Is it safe to jog with a travel system stroller?

Kristina

I want to start jogging some while on my daily "walks" with my 10 week old son but am not sure if you're supposed to jog with regular strollers. I have a travel system by Graco and it seems plenty sturdy and safe for a moderate paced jog. I'd rather not spend more money to get another stroller when my other one's brand new and I use it for everything else.

Answer
It isn't recommended. They aren't made for jogging. Hit up a yard sale or craigslist for a good used jogger. Most of them will accept any car seat, and your baby is old enough to go in the stroller without the car seat if it doesn't fit. I got my jogger on sale at babies r us for $60, when she was 2, even though we already had four different size strollers. I sold all of them but an umbrella stroller and the jogger. I am pregnant again, and bought a sit n stand, but will use the jogger as the primary stroller.

Jogging stroller versus travel system â pros and cons, & what about hiking?

Woodland H

Iâm thinking of getting a jogging stroller to use on our local hiking trails here. Has anyone ever hiked on trails using a jogging stroller? Or is it just meant for dirt roads & that type of terrain? What is it like hiking? Oh also, do jogging strollers come w/ the infant car seat? Does the basket underneath have ample storage compared to a travel system stroller?

What else are the pros & cons of jogger vs travel system? TIA!

Answer
Our Jogging Stroller turns by lifting the front wheel, which is a hassle to use for strolling around town, so we've got a variety of different types of strollers. I've used the jogging stroller on trails and mostly mulit-use paths (paved and dirts paths for biking and walking), never used it for hiking back country and while it's easier to push, I would think it would be unstable for hiking purposes (if the trails are bumpy and have obstacles).

The jogging stroller really isn't great for babies that aren't sitting up yet, it doesn't come with a special infant seat and we much preferred a standard stroller when our little guy was an infant (he could recline and sleep, plus the shade bonnet was bigger to protect him from the sun.

We opted not to get a Travel System, and it's worked out great. We've never had a problem with getting the baby in and out of the carseat to the stroller, and it's less gear to carry around. Car seats are in the cars permanently and we only used our infant seat carseat in shopping carts for a few months.

All in all, the jogging stroller is not getting used much at all, I prefer using the Kolcraft Contours stroller for our little guy. I suggest you visit some stores and see the different types personally, then shop on line to maybe save some money.

Hope this helps!
Best Wishes!

Baby Travel System Help?

Rocio

Okay so we are shopping for baby items now! Yay!
My husband and I really want a convertible car seat, particularly this one "Safety 1st Complete Air⢠65 Convertible Car Seat - Great Lakes" (here is the link http://www.sears.com/safety-1st-complete-air-153-65-convertible-car-seat/p-04918152000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2)
But we are wondering if this car seat, or a similar convertible car seat would work for those new "snap n go" strollers, where its just a base, and you should just "click" the car seat in.
We want a travel system, but wish they wouldnt come with just the seat for the infant. Which is why we want the convertible seat, it lasts longer.

(this is what that snap and go stroller im talking about looks like http://www.sears.com/safety-1st-clic-it-33-infant-seat-carrier-black/p-04901811000P?prdNo=23&blockNo=23&blockType=G23 )

Please help.

Answer
The Safety First Complete Air is a great car seat... but it's not an infant snap-n-go type of seat. There's no convertible that will work with the snap-n-go strollers because they are all 'install and keep it there' seats. But really you don't need the snap-n-go Travel System. They're not worth it.

First, SIDS recommendations are that babies lay flat when they're not being carried. Even sitting in a car seat causes their oxygen level to dip and babies have died sleeping in car seats. Car seats are the safest place for them to travel in the car, but it's not for sleeping or spending long periods of time in.

Second, a snap-n-go stroller is cheapest NOW, but once the baby outgrows the infant seat (some as early as 6 months, most by a year or two) the stroller is garbage. You can't use it without the infant seat. And I'll tell you now, most babies want to sit up more from 6 months on. Compared with a normal stroller that will go to usually 50lbs and will last you for 5 years? No contest which is the better stroller. If you want something that lasts longer you do NOT want the snap-n-go, you want a normal stroller. I personally like the Baby Trend 'jogging' strollers with the big wheels for an economical choice. Try them out in stores. Small wheels tend to have problems going through sand (like at parks) and going up and over curbs/cracks/stairs are harder with small wheels.

To point it out, strollers are also rarely recalled and you can buy them used without worrying about an expiration date. So you can go on craigslist and buy a used one without it being an issue. The strollers that don't lay flat the baby can use once they can sit up while propped and their head is steady, usually from 4-6 months on. In the meantime, babies are usually very easy to carry, or get something like a Moby Wrap or Ergo and wear them (for the record, you can't put a baby seat on shopping carts, and using a stroller to go shopping is hard since it's not a cart, but put the baby in a sling/wrap/carrier and they'll fall asleep. It works WONDERFULLY.)

If you really want a snap-n-go you may be able to find one and a car seat to go with it on craigslist. Do NOT use the car seat in the car, that's not safe. However, if you're just using it for the stroller, then you should be able to do that.

Travel system strollers...?

Boston's M

I had the baby trend jogging stroller and travel system (it came with a car seat as well!) The harnesses had a major issue and it was no longer safe. I am weary to go with baby trend again and was wondering if some mommies could give me some advice on TRAVEL SYSTEM strollers they have used and recommend. We are looking for another jogger that is a travel system (Has car seat with stroller). Any advice would be great! Thank you!

Answer
My advice is to find a jogging stroller you really like with the features you want. All jogging strollers can hold a baby car seat- you do not have to buy a "system." A lot of them have a converter piece that you attach to the stroller that the seat will lock into. Plus, the infant car seats are all essentially the same. You won't find much variation there so you can pick whatever you would like too.

As for the stroller it's important to figure out what you intend for it. Are you going to run, jog, light jogging, power walking or just strolling? If you are going to run or jog it is important to get a quality jogging stroller and they are not all created equal! If you will be doing light jogging, power walking or strolling then save the extra cash you would spend on a jogging stroller and get a regular stroller (the less wheels the better.)

If you need any help, I have tested many, many strollers and owned quite a few. (I'm picky...lol.) Just message me and I will do my best.

Can you jog with a newborn in a car seat attached to a jogging stroller?

I know that babies are not supposed to be placed in joggers until they are around six months old. However, my jogging stroller is a travel system and has an carrier infant car seat that can be attached to the jogging stroller very securely. So, can I run with the baby in the car seat or is this really only supposed to be utilized if I am walking with the stroller?

Answer
Yes, you can run if the seat securely attaches to the jogger. Just make sure you have it locked in according to the directions and make sure your infant is buckled up before running (And use a head stabilizer). Also, use the little leash they give you that attached to the jogger when you run.

*We're talking about jogging, not relay sprinting, folks. Children jostle more in a car driving at 25 mph than in a secured infant carrier on a track. Light jogging after 6 weeks on an indoor track is quite safe.

I am looking for a good jogging stroller. I have a 19 month old son and I have been using the Graco travel system stroller when I go walking jogging. I go almost every morning and bring my son with me. The Graco stroller is not ideal for jogging because it has 4 wheels and I struggle and get tired very easily when I start to jog. Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer
Jogging strollers can get pretty expensive. You can get the Baby Trend Expedition jogging stroller for a decent price. Its not the best jogger out there but great for the price!

Check it out: http://www.stroller-obsession.com/baby-trend-jogging-stroller.html

Looking for a second hand one is a good idea too, I second that!

Good luck!

What is the best lightweight stroller in your opinion?

I have a travel system but it's so heavy and bulky! I don't want to spend more than 150.00. Thanks!

Answer
Personally I love my jogging stroller. It's a baby trend, we bought it for under $100, and is very easy to push, maneuverable, fits anywhere I can walk through... but when you fold it to put it in a car then it can be bulky and heavy, but at the same time it was easier than the travel system we used. I can tell you now that I don't think any other stroller than one with a bit rubber tires could have made it through the snow we waded through today. :)

My suggestion is to go to a store like Babies R Us and try their strollers out. You can always go home and find the best price later, but unless you push it around you'll never know.

What is the best brand of travel systems (full-size stroller and infant seat)?

Q. I'm looking for safety, convenience, style, etc. I know absolutely nothing about any of it so any information will be helpful. Or even if you don't like the travel systems at all, I'd love to know about other options.

Answer
I don't use one and could not imagine using one. But my husband, daughter and I are often on the go so perhaps that is why. I have an infant seat but it was given to me, I had planned to buy a convertible. I wear my baby everywhere, it is easier, lighter, no wrestling a stroller in or out of the trunk with a fussy baby, no lugging of the giant carrier, baby is happy against her mum or dad and we automatically interact with her more because she is right there. We use a Beco Butterfly II for a carrier but also love moby wraps. The beco is just abit easier and better for long trips. My husband is away alot for work so I am on my own lots of the time, this is why I could not imagine trying to wrestle with a stroller, not to mention trying to push a stroller and carry a fussy baby.

I do however have a jogging stroller for jogging and when it is raining so hard daddy's raincoat over both of us doesn't cut it. :)

what kind of stroller should I get for my baby?

I am starting a baby registry and want to put a stroller on it but don't know which stroller.
I am 5"4, so I am pretty small and don't want it to be too heavy. I do not jog, and the sidewalks here are pretty smooth. I would like it to be easily maneuverable. Is there one stroller that you love that you would recommend that is under $300? Would you recommend a travel system?

Answer
I love my travel system.. its very convenient when they are small.. mine was about $250.. it has a built in thermometer, clock, cupholders, and compartment for cell phones. The only bad part about them is the stroller is pretty bulky so it makes it difficult to put in the trunk sometimes.. especially if you have a smaller car!! mine's a coupe and it's pretty difficult

Are there any coupons for Babies R Us going on now?

N and A's

I'm looking to buy a Maclaren Volo stroller hopefully this week and was hoping to find a coupon to help the cost. I got an ad for BRU for 10% off strollers but it's only travel systems or jogging strollers. I've looked on Craigslist and Ebay.

Does anyone know of any place online(or otherwise) that have coupons available for use at this time?

Answer
I wonder if different BRU send out different coupons because I just got a coupon book on Friday which had 15% off anything in the store.

Try looking in your local PennySaver people sometimes have coupons in there for free
