is it a bad idea to register for big gifts for baby shower?

new twin m

such as, carseats, rocking chair, basically anything big a baby would need. I already have cribs but idk I just was wondering what people usually register for. Oh I am having twins by the way.
@ a red scar, Let me clear this up. I didn't say i expect to get them I just meant should I just in case. I'm not an idiot of course I will buy them if no one gets them but what could it hurt to put them on there? its not like I'm saying I will be upset if no one gets them for me I was just wondering if I should even bother.

Answer
No, you should register for the things that you need. Including the big items. Like others have said, don't expect them, but put them on there anyway. Some family members who are well off may want to get you a big item. And sometimes several people want to go in on something together and can easily split the cost of one of the big items. For my shower my MIL got us the crib we wanted, and my husband's aunt and cousins all went in together on the carseat/stroller travel system that we wanted. If they hadn't gotten us those items we would have bought them ourselves, but receiving them as gifts made it easier for us to get other things that we needed. As long as you also include a lot of lower and moderately priced items on the registry as well to give those who can't afford or don't want to get you the big items it will be fine.

When we registered, we put the crib, carseat/stroller, a bedding set, some feeding necessities, and safety supplies (outlet covers and cabinet locks). We did not register for clothes except one or two things that I thought were just irresistibly cute because I figured people would buy us lots of clothes whether we asked for them or not. We also didn't register for toiletries, but received tons of towels, shampoo, baby oil, baby powder, etc anyway (perhaps largely because we didn't know what we were having).

Answer
HOLY CRAP! 90% of this is ridiculous. Things you'll actually need:

Infant car seat
Car seat base for 2nd car
A stroller (you pick what kind you want, but you don't need four different styles!)
Some toys - you'll get a ton of these as gifts, too.
Clothes - you'll get two tons of these.
Breast pump if applicable; bottles and nipples if applicable. Unless you have a preemie, sterilizing isn't necessary.
Basic medical stuff - bulb syringe, nail clippers, thermometer, and some Tylenol.
Some burp cloths, or just use towels.
A few blankets.
Diapers.

The rest, you can do without or pick up in 2-3 years when you actually need it!
