Q. Hi, I am thinking of movinging there next June. I just wondered if it's "nice". Someone told me that it's very industrialized and polluted and they wouldn't live there.

About Jobs:: I am a CNA and was wondering how much they make an hour with 5 years experience? I don't know if you could help me out with that or not.

Any extra information would be great as well. I am planning to travel there next month to check it out. Thanks!

Answer
In my opinion, Louisville is very nice.

In 2007, Louisville was named one of the Top 10 Safest Cities in America by Crime in Metropolitan America Report, one of the "Top 10 Underrated Cities in America" by Sherman's Travel, one of America's 50 "Hottest Cities" for business expansion & relocation by Expansion Management magazine, among the 100 Best Communities for Young People, and among the Best Cities to Have a Baby by FitPregnancy magazine.

In 2008, Louisville was rated the "Most Livable City in America" (large city category) by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, ranked 7th in the "Best Towns of 2008" by Outside Magazine, was among the "25 Best Cities For Raising a Family" by Best Life Magazine, one of the "Most Improved Cities for Cycling" by Bicycling Magazine, one of the "5 Cheapest Places to Rent in America" by NBC Today show, and among the 100 Best Communities for Young People.

Since Louisville is in the Ohio River Valley, pollution can be a problem on hot summer days due to ozone. In response to this, it is required that gasoline stations sell RFG (Re-Formulated Gas) during summer months when ozone is higher and the city offers rebates to those purchasing electic lawn mowers. In 2007 the Louisville area had met federal air quality standards for ozone and was removed from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyâs (EPA) list of areas not complying with the standard.

Most industry is located in the Southwestern neighborhoods of Rubbertown and RiverPort, as well as Bluegrass Industrial Park in the Eastern suburbs. Louisville has enacted a long-term zoning plan called Cornerstone 2020 to ensure the compatibilaty of residential areas to their surroundings.

Louisville is home to several Healthcare organizations. Norton Healthcare is Louisville's 4th largest employer, Humana is Louisville's 8th largest employer, Jewish Hospital is Louisville's 9th largest employer, Baptist Healthcare is Louisville's 13th largest employer, and Kindred Healthcare is Louisville's 23rd largest employer. The world's first self-contained artificial heart was implanted in Louisville and the first hand transplant in the US was performed in Louisville. Unfortunately, I do not know what pay CNAs usually get in Louisville.

Louisville's cost of living is lower than the U.S. average. Louisville has an excellent city park system, several performing arts organizations, and low commute times with Interstate highways 64, 65, 71, 264, & 265. Louisville may not be the right fit for you, but it is definitely worth considering.
