my information on babiesrus to see if I had made one yet and already bought some stuff. People do check to see if you made one before they get their invitations, I always try to find them first so I can get first dibs on what gifts I want to buy.

Last Sunday my dad bought me a double electric breast pump and a baby bath tub that was better than the one I registered for and sent me an email telling me to take the baby bath tub off of my registry and told me the one he got me. My sister asked me for my home address yesterday and told me to take my swing off of the registry because she is ordering it for me off of amazon and it will be delivered to my house. My mother in law started asking around for what pack n play we like so that means someone on my husband's side of the family wants to buy that, we told her we have one picked out on our target registry so most likely they already have it pulled up. My stepmom called dibs on buying the play activity mat already and asked if I can take the one I have off of my registry so no one else buys it. MIL bought us a eddie bauer travel system before I was even three months pregnant because she found it brand new on sale at sears for $90 and that is our babyshower gift from her.

So you see registering earlier can not hurt at all, it is better to in my own opinion. There are plenty of times when I found the registry before I had got the invitation that I picked a big ticket item and asked if some other people can go in together and we can split the cost of the item to make sure they get at least one big ticket item and they can still buy a small gift. The worst thing that can happen is no one buys anything off of your list until you send out your invitations. I find it easier to just work on it a little each day anyways so you don't forget to put certain things on your list that are often overlooked like thermometers and baby medicine.

What travel system did you buy for your baby? What's your favorite?

ME

There's basically way to many choices when it comes to baby themes, stroller sets, crib sets etc. What travel system (stroller & carrier) set did you choose for your baby? My favorites so far are "Graco Meridian, and Graco G galore" but truthfully I am awful with decisions so I don't know how I could ever choose what set to buy, when its time. What travel system did you buy, or what is your favorite? (if you can post a picture or link so, I can see it) :)

Answer

Several baby blankets and an average crib and stroller? Thanks.

Answer
I'm in Canada, and actually, Zeller's is having an awesome deal right now.
Travel System (car seat and stroller) only $99, and it's soooo pretty (pink flowers). And some others for like $150. Usually like $200, though (for the travel system).
I got my crib and mattress given to me, but usually $150-$200 is enough for both.
Blankets..depends. Again, here, Zeller's has a pack of 4 for only $10. I also found some really cute ones at the dollar store, $2 each.

What stroller/car seat travel system have you had that you really like?

BeThAnY

I really want something easy to use and that isnt too bulky. I am having my fifth baby and will use it a lot. I had the Graco combo with my last baby, but I really think that the stroller is pretty bulky. My husband and I saw the Combi stroller/car seat yesterday and really liked it and then I read the reviews which weren't too great! I am kind of thinking Britax, but I just don't know....lol!

Answer
I have the Chicco Cortina and love it. One great feature is on the stroller the handle has three height setting that you can easily change which is great because I'm short and my husband is tall and it allows for both of us to push the stroller comfortably. Also the stroller folds smaller than graco's. One thing it doesn't have on the carseat part is those hooks that fit onto shopping carts, but it does fit there fine. Although no carseat is made to go on the shopping cart, but in reality almost everyone does it. But I always felt safer with it in the basket of the shopping cart instead of up top. And I also like that when the carseat is in the stroller you can adjust the shade top in both directions so you can easily see your baby and they are still blocked from the sun. One other thing is that there doesn't seem to be a convenient place to attach any stroller toys. Not a big deal but just worth mentioning. Overall I really like the chicco. It sells for about $260. The carseat is good rear facing up to 22 pounds.

Raina

i bought a graco travel system today off of craigslist for $60! and it really is in good shape. it included the car seat and the base and a cover and a stroller and it's cover. the stroller has 4 different levels being that the floor lays flat for baby to sleep, then 2 different inclines and a 90 degree sitting position.
but what other features should be looked for regarding safety, function and convenience?

Answer
You got a great deal!! I've looked on Ebay and Craigslist to see what deals I could get, and let me tell you...nothing like what you got! Its great that it has those different positions, i haven't seen many if any that are like that. Basically as long as the car seat has good crash safety ratings and the stroller feels sturdy im sure it will be great! Also cup holders come in handy and a place to put your diaper bag underneath the stroller.

Where can you find a cheap baby catseat/stroller travel system?

Jenny

I am looking for a car-seat and stroller travel system but don't want to spend an arm and leg on one. I wont to buy one new though. so any suggestions on were i might find one. Also, im not a fan of Evenflo ones. Thanks for the help.

Answer
Check Wal-Mart and Target, they tend to have them cheaper than other places. You could also watch ebay for a new one. Good luck.

Travelling with my son abroad?

baby travel systems south africa image

zeepan2000

I had my son 8months ago (US Citizen)and I am hoping to travel with him to South Africa for christmas to meet my family for the first time. My husband who is an American citizen refuses to let me go with him. He's afraid that we might not come back. I've tried to reassure him that I wouldn't leave my belongings, job and a marriage and dissapear on him like that. My son deserves to know my side of the family who are all abroad, what can I do legally to force him to let our son come with me (the vacation is only for 10days). Unfortunately due to finances, we cannot afford to pay for a second ticket for my husband, so figures if he cannot go then his son is not going either. What lawyer can I see, I am willing to take it that far, i won't deprive my son and my family a relationship
Here more info., my son will already be 1yr old at the time of travel.
1. My husband and his family are Jehova's Witness and do not celebrate christmas, birthdays and anything of the sort and to me christmas is a big deal and would like to be with my family for that. Christmas passes by and they don't care and I feel extremely home sick every christmas when I'm here.
2. I have and elderly, ailing mother who we thank God to still have around each year,
3. My mother's sister (who is deaf by the way) is nearing blindness from Diabetes.
These are all the reasons going home would mean the world to me, so if this seems unreasonable to some of you, then you must not have a heart. What's wrong with wanting to share my son for the first time with people who mean the world to me?

Answer
If your son was 6 or maybe 7 where he would gain bonding I would
underswtand your position but your son is le likely to bond with
family at under one year be real put off the visit and send pictures
until the child can remember and share closely the bonding you want him to share you are being unealistic and very instigating and obstinante to your loved husband and you have a rare outlook that is
very put offish and unfair to your husbands wants. Set aside your selfish wants because really the child and the family wil cherish the bonding with a more older child they have seen in photos they do not need to hold such a smal infant besides travel that far is very harsh on a baby under age 3 yrs besides the rigors of travel all the illnesses
the child in a plane is bombarded with his small immune system cannot handle may due him more harm than your family would not
want to harm his benefit or health. rethink your wants and pospone your trip save for the other ticket and love your husband letting him know you love the child as much as he does and share it together
bod with him showing him you care for his desies and love him
doent make him be deprived of you both and your love for each other
for such trivial jaunts. The child will not benefit from this long journey
besides all the shots his immune system it way to young to handle the
multitude of diseases and illnesses in a flight cooped up with some
possible lethal bugs for such a long travel. sides you do love your husband right. why wold anyone who loves their spouse and child place them in a position to be separated and in such unhealthy way.
And as far as lawyers you seem to havsome issue other than the child
that wont even be able to remember a trip to south africa until way after
he turns at least 6 or 7 I cant remember my earliest memory until
I was 4 when my dad died. so love your family dont seek lawyers
to take a family trip thats bizarre. love and honor your relationship
and think of how separated and detached your husbqand would feel
without you and his son during a family holiday meant to bring together your bonds of love. your family will understand and wait for the little loved one and they will better enjoy loving a bright and
chipper tyke as they would a a bundle of joy without the drama of the dad no there to share their smiles asthe new grandson enters their loving home. chill cheers. love each other and prosper be happy.

Cancer question...should i leave him or stay?

freeverse

I am a twenty six year old woman, I live in South Africa. In 2008 when I met my husband I was doing my second year of varsity awaiting to do my last. I fell pregnant that year and had to take a break from varsity and go to Germany with my husband as he is a german. We got married but unfortunately I lost the baby. The beginning of this year I moved to the Cape trying to finish my studies when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My husband came down to South Africa and supported me especially financially. I had two chemo sessions and could not travel. He continued to support me financially but as we are in a long distance relationship he could never be there for me physically. I went through radiation treatment and 3 more sessions. My husbad started to get weird like he would ask me how much I spend on medication, food...so on. I did not mind as he was supporting me financially. Then he came down to SA after my radiation and started asking me for every receipt of medication, of my food...telling me that I was wasting his money on expensive medication and that he is broke because of me. It hurt, still does because he said he would never give me a cent of his money until I gave him all receipts of what I spent money on. I had to move from private health care to public health care...I have no money for food or medication it has been hard on my health as I do not receive the same treatment I used to in the public system. He is in germany and I am still in South Africa because of visa issues caused by my health. I do not know if I should stay in a relationship with this man as he does not care anymore barely calls me. At this point regarding my disease I cannot deal with his behavior
Help!

Answer
If he is not willing to support emotionally then you don't have time for this in your life.
I had no support from my husband during my time with breast cancer. I chose to leave.
My family & friends got me through my bout with cancer. Your 26 years old your young yet,
get through your cancer ordeal & move on your life. This choice is yours in the end , this is only my opinion. Nothing is harder on a cancer patient when their own husband does not stand by you. Good Luck.
