My husband and I are thinking of buying the Concord stroller/travel system. Anyone have experiences/advice?

The travel system comes with lots of options. I think its pretty pricey and before we make the investment, I wanted to hear from other parents who have used it and bought it. We are looking at the Fusion and the Neo, I am not sure which one is better and which carrier options (ion vs. intense and sleeper vs. scout) are better.

Answer
Pricier does not mean better. My husband and I both used snugglies but for strollers we would go to the stores and test them out for ourselves and knew that we needed a compartment for diaper bag, bottles, a cup holder, and most important shading for a baby. If there are alot of bugs where you live then a net for the stroller. It was not huge and it wasnt cheap or pricey. They were like 39-99 to 59.99. Also check out on line the best strollers or even stroller recalls. Thats important. You dont need a limousine for your baby who is going to outgrow it fast. Just go and test them out.

what is the best stroll/ carseat out there for the price?

I can't spend more than $300 on the set but i do want nice and Safe (safety above all), my dad has a graco (he just had a baby in march) and he likes it but i want to get some other opinions!

Answer
Graco is the best way to go in my opinion!
I love the Quattro Tour Deluxe travel systems (car seat, base and stroller).

They range from $220-$260 and have the snugride 32 or 35 carseat which means the carseat can be used until 32lbs or 35lbs or 32in which is better than the 22lb and 29in. The stroller also holds up to 50lbs vs. the old 40lbs. PLUS they have a huge basket!

I will say that the stroller is pretty big and the carseat is a little heavier than some (by about 2lbs) but I think it is worth is for the extra safety and after the first few months you will probably just be taking the baby in and out of the carseat and comfort of your little bundle of joy!

After Graco I think Peg Perego is wonderful as well but the carseats only go up to 30lbs and 30in and it is very expensive, about $250 for the carseat and the stroller is almost $370!

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and were looking to go pram shopping over Christmas as there might be sales on. I'm looking at the bugaboo chameleon and the silver cross surf. My bf and me are willing to pay for the chameleon but we want it to last a few years. Our other option is to buy the surf a lot cheaper and buy another pushchair in a year or two. How long did you use your chameleon for? It is the travel system that appeals to both of us.

Answer
my daughter had 6 strollers in her 4 years of life, lol

ok 1st one she had travel sistem,i hated because it wasn't nice, all mothers around seems to me they have same and was so bored. Also when my daughter was 14 months it was hard for me to push her in so i sold travel sistem then i got for heumbrellala stroller for $30
Couple months later i hate it,it was very bad for me to push her and was small for her
So then i got for her cheaper umbrella -$20 and so she use it for a year.
When she was around 3 ,umbrella was so dirty and could notot wash it so i trow it in the garbage.
My daughter was seems not good walker and she loved just sit in the stroller so i got her new umbrella but few months later it broke.
6 months b4 her 4tbirthdayay i got for her PERAL stroller for kids from birth to 5 years old.I got this one, because we planning to have baby#2 and so this one will last for 4-5 years and it was on sale so was cheaper than even we were ready to put on
I just want to add also that my daughter hd also huge stroller at home special for rocking her and for naps (shcouldn'tnt sleep without it and was g8 for 3 years )

If u r looking for good stroller, choose the one which will hold your child not for 1 year but for atleast 4

What pram would you get for a baby boy?

F E

what pram would you get for a newborn baby boy??
Pictures please :) thanks :D

Answer
I have had 4 so far.

The 1st one was a century travel system that was rubbish and to hard for my son
2nd was a Graco Mosaic that was okay until the brake almost stopped working
3rd was a Mothercare Trenton Duluxe this was brilliant to start of with. Many different compartments for things and very light to push. But the back lever was getting stuck to often
4th and final one is a Sliver Cross Linear Freeway. this is one is the best for me son. You can have it parent facing or forward facing and he just loves it. You can adjust the handle and the hood goes over quite far

Mothercare 1

How do they know that the LHC wont create a black hole and then swallow up the planet.?

baby travel systems black on Graco Baby Spree Classic Connect Travel System Stroller w/ Infant Car ...
baby travel systems black image
Q. And even if they know the risk is real, they would probably play down the danger because their need to feed their scientific curiosity is too intense to just let go of the LHC's construction. It took what, 20 years, and 8 billion dollars just to build the thing? What if they created something like a black hole, they wouldnt be able to just turn it off. Just out of curiosity, how long would it take a black hole to swallow up the earth?

Answer
The speeding particles will travel the full LHC ring 11,245 times a second, travelling at 99.99 percent the speed of light. At this rate, some 600 million collisions will take place every second.

If the public were aware of the fact that Switzerland is home to a history of EARTHQUAKES albeit minor, this project would be put on hold.

Until we have a backup of planet Earth, called EARTH 2 and EARTH 3, on the moons and Mars, as contingency backups, I'ld petition them to put this project on the back burner. Where is the Ethics Committee on this project??! This is akin to walking a tightrope holding a 747.

The facility cost $8 billion, $531 million of which was contributed by the United States. More than 8,000 scientists from almost 60 countries will collaborate on LHC experiments.

Thing is, with over 160+ moons in our solar system, couldn't they have done this elesewhere? The Earth is for babies, kittens and puppies as far as I'm concerned.

They should spend the $8 billion on creating "dynamos" on other moons and planets instead. Let them go knock themselves out building Superconducting Rings into the 160+ moons in our solar system to protect future space explorers from cosmic rays.

Where to buy Graco car seat/stroller replacement covers?

lawyer180

Our Graco travel system was left out in the rain overnight and now the cloth parts have some black spots, which I suspect to be mold. I've washed them, but the spots are still there and I think I'd rather just buy new. Does anyone know where I can order these? Or in the alternative, does anyone have a trusted method for killing the mold so it's safe to use around baby again? Thanks.

Choosing a pram/ travel system is driving me crazy! There are so many!?

baby travel systems 3 wheeler on Trendy Baby - Bristol - Prams, Pushchairs, Car Seats, Nursery, Bathing ...
baby travel systems 3 wheeler image

GemTTC #2

I am getting so confused as to which is the best. Plus I live in Spain where they are so expensive for a cheap plastic looking one so I will order it over the internet from an English site.

So, what buggy/pram/travel system did you buy? What you recommend? I am planning on buying a decent enough one because its my first baby but don't want to spend more than 300pounds.

Thank you! Your advise is really appreciated!

Answer
Hello hun, I have to disagree with your 3 answers both Graco and Chicco are TERRIBLE brands.
The 3 worth buying are the Quinny Buzz 3 or 4 depending on whether you favour 3 wheelers or 4, The Bugaboo Bee which is the lightest smallest travel system on the market, not to mention the most popular, and last and my personally least favourite is the MacLaren XT.
I personally shopped around and got an amazing deal on the Bugaboo Bee.. it included the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix car seat, the cocoon, the footmuff, rain cover and adapters all for under £500 ... there are various places on line doing deals on the Bee so dont let the advertised prices put you off... Try this site http://ladybugsbaby.easywebstore.co.uk/Bugaboo-Bee-Newborn-Package_AICQZ.aspx or elsewhere.
Graco are cheap and badly made, you are also unable to use good quality carseats with them, and you will most likely regret buying one so much that you will end up buying something to replace it.
Maclaren, i personally dont like, but many people find after 6 months to a year they are buying a lightweight stroller in addition to their travel system. That is why the MacLaren XT or XSI are good options as you can use them for your baby and then later as a lightweight stroller. The Bee does this too and i prefer it by far.
We also looked on Kiddicare and loved the MaxiCosi Loola (NOT the loola up) but thought it might be too heavy, and big. but it is fab!

Hope that helps... xx

I'm looking for a 3-wheeled stroller?

Danni

My husband and I are looking to get a 3-wheeled stroller, but there are so many out there I don't know which to go with. I was hoping someone owning a 3-wheeled stroller could help me out? I've looked at different makes/brands but these reviews are driving me nuts!
So, if you own one...
What brand do you have? Do you like it? Would you recommend it to others? I love the travel systems, but I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be one. Some brands I'm looking into so far are: Mia Moda Energi stroller, BabyTrend Expedition Travel System, Graco Trekko, and also the Jeep 3-wheeled stroller.
Is anybody able to weigh in with their opinions?

Answer
I would recommend going to a store like babies-r-us and trying some out. We have a Baby Trend and honestly I do like it. But I don't recommend a jogging stroller until they're 6 months up. As far as I know, there isn't a 3 wheeled stroller that lays flat, and newborns need that. It's also not good to rely on the car seat because the slope that they're kept at can interfere with breathing (SIDS recommendations are to keep the baby sleeping on a flat surface.) My favorite combo? A nice ergonomic carrier (like the Ergo or Moby-Wrap) for the first 6 months, then a nice 3-wheeled stroller with off-road capabilities once they're able to sit up. :) I did that with my son, pushing his sister in the stroller, and it was WONDERFUL, they're so little and snuggly against you at that age there's no reason to need a travel system or even use a stroller for them. And biologically they want to see your face and snuggle up by you, not be in a stroller, until they're able to physically start exploring a bit then they seem to like a stroller more.

It also sort of depends what you're using it for. If you're jogging with your stroller, then the Baby Trend isn't a good one because the front-wheel is loose or you can lock it in place, so for serious joggers that front wheel tends to come loose with time and wobble, not good. If you're going off-road though, then I prefer one like the Baby Trend because you can leave the front wheel so it turns and it's not hard to control, also the wheels are bike-wheels so you can get all-terrain bike wheels or just carry a bike-repair kit and if you get a flat then it's not hard to fix. If you're wanting city-type living, one handed folding, etc, then one like the Britax B-Agile will work, with smaller wheels.

I have never liked the Jeep 3 wheeler, every one I tried just didn't work for us. I like my Baby Trend because of the big wheels and how easy they are to fix, but don't like how it's not really great for jogging, still we use ours mostly off-roading. In stores, the long profile can get in the way, but the narrow width makes it so that anywhere I can walk through comfortably, the stroller easily fits.

So really it all depends on what you want it for. If you want it for jogging and exercise, get a real jogger with a fixed front wheel. If you want it for city, then the big wheels and long profile can get in the way on buses and in stores, the smaller wheeled varieties will serve you better. If you want it off-road (sand, big curbs, trails, rocks, etc), the big wheels and turning front wheel capabilities are far better. If you plan on having more kids, consider things like the Britax B-Ready (ridiculously expensive, but you can find other brands that do the same thing) where there's 4 wheels, but very maneuverable and able to be adjusted for a flat pram-like bed or 2 kids riding in it.

Sure. Solution is there. There are experts in health category. Your doubts will be cleared. please re-post this question again to the health category for getting more answers.

How do I get off some sort of watch list?

Q. I love to travel. I visited a sick uncle and family recently and had to transit in Dubai to come back home. I was only gone for 10 days. When I checked in at my point of departure, they told me they could not get me a boarding pass from DBX - JFK. When I went to DBX transfer desk, they told me I had to go to the gate. When I got to the gate, they printed me a boarding pass but when they were entering my info, they were getting some sort of message and I had to wait while a supervisor made a call and entered something in the system at which point I was cleared. I am obviously not on the no-fly list because I was allowed to board the plane but how do I avoid the hassle the next time. It sucks to be me. Worst was I left my kids for the first time and was eager to come back home to my babies.

Answer
You wrote, "I am obviously not on the no-fly list because I was allowed to board the plane... It sucks to be me."

Oh, please, just be grateful they let you fly at al!

A lot of perfectly innocent people have to fly into either Mexico or Canada and then cross over the border by car or bus because they're not even allowed to get on the plane at ALL, so, if you think YOU got hassled, just be grateful you're not THEM!!

Good luck!... âº

What factors fueled the rise of the new suburbs surrounding Americaâs cities? What were some positive and negative effects associated with the rise of the suburbs? What factors caused the suburbs to be overwhelmingly racially white, creating a 'segregated landscape'? Can you predict any problems this might cause in future years?

Answer
the web page (below) provides: An Overview of Suburbs
The History and Development of Suburbs
What are Suburbs?
Suburbs are the communities surrounding cities that are usually made up of single-family homes, but are increasingly including multifamily homes and places like malls and office buildings. Emerging in the 1850s as a result of a fast rising urban population and improving transportation technology, suburbs have remained a popular alternative to the city even today. As of 2000, about half the population of the United States lived in suburbs.
Suburbs are generally spread out over greater distances than other types of living environments. For instance, people may live in the suburb in order to avoid the density and untidiness of the city. Since people have to get around these vast stretches of land automobiles are common sights in suburbs. Transportation (including, to a limited extent, trains and buses) plays an important role in the life of a suburban resident who generally commutes to work.

People also like to decide for themselves how to live and what rules to live by. Suburbs offer them this independence. Local governance is common here in the form of community councils, forums, and elected officials. A good example of this is a Home Owners Association, a group common to many suburban neighborhoods that determines specific rules for the type, appearance, and size of homes in a community.

People living in the same suburb usually share similar backgrounds with regard to race, socioeconomic status, and age. Often, the houses that make up the area are similar in appearance, size, and blueprint, a layout design referred to as tract housing, or cookie-cutter housing.

History of Suburbs
Though they appeared on the outskirts of many world cities in the early 1800s, it was only after the general implementation of electric railways in the late 1800s that suburbs began to grow extensively, especially in the United States. Such a relatively cheap and quick method of transportation made it practical to travel from home to work (in the inner city) on a daily basis.
Early examples of suburbs include areas created for lower class citizens outside of Rome, Italy during the 1920s, streetcar suburbs in Montreal, Canada created during the late 1800s, and the picturesque Llewellyn Park, New Jersey, created in 1853.

Henry Ford was also a big reason why suburbs caught on the way they did. His innovative ideas for making cars cut manufacturing costs, reducing the retail price for customers. Now that an average family could afford a car, more people could go to and from home and work everyday. Additionally, the development of the Interstate Highway System further encouraged suburban growth.

The government was another player that encouraged movement out of the city. Federal legislation made it cheaper for someone to construct a new home outside of the city than to improve upon a preexisting structure in the city. Loans and subsidies were also provided to those willing to move to new planned suburbs (usually wealthier white families).

In 1934 the United States Congress created the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), an organization intended to provide programs to insure mortgages. Poverty struck everyone's life during the Great Depression (beginning in 1929) and organizations like the FHA helped to ease the burden and stimulate growth.

Rapid growth of suburbia characterized the post-World War II era for three chief reasons:

â¢The economic boom following World War II
â¢The need for housing returning veterans and baby boomers relatively cheaply
â¢Whites fleeing the desegregation of urban cities brought on by the civil rights movement (the "White Flight")
Some of the first and most famous suburbs in the post-war era were the Levittown developments in the Megalopolis.

Current Trends
In the United States more jobs are now located in the suburbs than in central cities as a result of the movement of commercial and industrial parks from the inside to the outside of the city. Express highways are constantly being constructed to and from major hubs or edge cities, and it is on these roads where new suburbs are being developed.
In other parts of the world suburbs do not resemble the affluence of their American counterparts. Due to extreme poverty, crime, and lack of infrastructure suburbs in developing parts of the world are characterized by higher density and lower standards of living.

One issue arising from suburban growth is the disorganized, reckless manner in which neighborhoods are built, called sprawl. Because of the desire for larger plots of land and the rural feel of the countryside, new developments are infringing upon more and more of the natural, uninhabited land. The unprecedented growth of population in the past century will continue to fuel the expansion of suburbs in the coming years.

March 1998 - Can't believe that it was 12 years ago! I graduated from Trent University in 1988 and then travelled extensively throughout Southeast Asia, Australia, Central and South America over the many years that followed. Returning to Bolivia in 1992 was amazing. To see where old friends from the exchange ended up was very enlightening. I have owned my own business (variety store & three baby products stores) since 1991 with my cousin. I live in Toronto and am seriously considering a move to the west coast to start up similar stores out there.

I would love to hear from anyone who was there in 1986.

July 2003 - Last night I received a phone call from CWY trying to update the past participant database. I quickly realized that it has been 17 years since the program. Tears welled up in my eyes after I got off the phone as the importance of the CWY experience sunk in deep. I have since traveled to 30+ countries on six continents. Much of this travel has revolved around my career as a Marine Biologist. I have specialized in sustainable development of small-scale artisanal fisheries and associated nearshore marine environments (seagrass, mangrove and coral reefs). I am presently living in Montreal and finishing my PhD in Marine Ecology at McGill University. I know that the CWY experience set me on a path to try and help make the world a better place and the time spent in Brighton, Ontario and Capinota, Cochabamba will never be forgotten. To all my fellow participants I would love to hear from you even if it takes another 17 years!

What things did you put on your registry?

.

I am so confused. I've got a little while to think about it but the more I look around the more confused I get. What types of things did you put on your registry?

- What things did you put on that were just great?
- What things do you wish you put on that you didn't?
- What things did you put on that were useless?

Thanks. I'm a first time mom and I'm starting to get overwhelmed with the amount of baby products that are out there.

I am having my ultrasound for anatomy/gender in the middle of July.

Answer
I know how you feel. I used to log onto my registries (with Target and Babies R' Us) several times per day to make changes, delete and add items... I was so obsessed.

First, depending on whether you will breast feed or bottle feed you can save yourself a lot of useless gifts. If you breastfeed, you don't need a bottle warmer--- even if you pump and store your milk, because you should warm your breast milk by setting the cold bottle in hot water for a couple of seconds.

Here are the gifts I registered for that I did not use or like:

1) Bottle warmer

2) Fisher Price Baby Papasan Seat (It vibrates, but doesn't bounce-- I reccommend the one Boppy makes instead). Babies are soothed by bouncing and this thing does not bounce, even though it is described as a "bouncer" online. My baby cried 95% of the time I tried to put him in this because it doesn't do anything but vibrate very little and play really soft music you can barely hear. The one time he enjoyed it I was bouncing it manually.

3)Drying Rack for Bottles- I did use this in the begining when I was pumping (my baby did not latch until second week), but even then it was just in the way-- If you breastfeed it isn't necessary.

4) Sling Style baby carrier- my baby was 9 lbs and 21 inches long. I used the sling once when he was 5 weeks old, when I tried after that he was too big and was uncomfortable (and so was I). I would wait to see how big your baby will be. I was told by Dr. that my baby would be 7 lbs.

5) Newborn clothing- you and your newborn will probably be home for most of the time it fits into Newborn and 0-3 month clothing. Depending on the season you give birth, it may be most convenient to have your baby wear onesies or gowns everyday (because of so many diaper changes). Right now my son wears only his diaper all day cause it's boiling hot in Los Angeles, CA. It is was a waste for me to register for all the cute newborn outfits cause he didn't wear any.

6) Diaper Genie- very inconvenient because it requires both your hands to open and twist. This is not possible if you are holding your baby and it takes too long if your baby is hysterically crying during a diapering.

7) Boppy Pillow- before I had a baby I always bought Boppy Pillow for anyone I knew who was pregnant for their baby shower. I breastfeed and I think I've used it twice. I could never find a comfortable position. I always felt like my baby was going to roll off of it and if I was sitting baby would end up too high for me to breastfeed. This could just be me. I would still recommend the product since I know so many mother who love it. Make sure you register for the actual pillow and not just the slipcover alone...it's a bit confusing if you do it online.

8) Dr. Brown bottles- I registered for a $50 set of bottles and used them for about 3-4 weeks until I learned about BPA and it's harmful affect on babies. This is what actually made me start to breastfeed more and stop using bottles to feed. Dr. Brown does sell BPA free bottles, but the clear ones are not BPA free. Do your research.

Things that were great:

1) A swing (Although buying size D batteries is a pain-- I think Fisher Price makes a plug-in swing now)

2) "Happiest Baby on the Block" DVD (Dr. Harvey Karp)- this saved my butt. I discovered it when baby was about 5 weeks old and I wish I would have watched it before he was born because it would have saved me a lot of sleepless nights.

3) Lots of onsies for lots of changes due to poopy accidents

4) A good quality infant travel system (car seat and base with matching stroller- Graco)

5) A white noise CD (your swing should have a variety of white noise buttons, but you will need a CD for home and car-- this really helps quiet baby and put him to sleep)

6) Bumbo seat- baby won't use it until about 3-3 1/2 months, but it is great to have one waiting.

Newborns don't need much, I've noticed. Register for lots of the basics diapers, wipes, first aid kit, lotions, soaps, blankets, bath items, and you'll get to know your baby's likes and dislikes and activity level once it is in the 3-6 month age for all the other toys and stuff. You should obviously register for all the things you know you'll end up having to buy, like a high chair, bedding, room decor, swing, stroller, car seat (I really recommend a travel system).

Regarding Diapers: I started with Pampers, because it is what the hospital gave, then I bought Huggies at Costco and my boy had an allergic reaction (there was a little red, maybe blood in his wee wee area). Doctor said there was no infection or blood in urine, so it was the diaper. I switched back to Pampers Sensitive. All babies are different and react differently to different products-- just be aware of the signs that your baby is allergic to something.

Also, most registries have like a list of suggested items to start off your registry, thats a good place to start!

Hope this helps, congrats!

What baby items did you find to be the most & least useful?

Malia's Mo

We just spent 2 hours in Babies R Us registering for my baby shower and we have over 200 items. I know I'm not going to get everything, and it was mainly just to show various gift options, but what items are absolute musts and what items can wait? This is my first baby so I haven't been able to test anything out yet. Thank you! =)

Answer
well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the end of the brush, they come in diff colors mixed with white and have a great nip brush in the handles....
drying racks--again, i really like munchkins...
formula mixer: i like dr brown's formula pitcher bc you don't shake it it is only abo

My husband and I are trying to get everything together for our baby girl coming in September. We already have crib, changing table, play yard with a built in bassinet, swing, and travel system (car seat and stroller). We just bought Avent bottles that go with the breast pump I will use. What else am I missing? How useful is a poppy pillow? Bumbo? Bouncer? Thanks in advance, any info is greatly appreciated :)

Answer
A boppy pillow is a must especially if u want to breast feed but not only to breastfeed but to hold the baby so your arms dont cramp up your going to need the swing and you should get the bouncer too for a place to put baby to sit when hes awake or for fun because they LOVE to bounce u should also get a baby carrier like babybjorn or some other brand a bath tub that has a hamock over it or a seat for newborns but not a bath sling cuz i bought one and had to return it cuz baby was slidding all over the place thats bassically all your gunna need for the first couple of months

Anyone ever had an ultrasound turn out to be wrong?

judever

I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks, (I'm now 29 weeks) and they said it was a girl. I'm thrilled. I wanted another girl.
BUT- Now that I have a closet full of pink, and pink crib set, and a purple carseat/travel system, I'm starting to get doubts. If this turns out to be a boy, I have nothing for him! It doesn't help that EVERY stranger that talks to me always says Oh, your having a boy! When I say no, they can't beleive it. I've been told that my stomach looks like a basketball and I'm carrying very low, so it must be a boy. Other's say that I haven't gained much weight, and I'm looking good so it must be a boy. I'm even craving meats and spicey food and that old wives tale says it's a boy too. The only thing that says girl was the 1 minute discussion during the ultrasound.
Has anyone ever had one be wrong?
I hate to care so much about old wives tales, but I can't seem to help it now!

Answer
With my second baby, the Dr said it was a girl for sure. We went out and bought everything pink. Both families bought all pink. We had to have an emergency ultrasound, and we found out exactly one month before HE was born that there was no way we were having a girl. We got a lot of strange looks when we were rushing to all the stores trying to exchange everything for blue.

As for the carrying a basketball, I am now and I just found out I am having a girl. I am 25 weeks and have only gained 4 lbs. The wives tales are not all that correct.

What is a good stroller for airline travel?

baby travel systems for small cars on Complete System Of Practical Book-keeping: Exemplified In Eleven ...
baby travel systems for small cars image

Kelly

I have a four month old and I do not want to hassle with taking my whole travel system on the plane. My in-laws have a car seat for us so all I need is something compact and easy that I can use for an infant, preferably that can go in the overhead or captain's closet. I love the travel system I have here at home so I do not want to spend more than like 100 dollars on this one b/c I won't use it much. Any suggestions?

Answer
I've done lots and lots of flying with my infant (he's nine months and we've been averaging a trip every two months) and I'm actually wondering why you don't want to bring your travel system? The airlines I have flown (Continental, Northwest, American) have all never said a peep to me about checking both my car seat and the stroller. I have a Snap n Go by Baby Trend (this was 60 dollars at BRU) which I LOVE simply because it is so light...but the only time that would be nice in an airport is when you have to lift it onto the conveyer belt to get xrayed. I have found the stroller incredibly handy because you can stow things in the basket and hang your carryon from the handle bars, etc. I don't know why you would want to bring a smaller stroller since the airlines have no problem with checking it at the gate...that means they do all the lifting.

What was your favorite and most used gift from your baby shower?

Cmeyer

I am curious what your favorite gift was and most used gift that you received from your baby shower? My favorite gift was probably the baby carrier and my most used would have to be between a travel system stroller and baby swing. I am trying to figure out a gift to get my cousin whose pregnant. I already know that her parents are getting a lot of gifts she will need for the baby. I also am wondering what smaller gifts you liked receiving?

Answer
Most practical was definitely an infant car seat from my friend. Cara grew out of it at about 7months, but I used it up until then and I'm definitely keeping it for #2. They are pretty expensive though, and you have to make sure that it's compatible with the car. This isn't small, but it was the most useful.

I have a baby blanket from when I was little, so it was sentimental receiving blankets. They're very basic, but useful and I appreciated them a lot. I got 17 of them though, so if you want to get your cousin something more unique, maybe you could monogram it.

Pacifiers, bottles, etc. all come in handy a lot, especially since Cara liked to throw her bottles to the floor and they would roll away somewhere we couldn't find them (until, of course, they started to smell...). Some good brands for these are Nuby, Graco, etc.

also, any type of organizer is great! I have a really cute one that I actually bought myself, it used to hold diapers and such now it holds bath toys, pull-ups and clothes.

What strollers frames are compatible with the Britax Chaperone Car Seat?

baby travel systems britax on ... | Spilling the Beans | Baby Gear, Toys, Strollers, Nursery Furniture
baby travel systems britax image

Bethney

Just purchased the Britax Chaperone car seat but don't want to shell out the big bucks for the matching stroller. I would like to purchase a universal frame like the Kolcraft Universal or The Snap n Go but I want to make sure it would be compatible before I buy.... Can anyone tell me from first hand experience which strollers work. Sometimes the websites list compatibility but they aren't always accurate.

Answer
Car Seat Strollers

Baby Trend Snap-N-Go
*Est. $65
Reviews say many traditional "travel systems," otherwise known as car seat stroller combinations, are too bulky and expensive, and that cheaper travel systems often have quality issues. The Baby Trend Snap-N-Go solves both problems. This model isn't a complete travel system. Rather, it's a metal frame with stroller wheels that will accommodate most brands of infant car seats. This is a great temporary choice for parents who plan to purchase a higher-quality stroller when the baby outgrows his infant car seat. The Baby Trend Snap-N-Go frame weighs about 16 pounds.

Graco SnugRider
*Est. $60
The Graco SnugRider is a stroller frame meant to accommodate a separately purchased Graco infant car seat. It weighs 12.5 pounds. The only big difference between the SnugRider and other stroller frames is that the Graco has an adjustable-height handle, a nice option for parents of differing heights. The Graco stroller frame is guaranteed to fit Graco car seats (though some parents say other brands also fit). If you plan to buy a top-rated Graco SnugRide or SafeSeat infant seat, the SnugRider frame is the way to go. If you have another brand of car seat, the Baby Trend Snap-N-Go stroller frame is the better bet.

Graco Metro Lite
*Est. $250
A stroller frame like the Baby Trend Snap-N-Go is a better choice than a full travel system, say reviews. That's because many parents eventually purchase a lighter, less bulky stroller anyway. However, if you like the coordinated look of travel systems, the Graco MetroLite pairs the top-rated Graco SnugRide infant seat with a matching lightweight stroller. At just under 18 pounds (without the car seat), the MetroLite isn't terribly heavy. Parents say that it maneuvers well and can be folded up with one hand. The MetroLite comes with a pivoting snack tray, windowed canopy and parent organizer tray with two cup holders. It also has a multi-position recline, and taller parents will appreciate the height-adjustable handle.

What are the best baby bottles and the best car seat for a new born?

S.B

I am due in november and I want to know what is the best CONVERTIBLE car seat for babies and what are the best bottles to use. I plan to breast feed but just in case if it does not work i will put him on formula. Thanks for the help.

Answer
I had the Graco Quattro Tour travel system and loved it. The stroller was great and the infant carrier carseat was really good too. The stroller was easy to fold, easy to lift and put into the car. The storage basket was great becuase it went down so that you can reach items in it while the baby was in the stroller. FYI - if the baby is in the carseat, and the carseat is in the stroller, you will not be able to access the storage basket unless it comes down. I LOVED this feature of the stroller. The carseat has a base, it uses latch if you have a newer car. It also is able to be used without the base, with a seatbelt alone. Most are this way. You will require an infant carrier carseat for the first few months before you can use a convertibe carseat.

As far as the convertible carseat goes, I LOVE the Britax Marathon. I got it when my older son outgrew the infant carrier. He used it until he was 2 1/2 (when my 2nd son outgrew his infant carrier) and my youngest got the Britax Marathon and I purchased a Britax Regent for the older one. We love the seat because of their safety rating and the kids love them because they are comfortable. They are a bit wider then most carseats, and they do cost more, but when it comes to the saftely of your children... is it worth spending a little more? I thought so.

As far as the bottles go... I LOVED the playtex bottles with the drop in liners (not the bags). This made preparing the bottle and cleaning them soooo much easier. Doesn't seem like a big deal now, but when your'e washing bottle after bottle, it helps. Just stock up on a bunch of nipples - and you're golden ;) I breast feed and used formula. I had NO problems with either child switching between the two. Could be that the nipple is more like the real thing. I don't know. They also had less gas because you push all the air out of the bottle by pressing on the liner. Pretty innovative if you ask me. But the important thing to remember is the nipple. It has to be as close to yours as possible. And make sure you make the baby latch ontothe bottle just as he/she would latch onto you. This makes going back and forth effortless.

Anyway, I found that they carry all of these items on Amazon. You can even shop around with Amazon with a bunch of their affiliated merchants. I like that because it saves me time price comparison shopping. Anyway, I also found this link for a giftcard for Amazon... Any little bit helps - childrens' items cost so much these days.

Hope this helps, sorry it's so long ;)

How do you feel about a national health care plan??

baby travel systems usa on Chico Travel System
baby travel systems usa image

dojopage

I'm talking about universal health care paid by the government (and your taxes) like the NHS in Great Britain.

I lived there for 7 years and both my children were born there - with my ante-natal care, two c-sections and one child in special care for a week I probably would have gone bankrupt in the USA - but over there I didn't pay 1 cent!

Do you think it could work over here??
In response to some of the answers, I just wanted to verify that I realize I paid higher taxes in the UK (did I ever!) - free health care is not literally free, but to me it's worth it to know that I could go to a doctor or emergency room and not worry about how I was going to pay the bill.
Also, I am coming from the perspective of a person who works full time and does not have the luxuries of cell phones, car loans, credit cards and satellite TV. We don't even have basic cable in my house! I'm just tired of handing over nearly half my paycheck for insurance premiums and then paying co-pay and deductibles on top.

Answer
There are a lot of assumptions here that are just plan wrong, here they are:

âI donât want to pay for people who choose not to pay for themselvesâ. I donât want to pay for other peopleâs irresponsibility either, but we are paying for it one way or the other. Why do you think we pay so much for coverage now? When folks donât have coverage they end up waiting till it is too late and end up going to the emergency room. The point they finally make it to the doctor their condition is so bad that the cost for fixing it is higher than if they took care of it right in the first place. Emergency room visits cost more than a routine visit to the doctor. Who pays for all this if they donât? We do! We pay for them with or without universal health coverage. Why do you think we pay so much for insurance? My wife and I are young and healthy, and we have a healthy baby boy. To have full coverage with Kaiser it costs us over $800 a month! In countries where they have universal coverage people donât even pay that much in a year!

We also pay for it when our Hospitals close because there isnât enough money to keep them open. We also pay when the government has to bail out the insurance companies when they go belly up. We also pay when our work force is threatened because people who need treatment arenât getting it. WE PAY ANYWAY!

âThat would be socialism, which I am againstâ. Yes it would be a social program, God forbid. Let us see what other social programs we suffer from: public schools, road maintance, the military, social security, the postal service, etc. Maybe we should just go back to living in caves?

âNot a good idea at all. Research the health care crisis in Canadaâ. Research the health care system here! We are in trouble, not because we have done things the Universal way but because we have taken the privatization route. You can find bad examples of anything if we look hard enough, but if we look for where the best medical system live, they are found in countries where a universal system is in place.

âIn the US we have the best health care in the worldâ. I wish this was true but it isnât. It may have been true 20 years ago, but the world has changed since then. Not only do they do it cheaper over seas but they do it better. I have seen the hospitals in France, I have seen the dentist offices in Thailand, and I have seen the pharmacies in Holland. We are falling behind. Going to a Dentist in Thailand is like getting in a time machine and traveling into the future. The maternities in France are like dieing and going to heaven; private rooms extended stays, service, etc. Drugs are cheaper, medical innovations abound, all over seas.

The USA is a joke when it comes to health care; we are rated 37th in the world. We have double the infant mortality than France. And drug costs are absurd here.

Letâs go Universal!

If you could be a 22-year fresh college graduate with no ties, what would you do differently in life?

Advisor

Say you're 22 years old and you just earned your bachelor's degree. You don't have a lot of debt, aren't committed to anyone, and have the world at your fingers. What would you do with your life, or what would you do differently with your life?

Answer
1) Wear SPF15 sunscreen every day, regardless of where in the world you are

2) If you havenât yet, get any and all necessary dental work done.

3) If you smoke, quit. If you drink more than 3 times a week, cut back to 2.

4) If you do any drugs, stop now. Youâve already had the most fun youâll have with them, the older you get the worse the people you hang out with will be, the lower they'll drag you, and the worse sh*t you'll try.

5) Take a year out and go travelling. South East Asia and then on to Australia or something. Europe is quite expensive these days, Eastern Europe not so much so.

6) Work out 3 times a week. If you donât already, start now or you'll never start and your health for the rest of your shortened life will suffer.

7) Got to the beach more, go for walks in a national park more, take up hiking or hill walking.

8) learn a new language - its awesome and opens up a much higher % of the worlds people to you, thatâs new ideas, culture, food, and sexual partners lol

9) Do voluntary work - Big brother/Sister, save the whales, anything.... sort out future karma with the world, ya know?

10) Start saving, soon as you get back from your year out. Open up a mid to low risk pension fund, and add to it EVERY WEEK OF EVERY MONTH....the difference it'll make to your life later, well, you wouldnât even believe it baby, seriously, its that important.

11) Learn how to do Kegel exercises, and do them every day..... no one wants to spend their later years wetting themselves every day.

12) Give up all processed meats... colonic cancer is not worth all the burgers and hot dogs in the planet.

13) If you can, do a Masters or other post grad degree.... after travelling, best place to weather out a Recession is in Uni, by the time the moneys back, you'll have up-skilled, and youâll be ready to get that better job it'd take you 10 years of hard graft to achieve working your way up the ranks.

14) Avoid all military service: no point getting killed fighting for someone elseâs Oil profits, seriously...you'll get nothing positive out of it. Not one damn thing.

15) Devote time to your family.... Still got grandparents? Visit them as often as you can, cos they'll be gone soon...same with parents. Learn about your family, its history, your people.... Talk to them, theyâve a lifetime of experiences and mistakes you can learn from and as a result be better prepared to deal with your life.

16) Turn off the TV. Its fine for the odd documentary, but most TV [especially in the USA] is rubbish, its new broadcasts partisan fluff. Read more, especially the classics, learn what the hell was going on then, and what the hell is going on now. Tune into CurrentTV.com, Euronews.com, World Press and Reuters. Read news online, and then read up on the topic, to get the back story, as most things are never as black and white as they appear.

17) Treat your body and that of others with respect. Im not religious, nor married, but sleeping around these days is just asking for trouble. Have fun, by all means, but donât lie, cheat or promise things you cant deliver just to sleep with someone. Also, always always always use protection, seriously. You wonât just be giving yourself a death sentence you know.

18) Read more âlifeâ blogs, no point making the same stupid early mistakes that other people have already made and then taken the time to talk about it so you donât have to. Think of it as advanced âdonât stick that metal knife in the toasterâ adviceâ¦.damn bitch you better not be that stupid like :D

19) Eat well.... youâve only got one body dude, and seriously, treat it badly and its going to make life so unenjoyable youâll be like every other loser wishing they had a time machine.....

20) Get spiritual...Im not saying find Jesus, Im not saying become a hare Krishna, but try and find a suitable morality system and stick to it....walk righteous and thereâs a lot less crap going to smack you back in your face.
