Are travel systems worth the money?

RyanA

I am due April 3rd, with my first child. I do not go out often now. I doubt that I'll go out more after the baby is born... :) Anyway, I was wondering if the travel systems are worth it, or if there's something else that would be better. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer
You'll need a car seat and a stroller, but if you're going to spend the money, just get a really good car seat that will last. Get a Britax Marathon or a Sunshine Kids Radian 65 or 80. These will hold your child in the rear facing position (safest position) in a 5 pt harness (safest harness on the market) until 33 or 35 lbs, respectively. Then, it flips around to be a forward facing seat using a 5 pt harness until 65 or 80 lbs respectively. It'll save you a lot of hassle in the long run and you'll only need to purchase 1 seat for your child instead of 3.
Infant--Graco Snugride $80
Convertible: Graco Comfort Sport- $80
Booster--Graco Turbo Booster-$40

So, that is 200 dollars for seats that are not top of the line and top safety rated. In fact, boosters do little to save your child in a crash, yet kids as young as 3 yrs and 30 lbs are approved in many states to use them. You couldn't pay me to put a 3 yr old in one.

1 convertible for 65-80 lbs
Marathon: $270
Radian 80-$280
Both get top safety ratings and are the best on the market

I don't tend to like Graco or Evenflo strollers or car seats. Plenty of moms will say to buy Graco because they get good safety ratings, so I'll probably get a thumbs down. I will agree, that they do get good safety ratings for their price bracket. However, if safety is important, it's worth it to spend some extra money to insure your child's safety. In terms of car seat purchases and being safest here is the breakdown of brands from lowest quality to highest:
Safety 1st
Cosco (Jeep is Cosco)
Evenflo
Graco
Baby Trend
Chicco
Peg Perego
Mia Moda
Britax
The above is for infant seats.

Evenflo and Graco strollers tend to be squeaky and bulky. They have a lot of perks like cupholders, snack holders, big storage baskets, and if that's important to you, then go with one. Personally, I like strollers that are lightweight and easy to push. I love the Skate and Pilko by Peg Perego, the Britax Vigour looks amazing--I've never used it, although people who do use it swear by it.

I have never found moving a baby from car to stroller to be a major issue, as the car seats don't really get a lot of air flow through the plastic, so if it's summer and hot outside, your baby will be sweating like crazy if sitting in a car seat in a stroller. I'd rather have the baby be more comfy in the stroller. If you want stroller suggestions, feel free to email me!

9 months old baby travel in plane?

Sword

Can Moms tell me how let her sleep comfortable without a bassinet pls? It is a 15 hours trip. THXS!

Answer
I've been flying internationally and domestically with my children since they were 2 months (now 7&5). Here are some tips and advice that have always worked for me and I hope will help you:

1.) You will need to have all your baby's documents in order. It is a good idea to keep a copy of his/her notarized birth certificate with you. Since it will be an international trip, you will need a passport and possibly a visa for your child as well. Verify what travel documents you will need in advance to make sure you have everything.

FAA regulations currently allow children under the age of two to fly free of charge as "lap children" (not required to have their own seat). You will need to inform the airline ahead of time that you will have a small infant traveling with you.

The Flight Attendants SHOULD place you in a front seat where you will have more room. Because of the length of flight, the Flight Attendants SHOULD give you a bassinet that attaches to the front wall to put your child in (however you can not uses this during take-offs, landings, or turbulence).

This is not the safest way for a child to fly and the airlines recommend children to have their own seat with a child safety device.

I fly international flights all the time, and trust me, you will get tired from holding your baby for such a long flight, and your child may become fussy. Try holding your child for that same amount of time while sitting on the couch. If you can do that without any problems, then you'll be fine on the trip. If you can't, then you definitely need to ensure a bassinet for your child or a CRS.

2.) I advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System) because it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, and gives both of you the opportunity to relax a bit. It will also help your child (and you) to sleep better.

A CRS is a hard-backed child safety seat (car seat) that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

This website talks about approved CRS devices and their ratings: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/Index.cfm

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. You should call your airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats.

3.) For take-offs and landings, the best thing you can do to help with the ear popping, is if your child is nursing, nurse him/her. If he/she is not nursing, give your child a bottle to drink (formula, water, juice- it doesn't matter) or a pacifier.

Baby formula is fine to take, and you are not limited to the amount you can bring aboard (as long as your child is with you), do not worry. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

New regulations allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz, -OR- beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food onto the plane with you. If you are also starting to feed your son cereals, bring some that you just need to add water to. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the Flight Attendants will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

Another trick is that if your child is not taking to the pacifier or wanting to nurse or drink, gently rub his/her neck from the chin down to the chest several times - this will cause a swallowing motion which will help with the ears popping.

4.) Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your child, such as a few books or toys, and one or two comfort things such as a favorite blankie or stuffed animal.

5.) Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your child. You will need this in case he/she gets sick, spills something on him/herself, or in case your luggage gets lost.

6.) Keep your diaper bag well stocked with plenty of diapers, wipes, ointments and other essential things. Baby nail clippers and scissors are not allowed though. Just remember the new regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use.

You should be respectful of other passengers and always change your child's diaper in the restroom. They do have diaper bed changers in there, although they can be a little small.

7.) Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up.

It is a good idea to have a check-up with your doctor before leaving to make sure your child is healthy enough to fly. If he/she has even a slight cold, the pressure in his/her ears during take-off and landing (even if you do the precaution methods) could leave his/her ears aching for days after the flight.

Most doctors recommend that if anyone is sick (such as being stuffed up or already having an earache), not to take the flight because of the potential damage to the ears. I know my husband and other pilots do not work if they are sick because of this danger.

8.) Bring any medications that you might need for your child should he/she get sick or that he/she takes regularly. Remember that if they are not prescription medications, the 3oz rule applies to them and they must be kept in a clear plastic bag.

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making him/her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well.

9.) Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it.

Baby due in September: travel system or convertible car seat?

miller0607

Help! I need advice on how baby car seats work. As I understand itâ¦..first there is a travel system - infant seat up to 22 pounds that attaches right to a stroller, comes with a base, and I could buy a second base for Jimâs car; later I would buy a convertible car seat, with another second base for Jimâs car. Then there is an infant car seat, which seems just like the former, but I would need to purchase a separate stroller. Third there is a convertible car seat system, which goes to over 50 pounds, and I would need a second base. It seems that I could actually get the convertible car seat to begin with because it starts at 5 pounds (is this true?) but the disadvantage would be having to lift Avery in and out of her seat into a separate stroller even as an infant, unlike the travel system. Which systems have other parents used? Advantages and disadvantages to the system you picked? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Answer
You have 2 choices when it comes to car seats for newborns. Infant seats or convertible seats. Infant seats can be used with stroller systems. They have bases, you can get one for each car and use them interchangeably. They go up to 22lbs. Convertible seats can be used rear facing from 5lbs until 35lbs (this may vary depending on the exact seat) and front facing until 50-65lbs (again, this varies based on model). They don't have bases, but are 1 unit. One would be needed for each car, unless you want to switch it back and forth. You won't be able to take baby out of the car while still in the seat so a sling or baby carrier would be a good idea for carrying baby at the grocery store or while out and about.

We chose to use an infant seat/travel system and then move baby to a convertible when he is too big for the infant seat. The disadvantage is that it is more expensive in the long run, but my kids fall asleep in the car all the time. I like that I can remove the seat and take it into the house w/o waking the baby.

3 in 1 car seat or Travel system and add on later ?

nelsaan

I am confused between getting a 3 in 1 car seat or buying a travel system with infant car seat plus stroller and buying the boosters later. Which is the better way to go ?

Answer
i had trouble with that one too because i want stuff that is going to grow with my child and perhaps save me some money in the mean time. if your looking to save money and time then i would go with a 3 in one because it grows with your child and you wouldn't have to buy more car seats. but if you are looking for convenience i would get a travel system. with a travel system you don't have to wake up your baby and listen to it cry for a Lil bit and put it in a stroller plus if you are in a quick run to the post office and you know its a no no to leave your baby in the car you just detach the travel system and go rather then waking your child up and dealing with the stroller.

sigh if only they made travel systems with 3 in one car seats.

cheap baby travel system?

laura robs

im having my second baby after being made redundant i am struggling to find a travel system thats cheap (well affordable) im in the uk
any help would be grate

Answer
Don't get one. Just get a car seat for now, you don't need a stroller in the first few months they're so light and easy to carry. If you do want a stroller you can find one that's used that will be cheaper than any in the store, they're rarely recalled, and just look for one that lays flat and it's fine for a newborn without the car seat in it.

Having a baby ride at an incline instead of laying flat can affect oxygen levels and some believe the curve of the seat can affect back health, it's just all around better to have them laying flat and not in a car seat unless riding in a car.

Baby Travel System Help?

Rocio

Okay so we are shopping for baby items now! Yay!
My husband and I really want a convertible car seat, particularly this one "Safety 1st Complete Air⢠65 Convertible Car Seat - Great Lakes" (here is the link http://www.sears.com/safety-1st-complete-air-153-65-convertible-car-seat/p-04918152000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2)
But we are wondering if this car seat, or a similar convertible car seat would work for those new "snap n go" strollers, where its just a base, and you should just "click" the car seat in.
We want a travel system, but wish they wouldnt come with just the seat for the infant. Which is why we want the convertible seat, it lasts longer.

(this is what that snap and go stroller im talking about looks like http://www.sears.com/safety-1st-clic-it-33-infant-seat-carrier-black/p-04901811000P?prdNo=23&blockNo=23&blockType=G23 )

Please help.

Answer
The Safety First Complete Air is a great car seat... but it's not an infant snap-n-go type of seat. There's no convertible that will work with the snap-n-go strollers because they are all 'install and keep it there' seats. But really you don't need the snap-n-go Travel System. They're not worth it.

First, SIDS recommendations are that babies lay flat when they're not being carried. Even sitting in a car seat causes their oxygen level to dip and babies have died sleeping in car seats. Car seats are the safest place for them to travel in the car, but it's not for sleeping or spending long periods of time in.

Second, a snap-n-go stroller is cheapest NOW, but once the baby outgrows the infant seat (some as early as 6 months, most by a year or two) the stroller is garbage. You can't use it without the infant seat. And I'll tell you now, most babies want to sit up more from 6 months on. Compared with a normal stroller that will go to usually 50lbs and will last you for 5 years? No contest which is the better stroller. If you want something that lasts longer you do NOT want the snap-n-go, you want a normal stroller. I personally like the Baby Trend 'jogging' strollers with the big wheels for an economical choice. Try them out in stores. Small wheels tend to have problems going through sand (like at parks) and going up and over curbs/cracks/stairs are harder with small wheels.

To point it out, strollers are also rarely recalled and you can buy them used without worrying about an expiration date. So you can go on craigslist and buy a used one without it being an issue. The strollers that don't lay flat the baby can use once they can sit up while propped and their head is steady, usually from 4-6 months on. In the meantime, babies are usually very easy to carry, or get something like a Moby Wrap or Ergo and wear them (for the record, you can't put a baby seat on shopping carts, and using a stroller to go shopping is hard since it's not a cart, but put the baby in a sling/wrap/carrier and they'll fall asleep. It works WONDERFULLY.)

If you really want a snap-n-go you may be able to find one and a car seat to go with it on craigslist. Do NOT use the car seat in the car, that's not safe. However, if you're just using it for the stroller, then you should be able to do that.

I have a Graco Alano (third one) and I love it! The stroller is super easy to fold up:) The pink is so cute too! It is a little tough to keep clean (Oxy Clean makes it look like new again) I got mine on clearance at Target. The travel system was marked down to $80! So, if it's coming out of your pocket check there just in case:) If not, who cares lol! Good luck to you and happy baby shopping! It's so fun isn't it?

Are pregnant Mainland Chinese allowed to come to Taiwan now to have their babies?

We left an

I see what has been happening in Hong Kong.
http://www.hkdigit.net/2011/10/hk-march-against-mainland-chinese-pregnant-mothers/

With the expansion of travel from Mainland China to Taiwan granted by the KMT, how long will it be before a lot of mothers-to-be start planting their PRC children in Taiwan?
http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2011/05/06/chinas-wealth-drain/#axzz1lfWNzC00
In the past decade the number of babies born to mainland women who are not married to Hong Kongers jumped from 620 in 2001 to 32,563 last year.
"Honey, I'm going into labor. Get me on a plane to Taipei, NOW!"
(We can talk about how "all Taiwanese became Chinese" at a later date... OK?)

Answer
I am no immigration law expert, but from what I know, the short answer is yes.

The situation in Hong Kong is that pregnant Chinese women are going to Hong Kong to have children, leading to locals to stage a protest, arguing that public health resources are directed toward non-local people. As a result, public hospitals are crowded out, forcing Hong Kong women to seek higher priced medical service at private hospitals. While the number of pregnant women in mainland China traveling to Hong Kong have increased, it is thought that most of them are wealthy enough to buy their way into Hong Kong, the financial barrier is still great for most mainland Chinese.

From the public health perspective, Taiwan is already facing this kind of pressure, because Taiwanese doctors have all but fled the more traditional roles (pediatrics, surgical units, internal medicine, and obstetrics/gynecology), more and more doctors are seeking to practice in cosmetic surgery, which is much more lucrative in terms of effort and income ratio. If pregnant mainland Chinese come to Taiwan to have their babies, it is bound to have some impact on Taiwan's medical resources.

I know you are concerned about the issue of immigration, more so than the problems with Taiwan's public health. So here is my opinion.

There's a gradual increase of Taiwanese marrying mainland Chinese, and vice versa, happening in recent years, the government have set up tight control over who gets to enter Taiwan from mainland China. However, it does not seem there are tight rules over pregnant women seeking to have their babies in Taiwan. The same issue with having babies elsewhere, in Hong Kong or Taiwan, is the financial barrier. Taiwan's universal health care does not cover foreign individuals, therefore patients are required to pay at the full cost, which is quite a heavy sum.

Now if the situation is that PRC parents coming to Taiwan to have children, the current rule is that you still have to apply for legal status, which may or may not be approved. If one of the parents is a Taiwanese national, then you have a greater chance of being approved, providing that you have proof of parental DNA relationship. Both situations above require many paperwork, and is not easily fulfilled. To be honest, I think most mainland Chinese prefer to immigrate to the US, given that they can afford it. By the way, Hong Kong people also have a greater chance of being accepted to Taiwan.

In my opinion, Taiwan can probably take advantage of mainland Chinese immigrating to Taiwan. First of all, communist China will probably hesitate to raise a war with Taiwan, because it will cause casualties on their side. This might ease the tension across the straits. Secondly, to a raise a child in Taiwan is no small feat, Taiwan can harvest a lot of taxes off those rich mainland Chinese parents. Lastly, immigrating to Taiwan is very complicated, though I cannot definitively tell you there are no loopholes, I will tell you that once a mainland Chinese baby go Taiwanese, there's no turning back, because our system plainly works better.

is it a bad idea to register for big gifts for baby shower?

new twin m

such as, carseats, rocking chair, basically anything big a baby would need. I already have cribs but idk I just was wondering what people usually register for. Oh I am having twins by the way.
@ a red scar, Let me clear this up. I didn't say i expect to get them I just meant should I just in case. I'm not an idiot of course I will buy them if no one gets them but what could it hurt to put them on there? its not like I'm saying I will be upset if no one gets them for me I was just wondering if I should even bother.

Answer
No, you should register for the things that you need. Including the big items. Like others have said, don't expect them, but put them on there anyway. Some family members who are well off may want to get you a big item. And sometimes several people want to go in on something together and can easily split the cost of one of the big items. For my shower my MIL got us the crib we wanted, and my husband's aunt and cousins all went in together on the carseat/stroller travel system that we wanted. If they hadn't gotten us those items we would have bought them ourselves, but receiving them as gifts made it easier for us to get other things that we needed. As long as you also include a lot of lower and moderately priced items on the registry as well to give those who can't afford or don't want to get you the big items it will be fine.

When we registered, we put the crib, carseat/stroller, a bedding set, some feeding necessities, and safety supplies (outlet covers and cabinet locks). We did not register for clothes except one or two things that I thought were just irresistibly cute because I figured people would buy us lots of clothes whether we asked for them or not. We also didn't register for toiletries, but received tons of towels, shampoo, baby oil, baby powder, etc anyway (perhaps largely because we didn't know what we were having).

Answer
HOLY CRAP! 90% of this is ridiculous. Things you'll actually need:

Infant car seat
Car seat base for 2nd car
A stroller (you pick what kind you want, but you don't need four different styles!)
Some toys - you'll get a ton of these as gifts, too.
Clothes - you'll get two tons of these.
Breast pump if applicable; bottles and nipples if applicable. Unless you have a preemie, sterilizing isn't necessary.
Basic medical stuff - bulb syringe, nail clippers, thermometer, and some Tylenol.
Some burp cloths, or just use towels.
A few blankets.
Diapers.

The rest, you can do without or pick up in 2-3 years when you actually need it!

Travel System for my Sister's first Baby?

J.R.

So my older sister is pregnant with her first child, it's a girl. She is due sometime in December. So I was thinking about getting her one of those Travel System stroller things but I don't know what the best deal is. I want one that won't be too bulky, and is very sturdy and light. I also don't want to spend more than $200. So where would be a good place to look?

Answer
Babies R Us or Walmart.

Personally I have the Graco Elyse Travel system and I love it!!! It is light weight, The stroller folds with one hand, It had good reviews, I know 2 other moms who have it and both love it!!

I had a girl also so That's the one I got. I wouldn't recommend Even Flo - My bf's sister just had a baby also and her evenflo is horrible! And they get tons of Recalls.

The Gracy Snugride 35 actually was rated one of the best infant seats on the market. The Snugride that goes from 20-22lbs actually are fine as well. The problem tends to be that babies outgrow them before 2 years old, and the tests say that a baby should rear-face to 2-4 years old (4 years old according to most of the research.) Now if your car seats are already in use, then I'd say just keep using them. They're safe, but you'll probably have to buy a new one in 6-8 months. A convertible gives you the ability of using the seat hopefully for the next 6 years and keeping them rear-facing longer (also after 6 months, when the baby is sitting up, they're more comfortable.)

I don't like travel systems as much because the strollers packaged with them tend to be heavy and hard to push. Plus, SIDS recommendations are that your baby sleeps on a flat surface not at a tilt. Car seats basically are the best place for a baby in the car, but when you take them out of the car you shouldn't keep them in a car seat. So a stroller that lays flat, or a chest carrier/sling you can use is safer for the baby to be in. And remember that an infant seat cannot sit on a shopping cart. Shopping carts (and car seats) are NOT made for that. Also, when you take an infant seat out it increases the weight of your baby by whatever the seat weighs, 20lbs sometimes, and it can really hurt your back hauling a bucket around like that. After your baby is 4-6 months old you can get a stroller that sits them up more safely (they're sitting up on their own more by that point) and are much easier to push.

If you have the money, I prefer the Britax-70 line. They rear-face to 40 and forward face to 70lbs, and I like the fact that Britax will replace your seat if there's an accident, but also that they guarantee it's safety in a small accident (most other seats require you to replace after a small accident as much as a large accident. Since Britax tests at higher impacts, they can guarantee it's safety after a short accident.) I like how this line actually has a steel bar on either side, and each is independently latched to the car's Latch system, plus the fact that it allows anchoring even rearfacing. Anchoring is when the top of the car seat is tied down to the floor of the car. In an accident where the seat belt fails or the latch fails that anchor can keep the seat in place.

With my children, I used a Graco Snugride for my first, and a Graco Snugride 35 for my second. With my first I hauled the seat everywhere and just about broke my back and arms. :P The stroller was a monster to deal with (and actually got recalled.) She was switched to a Britax Decathlon at 16 months about. Because of fitting issues, we didn't go directly to the Britax with my second born. With my second, we got the Snugride 35 and left it in the car, taking him in and out, using an Ergo carrier. That was far more enjoyable and when he was crying or teething I could put him in the Ergo and bounce on my exercise ball or do things around the house and he'd calm down and sleep. If I was at church or something I could put him in the Ergo and walk and he'd fall asleep. It was far better for both of us. At about 10 months old, I put him in a Britax Boulevard 70 and we tried it on my newborn preemie nephew and he fit it as well. I'm impressed at the changes, and like it a great deal. If/When I have a third, we will go immediately to a Britax Boulevard 70 (or whatever has been updated.) They're more expensive, but should last the full 6 years until it's expired, and I have no complaints.

Answer
Don't get a Safety 1st travel system at all. They're not rated well, they're not as safe as others on the market. You get what you pay for. The car seats do not crash test as well as other brands do. You can't put a price on safety. If something should happen to your child in a car accident, you don't want to be thinking, if only I'd have bought a better car seat. Get a Graco car seat. Strollers don't matter--go ahead and get the Safety 1st stroller, but don't get a Safety 1st car seat.

Other brands in the same group include Cosco Juvenile, Maxi-Cosi, Eddie Bauer, and Quinny. The are notorious for product recalls, and cheap parts.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-carseats-special,0,7744829.story

EDIT: Well, Graco isn't the best name, either. Safety 1st is the cheapest brand on the market. They're notorious for crappy products that do not test well. Period. Graco is a middle of the road brand that is the most affordable to the most people which is why it is the most popular. If you truly want what's safest for your child, you'll get a Chicco car seat or a Peg Perego car seat. These offer side impact protection in an accident. Plastic with cute fabric stretched over it (Safety 1st or Graco) do not. I don't really know why you're wasting so much time researching stroller safety (since there are not any studies out there on it). You need to buy the safest car seat for your baby and worry about the stroller second. The car seat's what going to save your baby, not the stroller. If you want the best stroller out there, you're going to get an Uppa Baby or a Bugaboo, neither of which is probably in your price range if you're looking at Safety 1st travel systems. Most strollers can be turned into travel systems in this day and age with an adapter bar. The only exception is umbrella strollers.

quinny buzz 3 or 4, is one really better than the other?

Q. i cant decide on the quinny buzz 3 or the 4. i know the difference between the both, but which one is more practical? i was going to go with the chicco cortina travel system but its too bulky and ive heard to many bad things about it, baby being hot in infant seat, seat being heavy, stroller has to much of an incline so toddler doesnt sit up right. so we want to go the the quinny and maxi cosi micro. does anyone have it? do you like it? is there anything else similar at or below that price? no graco due to lack of padding(i love the seats and how versatile they are, but its like the baby is sitting on plastic!) not into evenflo or babytrend either....

Answer
quinnys are really large and bulky and very heavy, personall i dont think any of those are practical

What is better to purchase - a travel system, or a separate car seat and stroller?

LP

This is our first baby, but we plan on having more in the next few years. I'm trying to decide whether I should by a travel system or just buy a separate car seat and a lighter-weight stroller. What are the pros and cons?

Answer
I have to disagree with most on the answeres..sorry guys. I registered for the travel system and loved it , but it didn't last long. The stroller is very bulky and didn't fit in my trunk (mid-size sedan) , the carseat is also very small. My daughter is 3 1/2 months and barely fits in the infant carrier anymore. I went to Babies r' us the other day to look for a new stroller that folds up more compact and spoke to 3 different mothers and they all agreed. Yesterday I went and bought the Peg Perego stroller which is good from infancy through toddler , and I switched to a convertible carseat , also good until around 4 years of age.

The pros of a travel system are that is it way more convenient to transport the baby in and out of the car while still in the carseat.

The con is that once your baby hits around 15 lbs. the carrier can get very heavy to carry around. Also the strollers tend to be a little bulkier.

The pros of buying separate is that the carseat will last for years , and you have a wider variety of stroller to pick from , lightweight and compact , or a more expensive trendy one.

The cons of buying separate are that you have to physically take the baby in and out of the carseat , which can get annoying if you have a light sleeper.

Good Luck!

buybuybaby.com has a great selection of strollers!

Car seat - infant only or convertible (pro/con)?

Sunshine M

Infant (backward facing only) or Convertable (backward, switching to front facing) carseat...

Given that a the price of a Convertable is slightly more and you get way longer use out of it, what benefits are there to make it better to do an infant only seat and then buy a second for front facing only?

If you did go with the one convertible carseat only, what were the challenges you found doing so?

Answer
Actually you CAN use a convertible seat while your baby is a newborn given they are over 5 lbs. However, it may just be too big and uncomfortable for your baby at that young age.

We had both. Used an infant carrier until our son was 8 months old and then switched to a convertible seat. Luckily, both were gifts so we didn't need to purchase either but our convertible seat was only around $100 and our travel system(infant carrier and stroller) was only around $130 so neither were too terribly expensive.

The only benefit to the infant carriers are they are easier to work when your baby is smaller(i.e. if baby has fallen asleep in the car). But this all depends on the family as some parents choose to use a sling or soft carrier for their baby instead of toting them around in the car seat.

Please tell me about your Chicco Cortina travel system?

Buda411

I am looking fw to getting the Discovery system. I have seen several Mom's in the area with the stroller and they seem to love it. If you have one please tell me what you love about it, thanks.

Answer
I have the Cortina travel system. My baby isn't due for another couple weeks, so I haven't used it yet. But when I compare it to other travel systems it just seems so much better. The stroller was really easy to put together (I did it myself, which is saying a lot because I'm a little challenged when it comes to those things). It seems to have a really smooth ride, and it folds up and opens very easily. The basket underneath is pretty big, plenty of room for a diaper bag even when the stroller is fully reclined. The car seat is great too. It's a little heavier than some other models, but it doesn't seem too bad. The base was very easy to install in the car, and it doesn't take up a lot of room. The seat itself seems really sturdy and comfortable for the baby, and I really like the material.
I hope my little one likes it as much as I do.

Baby registry must haves?

New Mom

I'm finishing up my baby registry. As a first time mom-to-be, I'm not sure if I have everything or not. I have the basics but what are some often overlooked must haves or essentials? Thanks for your answers!

Answer
well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the end of the brush, they come in diff colors mixed with white and have a great nip brush in the handles....
drying racks--again, i really like munchkins...
formula mixer: i like dr brown's formula pitcher bc you don't shake it it is only abo

in your opinion? i want to have one, but need advice on people with them or anything just to know what you like best. If you have a website or anything that would be useful. It will be a boy and i want something tan or brown with blue or green.

Answer
I have the Graco travel system and I love it. The car seat comes with two bases and the stroller works great. It's a big system, but I found it held a giant diaper bag, the baby and lots of drinks and snacks.

Graco also has one of the highest safety ratings.

This is the one I have: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3420746

It comes in browns and blues.

Travel system? Stroller? Car seat? Convertable car seat??? Help!?

Evie

My husband and I are overwhelmed with choices. We are both graduate students and expecting our first baby in August. We need a stroller and we need a car seat, but we are puzzled. Is the travel system a must have item? Can we just buy a stroller and a convertable car seat? Do we have to bring a car seat in the hospital when the baby is born? Then, does it have to be a car seat for babies or we can use a convertable car seat? I hope I'm making sense. :) Thank you so much for your help!!!

Answer
First off let me say go with GRACO no matter which type of carseat u choose!!! They have a great selection, super safety ratings, and nice prices!

I always had the infant seats for my babies because u can take them out and into stores or any other place u need to go. U can set them down and have both hands free, plus u can move the baby without waking them! As far as travel systems you can get the set if u really like the pattern and save a little money too. U dnt have to buy a travel system though just get a car seat now cause u DO need one to leave the hospital (convertable or infant it dsnt matter). U can always get a stroller later.

Convertable car seats are nice but just don't offer the versitility that the infant seats do, plus when u take the baby out of the car you'll have to hold her because u have no where to set her. U can use the infant seats on store carts but their not the cleanest and sometimes the don't even have them! U could get the infant carrier and use it until the babys around 10 or 11 months then switch to a convertable one, just make sure u keep it facing the rear until ur little one is a year old.

Good luck with ur new baby!!! If go to gracobaby.com ull find all the info that u need, that's where I got mine!

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?

highgoals2

Where can I find car seat/stroller travel systems for girls that are NOT pink and under $200?
I live in northern Indiana. I can order online (for stores that offer online purchases)

Answer
Things to consider. Why? I mean, except for transporting your baby in the car, a car seat should not be used for things like riding in the stroller, or on shopping carts, or things like that. It comes from the studies done in the last year or so that shows that a baby left to sleep or sit in an inclined position for too long can get into an oxygen lowered state. Ie, it's not good for them to be in an inclined position like a car seat for longer than 2 hours full in a day, until they're older than about 6 months old.

Now, since recalls done on strollers are far less than recalls done on car seats, you can get the stroller from someone selling second-hand (just doublecheck recall lists) and get a better car seat. The Chicco brand stroller, for instance, lays flat, making it usable from newborn on up. :) On Ebay, I can see a few for under $100 (make sure they say fully reclining.) I'm sure you could find some at Craigslist as well. :) Otherwise, you could consider using a baby chest carrier for the first few months until your baby is old enough (3-6 months) to sit at a slight incline, then you can get a stroller that nearly reclines all the way.

If you do that, my favorite travel system is the Baby Trend, at least to recommend to people. It's under $200, the car seat is one of the top safety rated (though the buckles are a pain in the neck I'll warn you now), and the stroller is a jogger that you can use as a stroller. I LOVE ours. They recline far enough back for about 2+months, so I wouldn't put a newborn in it, but if you can last the 2 months then it lasts to 40lbs. Only negative is that the basket is only rated to carry 5lbs, so you can't bring a huge diaper bag with you (or if you do you have to carry it.)

Shoot though. If you're dead set on a travel system, you can always find someone selling the stroller that goes with a travel system, buy that for a cheaper price, and then use the rest of the money to get the car seat, and get it cheaper that way. But I'm not a fan of travel systems. To me it seems like it ropes folks into thinking a baby should sleep in the car seat and it's just not safe.

Is there anything to stop my pregnant wife travelling to UK on tourist visa?

CJ

Is there anything to stop my pregnant wife travelling to UK on tourist visa?
if child born in uk is he uk citizen? do i have right to live in uk?

Answer
Unless either you or your wife is a British citizen, your child cannot be a British citizen even if it is born in the UK. British citizenship is not granted as a result of being born in the UK, but as a result of at least one the parents being British citizens.

Even if one of the parents is a British citizen, and therefore able to pass on their British citizenship to the child, there are no parental rights available to the non EEA national parent to live in the UK.

If your wife is pregnant, the immigration authorities may refuse her leave to enter unless she has a medical visitors visa and has proven to the authorities that adequate arrangements have been made for her to have the baby privately while in the UK.

If she attempts to deliver the baby on the NHS, she will not have been referred to a hospital through the NHS system by her registered GP in the UK and therefore she will be billed for the process. She can expect to pay between £3,000 and £15,000 depending on the ease of birth and level of ongoing care required.

Even if one of you is a British citizen, unless you are returning to live in the UK permanently you cannot access the NHS for anything other than emergency healthcare. Even UK citizens must be residents here to qualify for free NHS healthcare.

when is a newborn old enough to travel by plane?

Answer
As long as your child has had a check-up with the doctor and everything is fine, your child will be safe to fly almost immediately. Some airlines will only take them once they are 2 weeks old, some will take them as young as 24-48 hours old. Check with your specific airline though to confirm.

If he/she has even a slight cold, the pressure in his/her ears during take-off and landing (even if you do the precaution methods) could leave his ears aching for days after the flight.

Most doctors recommend that if anyone is sick (such as being stuffed up or already having an earache), not to take the flight because of the potential damage to the ears. I know my husband and other pilots do not work if they are sick because of this danger.

If it is an international flight you will need a passport and possibly a visa for your child as well. Verify what travel documents you will need in advance to make sure you have everything.

FAA regulations currently allow children under the age of two to fly free of charge as "lap children" (not required to have their own seat).

The Flight Attendants should place you in a front seat where you will have more room. Depending on the airline and length of flight, the Flight Attendants might give you a bassinet that attaches to the front wall to put your child in (however you can not uses this during taxi, take-offs, landings, or turbulence).

This is not the safest way for a child to fly and the airlines recommend children to have their own seat with a child safety device.

2.) I advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System) because it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, will help your child sleep, and gives both of you the opportunity to relax a bit.

A CRS is a hard-backed child or infant safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

In order to be certified for use on an airplane, the car seat has to met the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Check the labels on the side of your car restraint for a sticker (words will be printed in red) for verification that your seat is safe for airplane use.

If he/she is not nursing, give your child a bottle to drink (formula, water, (juice for older babies)- it doesn't matter) or a pacifier.

You can also bring a limited amount of baby food onto the plane with you. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

4.) Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your child, such as comfort things such as books and a few toys, and one or two comfort things, such as a favorite blankie or stuffed animal.

Just remember the new law regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use.

You should be respectful of other passengers and always change your child's diaper in the restroom. They do have diaper bed changers in there, although they can be a little small.

7.) Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up.

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

traveling by plane with three month old baby, any tips to make it smooth?

Answer
I've been flying internationally and domestically with my children since they were 2 months (now 8, 6, & 4 months). At least three trips a year are the children and I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. In addition to that, we do another 8-10 international and domestic flights a year as a family. I have never had any problems with my children on any of the flights. Here are a few tips and suggestions:

1.) You will need to have all your baby's documents in order. It is a good idea to keep a copy of his notarized birth certificate with you. Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up. Another thing you should consider bringing with you is your childs immunization book. That way if any emergency should arise while you are on vacation (no matter where you are) the treating physician will at least have some verifiable information to go on. This book also usually includes what your child is allergic to, and some small but very helpful notes from your doctor. Verify what travel documents you will need in advance to make sure you have everything.

2.) Infants up to the age of 2 are free on domestic flights, and only charged taxes on international flights if you hold them as a lap baby, meaning that he will have to sit in your lap the entire time.

Try to book a bulkhead (front) seat where you will have more room, and a bassinet. Bassinets are limited, and not available on every flight. If the bassinet is available (they can only be used in bulkhead seats) it will attach to the front wall for you to put your child in (however you can not use this during taxi, take-offs, landings, or turbulence).

This is not the safest way for a child to fly and the airlines recommend children under 40lbs have their own seat with a child safety device - a CRS (Child Restraint System) - because it is safe for the child (especially during turbulence), makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, will help your child sleep, and gives both of you the opportunity to relax a bit. A CRS is a hard-backed child or infant or child safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

In order to be certified for use on an airplane, the car seat has to met the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Check the labels on the side of your car restraint for a sticker (words will be printed in red) for verification that your seat is safe for airplane use. Almost all car seats pass this requirement.

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. You should call your airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats.

If you haven't booked a separate seat for your child, be nice on check-in and see if they can "block" the seat next to you. They will then only use it if they absolutely need it. This way you can get a seat for your child free (but only if it is available, and that won't be know until last minute).

3.) You can take a stroller and gate check it. It will not count towards your checked luggage. This means that you will be able to use it all the way up until the time that you board, and one of the handlers will take it from you at your departure gate, tag it, and put it in a special compartment for you. When you exit the plane, it will be waiting for you at the door as well.

4.) Not all children have a problem with the pressure changes in their ears. If yours does however you'll want to know how to help. For take-offs and landings (the WHOLE way up, and starting from the BEGINNING, or TOP of descent), the best ways to alleviate ear pressure are to:

*If your child is nursing, nurse him
*Give him something to drink (formula, water)
*Give him a pacifier to suck on
*Place hot damp towels (usually like the ones distributed to first and business class before take-off and landing to freshen up with - just ask a flight attendant for them) or paper towels that have been soaked in hot water and wrung out, at the bottom of two paper or styrofoam cups, then hold the cups over the ears
*Gently but with some pressure, rub his neck repeatedly from the chin to the base of the neck. This will cause a swallowing motion that will relieve pressure build-up in the ears.

5.) As long as your child is with you, you are able to take as much formula, breast milk, regular milk, or juice that you will need for you child for the duration of the time you will spend in the airport and on the flight (as long as it is within reason). And no, you will NOT have to taste it - no matter what form you bring it in.

All that you must do is:

1. Separate the milk from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size (1 liter) zip-top bag.
2. Declare you have the items to one of the Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
3. Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm.

New regulations also allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz (100ml), -OR- beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food, yogurt, cheese, puddings, etc. with you also as long as they are in containers less than 3oz (100ml)
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the Flight Attendants will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

6.) Keep your diaper bag well stocked with plenty of diapers, wipes, ointments and other essential things. Just remember the new law regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm
You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use. One thing I always like to carry with me is hand sanitizer! I always wipe the trays down with that (followed by a baby wipe) and use it for my kids after taking them to the bathroom (even though they wash their hands). I know that airplane bathrooms are not the cleanest, so that is why I try to be vigilant.

Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your child. You will need this in case he gets sick, spills something on himself, or in case your luggage gets lost. Bring any medications that you might need for your child should he gets sick or that he takes regularly. Remember that if they are not prescription medications, the 3oz (100ml) rule applies to them and they must be kept in a clear plastic bag.
http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making him sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well. I have also seen where it backfires; a parent gives their child a dose of Benedryl to make them sleep, but instead it gets the child more hyper and the parents get absolutely no rest on the flight (and neither does anyone else).

You should be respectful of other passengers and always change your child's diaper in the restroom. They do have diaper bed changers in there, although they can be a little small. Usually the bathrooms with the diapers beds are the handicap ones (they usually tend to be toward the rear of the plane), so they tend to be a little bit bigger and it does help. I also know some people who say that instead of using the changing table, they say to put the toilet seat down, use the toilet as a seat for yourself, and lay the baby across your knee to change their diaper. To make it easier on yourself, make sure that you undress your baby so that he has just a diaper on while at your seat. Grab your diaper, wipes, and ointment or baby powder (whatever you use for changing your childs diaper) and head to the bathroom. This will help to make the procedure faster and easier. Try to change your childs diaper as close to boarding as possible. This will help to make you baby feel fresh and more comfortable for take-off (which could also mean less problems).

7.) Make sure to pack one or two comfort things such as a favorite blankie or stuffed animal. I always bring a small pillow and blanket from home for my children (even now) because I know 100% that they are clean, and my children are accustomed to them.

8.) Don't worry about what the other passengers are going to think or say should your baby cry. This will only add stress, which your child can pick up on, and it could make him cry longer and harder. Instead, just relax, and handle the situation like you would if you were at home. Most times the other passengers are very understanding anyways and some will even try to help you. Which reminds me, if help is offered, take it.

I wrote a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives security rules and regulations for the US, EU, UK, and Australia, offers tips and tricks for the travel, etc. http://www.angelfire.com/jamiehassen79/flying_children.html

I am looking for a travel system for my new baby. However, I am looking for a jogging stroller. ?

J K

There doesn't seem to be that many out there that are around $200.00. Any suggestions, or can anyone suggest one for me to look at. Thanks
I understand the difference, however, there are a few "travel systems" that include a jogging stroller vs., a traditional one. For the women who bought them seperately, how did you now they would work together, I'm trying to find them on line, and they don't have like a if you buy this jogging stroller you should buy this infant car seat. thanks

Answer
I have this jogging stroller and have really like it. It has held up great, I use it everyday, it is easy to maneuver, and my daughter is comfortable in it.

*This jogging stroller says it accommodates all the major brands

Baby jogging stroller suggestions?

tampopo

I am a first time mom. I like to run and be active, so I want to get a stroller that accommodates newborn/infant/toddler (to save money) that I can jog with.
Do I need a head support for newborn/infant? Or would I have to get a set that goes with a carseat for newborns (will they be supported enough just with a head support?
Pricewise I am looking to spend about $200..

I was looking at "Baby Trend Expedition LX Jogging Stroller - Gracie" at babies r us but wasn't sure if that would be ok for newborn..?

I'm so lost, I need help!!

Answer
Hi and Congratulations on your upcoming birth! I hope I can help you out getting the best stroller for your active lifestyle.

The Baby Trend Expedition LX is a good choice for all you mentioned. It can take a car seat as well when your baby is under six months old.

I do, however, want to emphasize that you should not jog with a baby until they have full head and neck control, which is a minimum of 6, preferably 8 months of age.

With that said, I'd like to suggest another stroller in your price range that is well within your budget: an InStep Safari or Grand Safari.

InStep Safari strollers are compatible with major brands of infant car seats, such as Chicco, Graco and Baby Trend, so you can turn this into a travel system.

The InStep official website has the Safari listed at a suggested retail price of $129.99 and the Grand Safari is $169.99.

Take a look at the link below that gives you a full review and accurate information about each Safari model with all the features you get, photos and testimonials, as well as where to find the best price.

I hope that this helps you in your search. Carefully compare the Safari with the Baby Trend Expedition - both are excellent choices.

Twins......stroller help?

Q. I am looking for a double stroller travel system for twins. Do they make the double stroller that fits both car seat carriers at the same time? I have been looking every where for one that does that and all I can find is the kind the only fits in front not back.

Does anyone know if the car seat on a double stroller fits in the front and back?

I hope I explained correctly.

Chicco Side by Side Twin Stroller or Graco?

Toni L

I am going to purchase a stroller for my Sister in law who is having twins. I personally use the travel system by Chicco, came with the stroller, car seat ect...but she is having twins and told me she wants an umbrella stroller since her husband is military and they travel alot, plus her car is a Nissan Versa with a small trunk...so umbrella twin stroller it is! Now I do like the chicco stroller as it can be used from 0-24 months with the seat reclining, but the graco does the same thing....I have never used graco, but it seems good too. Also, I am going to purchase her a baby trend double travel frame for her twin car seats (a surprise she doesn't know yet) so do you think that chicco car seats would fit the frame? I have a chicco car seat so maybe I should just take it over to babysrus, but if anybody has the travel frames by baby trend please give me a heads up if it will fit the chicco seat as well. Thanks for your help!

Answer

baby car seat/stroller buy tips????????

nite a

All right, i am expecting my first baby this summer and wants to start shopping around. What all stuff should i buy.
1. Should I get a travel system kit or buy individual baby car seat and a stroller?
2. What about cribs? convertible or regular crib?
3. what other high priority stuffs are there in the list during first few months?

Answer
1. Do it individually. You may decide that a convertible car seat will save you money in the long run, and even if you go with an infant seat you have to limit the time they're in it and not let them sleep in it, so using it in the stroller just increases the risks of SIDS. Also, if money is a consideration (when isn't it?) then most strollers aren't recalled and you can find a used one on craigslist or one on sale without worrying about whether it's car seat compatible. Try out every stroller you consider buying btw. I find the large wheeled ones are better for getting over curbs, into parks, over grass and sand, etc.

2. If you can find a regular one you're better than I. :P Almost all cribs are convertible now, and if you use a toddler bed for a while it can save you a bit of money, but by the time they get old enough to fit into a normal bed the wood will be so dinged up and such that you're not going to really want to keep it. If you do regular, you can skip the toddler bed and go right to a twin-sized. If you do convertible you can hang off a bit longer and use it as a toddler bed, and that saved room for us.

3. I would recommend looking into a good baby sling/carrier. Like the Ergo. It's so much nicer and it's better for their development to be held close to you where you can talk to them, kiss their forehead, feed them if you want, or just walk around doing chores in the house while they have colic and won't be put down. I found that a baby in the Ergo and bouncing on my exercise ball actually worked better than anything else for colic.

Do they make side by side double strollers that also work as travel systems?

Samantha S

I have a 3 year old and will be having our second baby in a couple of months. I am looking for a side by side double stroller but I still want the travel system feature for the new baby. Do they make this and if so where is a good place to find one? Babies R Us, Wal-mart, Target etc

Answer
The Peg Perego Aria Twin stroller with the 60/40 split is able to accomodate an infant seat on the 60 side. I have an Aria Twin stroller with 50/50 seat split (I have twins). They only make the 60/40 split now. But it's a great great side by side. I loved mine. It's super light weight, the basket underneath is huge and I never had any problems getting through doors with it.

Check out http://www.albeebaby.com they have strollers at huge discount and quite often free shipping.
