What happens to your body when you are struck by lightning (whether directly or indirectly)?

Does your skin blister (if the current is weak by the time it hits you) or receive burns at the point of entry. What happens to your heart and other organs? What about your blood? Anything else about lighting striking a person is appreciated.
Thank you Mak _Time, that helps a lot, actually.

Answer
first a little theory:

There is no weakening in the current, it has already traveled hundreds of miles at light speed carrying 30 to 100 millions volts (have you ever been shocked by 120 volts? imagine 30 millions!) at around 100,000 amperes, and THAT'S the tricky part, I can stunt you with a stunt-gun with 300,000 volts but it wont kill you, because of the low amperage, but a lightning?? enterely different subject baby!!!

a lightning is usually less than 2 inches diameter, but its power so intense that the air around it gets heated at 54,000 ºF!! .... yes, that's five times hotter than the sun's surface, getting the picture yet?

So, as far as I know, if you are that unlucky and get caught in a thunder storm in plain terrain with no shelter and a lighting hits you, several things happen to your body, oddly enough chances are that you may survive (just 25 to 30% mortality rate) thats because human body is somewhat an electrical conductor, and current will pass your body in their way to the ground, but most of survivors sustain permanent injuries for that, as far as I know:

-cardiopulmonary arrest, heart stops, breathing too
-nervous system damage, or shutdown, with all kinds of mental sequels from amnesia to plain insanity
-coagoulation of the blood
-internal bleeding
-first or second degree burns, far worse if metal objects are present, like coins or jewelry
-eye damage, retinal bleeding, corneal injury, cataracts
-ear damage, ruptured ear drums, vertigo, dizziness
-contusions, fractures muscle and ligament tears

hope it helps

whats the best brand name for travel system strollers?

maria

im a first time mom and im due in 3 weeks, i need a stroller asap but i want to know which brand would be good graco, safety 1st. chicco, cosco, baby trend, Eddie Bauer.

Answer
Since it's not safe to leave a baby in the car seat in a stroller (it keeps them at an incline, and it's better for them in the first few months to be flat whenever possible, or being carried. It reduces their oxygen levels to have them at an incline. Car seats are for traveling in cars basically, not for putting on shopping carts, using as a feeding chair, or in a stroller, and you don't leave them asleep in them.) you need to look for a stroller that lays fully back, flat. Chicco does. I know that the Graco Quattro does as well. The Chicco brand has a very good car seat as well. I don't particularly like the cheaper Graco Snugrides, but I do like the Snugride 32. Course if you're not using the car seat with the stroller you are free to look at any stroller you want really.

We have a baby trend all-terrain stroller that I honestly love. It's not approved for younger than 2 months since it doesn't lay flat, but the 3 wheel design makes it easier to push up and down curbs, over cracks, through sand or loose dirt or grass or snow. I'd never pick another stroller to be honest, maybe one of their more expensive newer models that fold down better, but I love it. The car seat though... they're high rated for safety but when I tried it out in the store it was such a pain to try and hook the chest hook and push that into the lap belt at the same time the way they want you to. So we didn't go with that car seat.

Add: Sorry, but it is the truth even if folks don't like to hear it. Car seats are for traveling in the car. Not for sleeping or leaving your child in for any longer than possible. Until they fix that, it's taking a risk that you don't have to take simply by laying your baby flat in a stroller, carrying them, or putting them in a chest carrier. And if you're not going to put a car seat in the stroller, then there's nothing tying you to one brand over another. Pick the car seat and the stroller that's best, and who cares if they match?

Add: Just for the record, Costco, Eddie Bauer and Safety First are made from the same company, same group. And they have the highest number of recalls recently. It's not a company I trust. Chicco and Baby Trend have had far less recalls, and tested highly for safety.
