What do you think of baby trend products?

<3

I had never considered anything other than Graco really because it's all my family has ever used & with my first that's all I used however today I went to babies r us and found a jogger travel system that I absolutely loved! it seemed much more sturdy than the graco because the graco was made of all plastic.... so I checked out babytrend.com and found all these things graco didn't offer.. but I'm wondering how safe the products are??

Answer
Baby Trend products do not have the best reputation. Many of my friends and myself had had problems with the seat back adjuster of the stroller snapping, sending the child back. The locking front wheel for jogging also tends to come unlocked when you are using it. The Baby Trend infant car seats receive good ratings but the handle must be down when he seat is used in the car making it difficult to use in many vehicles.
To put it simply, the seats are safe when used properly although it is a little difficult. the strollers are not reliable.

Buying first stroller/car seat/travel system?

Dorkus

So my first baby is due in May, and I figured it's time for me to get things started and buy our first car seat, stroller, travel system.

Right now the brands I'm looking at (that also fit my budget and seem to be pretty popular) are Graco, Chicco and Safety 1st.

So here are my questions:
1) I noticed there are some car seats that are meant to hold infants up to 22 lbs and others up to 30 and even 35 lbs. Is there really a benefit to sticking to a bigger or smaller car seat, ie. the bigger car seat seems like it allows more future-proofing as the baby grows, but does the smaller one (which will have to be replaced sooner) fit infants better?

2) I was building my own travel system as it seems the largest amount of complaints for current travel systems are that they are quite bulky/heavy. So I was thinking about getting one of the lightweight infant strollers and then getting a different stroller when the infant outgrows that stroller. However, I noticed the infant strollers tend not to have canopies, also do not have nice features like shocks? are those really important?

Anyway, this is my first baby. My budget is fair, I can probably spend about $300-$400 on the travel system/stroller/car seat combo. What would you recommend? just getting a travel system (or building one), should I bother with the lightweight infant car seat stroller?

Thanks

Answer
1) The current recommendation is to keep a baby rear-facing to 2 years old. So either you would want to go with a car seat that will accommodate to 2, or older, from the get-go (which would be a convertible and won't work with a 'travel' system) or you would want a baby seat that rear-faces to that higher amount. The bigger seat is tested to hold the baby safely to 35lbs in a collision up to 30mph if I remember right. The smaller one is only good for up to 22lbs, then it fails the tests. Both fit fine. Even the huge convertibles fit a newborn fine.

2) The recommendation for SIDS prevention is that babies do not sleep in their car seat or at an incline until they are able to sit up. So a stroller for a newborn shouldn't use a car seat, but should lay flat (like the Chicco strollers.) I find that most strollers in travel systems have small wheels that don't go up and down curbs well or handle sand, grass, gravel, etc. So I personally like the large wheeled ones (Baby Trend Jogging Stroller for instance) but those shouldn't be used until they're about 4 months old (not for jogging, just for walking.) Personally I'd skip buying a travel system and 'build your own' as you are talking about because then you can pick and choose what you want. And I'd honestly look into the Ergo baby carrier instead of a stroller.

My personal experiences...

With my daughter I bought a Graco travel system, snugride-22lbs. My daughter was very small, so she was 15 months before we replaced the seat, and the stroller was hardly used. It was bulky, hard to maneuver, control, go up and down things, go into a playground, etc. It was recalled eventually so I got rid of it then. I got the BabyTrend Jogger Expedition for about $80 and it was able to go through the gap in the fence around the playground by our house rather than having to walk around to the bigger gate, we were able to walk in any store and walk around the aisles, it was narrower, quieter, more easily controlled, and the big wheels made it so I could go anywhere! It was SO light to push as compared to the old one too. The instructions say I could have used it from 2 months on, but I feel more comfortable with 4months up. The car seat... my daughter was 15 months and we decided to replace it with a bigger one before a vacation. We bought a Britax Decathlon because it goes to 33lbs rear-facing and like 65lbs forward facing, so I figured it would keep her rearfacing a while. She's still rear-facing in it at 4 years old (she's small, in the 2%) which is REALLY good.

Now, with my son we bought a Graco-snugride-35. The infant seat is more of a shell than a convertible and I believed it would protect him better, but I was wiser about car seats and left his seat always in the car because of the dangers of taking it in and out of the car (shopping carts are not a place for a car seat, every time you take it in and out you risk it bumping or not working as well, babies shouldn't sleep in the car seat...) Instead I would take him out, put him in the Ergo Carrier, my daughter in the shopping cart or Baby Trend stroller, and away we'd go! It was SO much more convenient and easier, plus he was facing me (this has proven benefits on speech and language as well as helping them calm). He fit in the car seat fine, and at a year old about my sister was ready to have a baby so we bought the Britax Boulevard and put him in there. I'll tell you right now, in the long run it's cheaper to get something like that. It rear-faces to 40lbs and then forward faces to 70lbs, so it's going to be pretty much the only seat he'll need until he's like 7-8 years old (which is when the seat would expire.)

With my next baby we will go directly to a Britax Boulevard. The way they're built I believe is as safe as an infant seat, and in the long-run it's cheaper, and definitely safer than most of the Graco Snugrides (and infinitely more comfortable.) I like the Boulevard because you can adjust it, so I've actually put my nephew when he was 6lbs in it and tightened the belts and everything and he was very secure and comfy there. Then adjusted it just like that to put my son back in it, or even my daughter. It's a much more convenient seat, and I love how the LATCH is set up on it compared to the Graco My-Ride, Snugride-22lbs, Snugride-35lbs, and Britax Decathlon we've tried over the years. The ONLY negative I can think of is that they typically cost close to $300 (but remember, you're not replacing it in a year, 2 years, or even 7 years. The next seat you will get literally will be the booster seat.) And note, next to last link is the one I've got (except mine looks like a bunch of cows died to make the cover...) for $239. And the last link is our stroller for $80 (but again, I'd really recommend the Ergo for the first year then get a stroller.)

Baby Trend Expedition LE Jogger? (travel system)?

amber17sw

I just registered for this stroller at babies r us. Just wondering who's used it, and what they thought?
Is there a better jogger travel system out there?

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2571210

Answer
I haven't seen that before. Wish they made it when I had mine.
The jog stroller is great, but takes up a whole lotta room in the trunk, even folded. And if you are the sort to use your stroller in the grocery rather than a cart the jog stroller can be pretty big.

But it looks like a good idea. And having an 'offroad' stroller is great. Beaches, parks, even out in the yard.

I can't choose which travel system to get for baby, help Im going mad!!!!!!?

both good travel systems. & i love the way they look and the reviews are good. of course not EVERYONE will love it but the majority did. I love the first one. well the look of it better. but the other is just idk I love it too.

Answer
Get the Baby Trend stroller, but not the car seat. The car seats are a pain in the neck to buckle (you have to hold the buckle parts together while you push them in, at the same time, which can be very difficult and annoying.) The stroller though is easy to push, quiet, and works very well for 2 months up. I wish mine had the speakers. :P We bought a speaker for $20 though, and that works well. The large wheels make it easier to push in sand, dirt, grass, up curbs, over cracks, etc. So I definitely love that stroller.

As for Safety First, I'm not a fan after we had one and it started giving problems after a short period of time (car seat I mean.) The stroller also looks like a basic one, and they tend to give handling problems. I'd have to go to Babies R Us and try the stroller to see how far back it lays. It says it has a multi-position recline, but it doesn't say at what age you can use the stroller. From what I'm reading, they expect you to use the car seat in the stroller to use it from newborn on... which is dangerous. You don't want to use car seats in strollers do to breathing problems.

I'm not a fan of being roped into a travel system. You can usually find the car seat and stroller of your dreams if you don't try to buy them together. Baby Trend jogging strollers are wonderful, but I don't like their car seats. The Chicco strollers lay completely flat, making them perfect for newborns up (and you can usually find them on craigslist or used for cheaper) but I don't particularly like them because the wheels aren't those large wheels that work so well for obstacles. Car seats, I like the Chicco, Graco Snugride 35, Britax... the Safety First one might be okay but like I said I ran into problems with their brand in the past.

Add: For the record, the Baby Trend is classified as a jogger, but the instructions say to use it mostly as an 'all terrain', and not just a jogger. I've never jogged with mine. You don't have to jog to use a jogger, they're made for more than that.

What is the best lightweight stroller in your opinion?

I have a travel system but it's so heavy and bulky! I don't want to spend more than 150.00. Thanks!

Answer
Personally I love my jogging stroller. It's a baby trend, we bought it for under $100, and is very easy to push, maneuverable, fits anywhere I can walk through... but when you fold it to put it in a car then it can be bulky and heavy, but at the same time it was easier than the travel system we used. I can tell you now that I don't think any other stroller than one with a bit rubber tires could have made it through the snow we waded through today. :)

My suggestion is to go to a store like Babies R Us and try their strollers out. You can always go home and find the best price later, but unless you push it around you'll never know.

BEST infant to toddler strollers?

baby trend travel system jogging stroller on Strollers Stroller Travel Systems Ovation Travel System Stroller
baby trend travel system jogging stroller image

O->--<

I'm wanting a stroller that fits an infant car seat as well as the ability to convert for a todder. Also, I'm hoping to keep it under $250 and NOT a travel system. Any thoughts or suggestions would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks!
Sorry, I've read in multiple places that travel systems are mass produced junk and heavy.

Answer
I think the best option is to think out of the box actually. Get a baby wrap or carrier (like the Ergo or Moby Wrap) and wear your baby the first few months until they are sitting up. Once they sit on their own, then every stroller will work with them! If you already have a car seat, this is by far the best option.

Otherwise I'm not sure of what you're asking. If the stroller fits an infant car seat then it's going to be a travel system stroller even if you buy the stroller separately. Your newborn should, by SIDS standards, be laying flat when they're not in your arms until they are a few months old to sitting up age. Before then, their chin tilts forward and that can cause breathing problems. Using a car seat in the car is the safest place for a baby, but out of the car the car seat isn't a great riding spot.

So strollers that come to mind. When I say they fit seats, I mean I remember their user-manual saying that they fit more than one type of seat, you'll have to look up if your seat will fit.

-The Chicco Stroller. Pros: It fits car seats, and it lays flat so you can use it as a flat-laying newborn stroller. You can usually find it cheap on craigslist used and they don't have any recalls that I remember. Cons: Not as hard to push as the Graco travel systems, it's still pretty hard to push especially through sand or up and down curbs/stairs. Also it's more expensive if bought new ($179 without the car seat.)

-Baby Trend 3 wheel jogging/all-terrain stroller. Pros: It fits car seats. Under $100. Higher weight limit and very maneuverable for trail, park, etc use. Cons: It doesn't lay entirely flat... mine says that 4 months up is approved, but you don't want to use it for running until they're 6 months plus. They have a long profile so it's not as great in a store with tight aisles.

-Graco Quatro Tour Deluxe or something like that. Pros: It lays completely flat and fits car seats. Is under $250 even as a travel system. I've found the stroller alone in all sorts of second-hand stores and places. :) Cons: Very hard to push through anything other than on mall floors.

-Britax B-Agile. Pros: Under $200, goes to 55lbs, and I've had good experiences with it. Cons: you have to buy an adapter bar for use with other car seats besides their brand, which is $40, but that STILL comes under $250 with some of the sales going on right now at Target and Amazon. Without a car seat you have to wait until baby is 6 months plus.

Add: I want to say, I like the design of that First Years stroller that was the last one the previous poster gave. There have been studies showing that a baby facing mom in a stroller for the first few years will have better verbal and social skills, more likely to smile, more likely to sleep during a walk, than a baby facing away. So it's a very nice design in that it lets you chose which way to face your baby.

Which stroller/ jogger/ travel system would you recommend for a first time mom?

LondonLou

I have purchased only nursery furniture, clothes and a few toys so far, I am now 29 weeks and it is time to start thinking about baby carriers, transport systems and baby gear but the choice out there is daunting. I know that in a recent crash test on baby car seats they found baby trend and graco to be the safest car seats and bases so thatâs were I think I will start, we need a baby car seat! I was also thinking that I would be carrying my baby in one of those baby Bjorn carriers mostly but not sure if the active or the original is best. Also my Mom is flying in from England for 3 months to help so I want some kind of stroller for her to use as I cant see her using the baby Bjorn. My husband says that if we get a jogger that he will use it to jog on the weekends but I am not sure if they are too bulky for everyday use and at the end of the day when my mom goes home I will ultimately be the one getting it in and out the car and using it as he grows. I canât afford to get one of each
I need advice on the most practical yet safe baby gear. I also need to know if I need to by all this stuff before he is born, my husband seems to think that other than the car seat the rest can wait until our son is born then we can try him out in them but I would prefer to have it on hand before hand. Any advice?

Answer
With so many choices out there it can be confusing trying to figure out what stroller or car seat to buy. My suggestion is to look aroundf or what you feel most comfortable with. Here are a few good things to look for in each item to make sure you get what you really want:

Stroller- Look for these things:
does it fold compactly and easily- with one hand? Can you adjust the handles height if multiple people will be using it ( at 5 ft 1 my needs are very different than my husbands)? can you use it as a car seat combo ( like Graco products)? Do you want a lightweight, mid sized or super delux stroller? Look at the way the child gets strapped into the stroller- is it a five point harness? does it turn easily and can you manage it with one hand not just both?

Car Seats- Obviously safety comes first in this category and it'll depend on if you want an infant seat ( generally 5- 20 lbs.or so)- or a convertable seat ( 5-60 or more lbs.) The advantages of an infant seat are that you can easily take it with you inside where as the convertable seat stays in the car at all times.

Things to think about with a car seat: Take a look at how easily you can buckle the five point harness - is it hard to open and clip? Do the straps adjust easily to make them loose or tight? Some you have to pull apart the whole seat -Will it be easy for you to take your child in and out of the seat - think rainy day here! And the big thing is to test it in your own car! Every car seat fits differently in different cars. What fits in my SUV doesn't work in our mid sized car! Many places will allow you to give them your drivers id and test the seat in your car before you purchase... Babies R Us does this for sure!

My personal favorites from experience are:

Graco Snug Ride Infant Car seat- comes in so many patterns now and is easy to get in and out of the car - always has had a good safety rating - we used them for both children and were very happy with them. You can even purchase an extra base for a second car so it's easier!

Britax on the high end for a convertable car seat- we have the Marathon and LOVE IT- In my opinion it was worth every penny! Easy to instal with the lock off clip once you chnage to forward facing ( 1 year and at laest 20 lbs.)- it stays in the car tightly forward facing - and easy adjustment of straps- plus GREAT safety ratings! I found it easy to use as rear facing seat ytoo - although the placement of the adjustment to loosen the straps was harder in that position - but not awful.

We have a second car seat too- the Graco Safe Seat which I am pleased with as well - it's easy to use and also at a lesser cost has the seat belt lock off clip that keeps it snug against the seat- but this car seat would be the second after an infant seat becuase it is only forward facing.

Strollers - We had a graco stroller for my first daughter that lasted years - great durability, so I can't say a bad thing about Graco. I also have a new Peg Perego Pliko and LOVE it - it folds compactly - it's easy to fold and has plenty of room. My mom has the Combi Cosmo Stroller- only about $60 and it is great- we used it on vacation and I was very pleased - it's a very light weight and compact stroller. Folds so small you won't believe it!

My experience with a jogging stroller is to purchase one that has a front wheel that swivels- I had one that did not and it is extremely difficult to turn or use around corners, etc.. I got rid of it quickly! it is not condusive to shopping or small spaceswithout that feature at all!

Carriers- so many choices too- I useda sling carrier for a while- then wentto the baby bjorn- look online though and search baby carriers- you can get many at better prices than in the stores- and there are lots of choices out there - everything from moby wraps and mei teis to hotslings, etc...
Good luck & have fun shopping!

Double Strollers: What would you recommend, if any? Or did you even bother with one?

baby trend travel system jogging stroller on Baby Jogger Travel System | Baby Trend Jogging Stroller
baby trend travel system jogging stroller image

Maritimer

For parents with a (or had a) young toddler and a new baby, can you tell me what you'd recommend as far as a stroller goes? I've been looking at two.

The first is the Baby Trend Sit and Stand double stroller. It's a typical in-line double stroller, and the rear seat comes off when the toddler is older so they can just sit on the platform or stand on their own. It comes as a travel system. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4279629&prodFindSrc=search

Or should I get a jogging stroller? I was looking at one of the Phil & Ted Explorer Buggy strollers where you buy a double kit, and it becomes a double in-line stroller. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4452629&prodFindSrc=search This one can carry different brands of infant car seats to make it a travel system.

I guess my problem is that I have two Evenflo infant seats and neither of them are going to be any good to me once this new baby comes, if I want a double stroller.

So...in saying all of that, do you think I'd be better off with option #1, where it comes as a travel system and I don't have to purchase another car seat separately, option #2, where I'd have to additionally buy the conversion kit plus another new car seat, or my 3rd option: to just use the stroller that I have (that is also Evenflo and I can use the seats I already have, too, and let my toddler walk everywhere?

What worked best for your family? Did you find your toddler did well without a stroller? Carson is really good in stores...we don't use a stroller for her at this point, and I just hold her hand or let her walk a little ways in front of me. But with a new baby I can see that becoming very difficult to do.
It's just me: No, not all car seats ARE interchangeable. I tried my evenflo on the Baby Trend Sit and Stand. It doesn't click to latch it on securely. So in that case, it ONLY fits THEIR brand. The Phil and Ted jogging stroller fits Graco, Maxi Cosi, and Peg Perego. Not Evenflo (I have also tried this).

Trust me, I would not have asked this if it weren't a VALID question, so don't act like answering it was a complete waste of your time.
Response to It's Just Me: Listen, I have been in contact with the company, both Evenflo for my car seats and the companies that sell the strollers. Yes, Phil & Ted's DO sell a conversion kit for the car seats I've listed, you're right. But they do not have one for Evenflo seats. Likewise, as far as the other stroller (the travel system) goes, there IS no conversion kit available. I've spoken with them. I've tried it in the store with my car seat. It's a no go. So before you go off saying "Oh la la la, they all fit, I must know what I'm talking about"...take a moment and actually LISTEN to what I am saying. I have done my research, I've tested and tried. Evenflo is one of those brands that not many stroller companies support. So yes, I totally want to go out looking for an excuse to spend between $300-$700. That was the exact point of my question (sarcasm).

Answer
It's Just Me: You're a snarky woman. End of story. There is no such thing as a completely 100% interchangeable car seat and stroller. BB knows what she is talking about here, I've gone through it. Have YOU used an Evenflo car seat on these strollers? It doesn't sound like it. What it sounds like to me is that you got lucky in the past with one particular stroller that just happened to work with another type of car seat. But it doesn't always work that easily. Get over yourself, drop this "holier-than-thou" attitude.

BB: Do what I did. Keep your old stroller/travel system, the Evenflo one, the one you used for Carson. Put new baby in a sling when you go out. Get one of those Little star slings or something. Then, even if Carson doesn't want to be in a stroller herself, you still have your hands free to hold her hand and chase after her in stores.

I'd then maybe look on Craigslist or Kijiji for a cheap used double jogging stroller. Something that you can take on trails and stuff to get some exercise.

But for day to day use, no, you don't need a double stroller travel system, or even one that accepts an Evenflo car seat.

Which baby stroller I should Buy ?

Nurlan

I want to buy a good quality baby traveling set stroller. what's You recommendations..

Answer
Well... my first recommendation is to study the negatives to using a car seat as a carrying device outside of the car (that's what I think of when you say traveling set.) First is if you keep a baby in a car seat for long periods of time or leave them to sleep in it they are more likely (especially in the first 4 months) to have oxygen deprivation (they recommend your baby sleep on a flat surface, and you don't have a choice while in a car, but you do in a stroller.) Second is the more you take it out of the car the more likely something is to happen to the car seat so it's less effective in an accident. Third, the weight of a car seat plus baby is ridiculously high.

So then consider strollers. There are many that lay flat. The only negative to most of the strollers (in America anyway) are that most face away from mom/dad. Studies have shown that parents are less likely to engage with their children when they can't see their faces, and babies are less likely to laugh, make eye contact, talk, etc in a stroller facing away from the parents (forward facing.) You can find them though, especially if you live in the UK Prams are not uncommon or that terribly expensive. But, so long as you take the time to talk to your children and spend time face to face with them when you can, then you can work around that negative of a stroller so long as you keep them laying flat until they're old enough to sit up.

Another option is to think outside the box. Consider a chest carrier, wrap or sling. The Ergo and Moby Wrap are my favorites. There have never been any studies showing an oxygen deprivation moment in these (or most other carrying devices, except the weird slings that curled them up that were recalled.) And so long as baby is facing you then they are getting the face to face contact, hearing you talk more often, you are more likely to talk more often, getting rid of the developmental delays that happen when they don't get that enough. The Ergo goes to 40lbs, but the Moby Wrap is an easy one to use especially in the first 6-12 months until they are a good sitter then you can get a more lightweight and easy to use stroller. And as far as traveling, wearing your baby is a lot easier on busses, in airports, in malls, anywhere really, as opposed to a stroller.

So strollers I recommend. For newborn up, you need a laying flat one. Chicco strollers ALL lay down flat and many Graco do now as well. The Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe lays flat and is compatible with their car seat, and all Chicco carseats fit in their strollers, so there ya go. Though I wouldn't use them like that, those are what I would recommend if you want to go with a set. I'd recommend personally buying the car seat nice and a bit more expensive and just getting a Chicco stroller used though since they are almost never recalled and that gives you a bit better car seat for your buck. For about 2 months up, the jogging strollers (though you can't jog until they're older) are my favorites as they are thin, easy to maneuver, and can go through anything (gravel, snow, sidewalks, sand, grass, etc.) The Baby Trend joggers are my favorites because they're simple and rarely have recalls. The baby Trend also make car seats that fit on the strollers, but I HATE their car seat fastener system so try it out before you invest in that.
